Guest Deemon Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 yeah both of you are suffering from the same problem. on the spv all the files are meant to be in the same place..IPSMAPPDATAHOME on SPVue only the plugin images should be here...the XML and the main background should be in the root of the SPvue dir. I shall get chris to try and ignore the paths within the xml so that it emulates the spv better to fix the problems look at the xml and for each JPG image that you use make a note of the path...if there is no path then put the image in the root dir .If there is a path then put the image in the :-IPSMAPPDATAHOME dir hope that helps for now....but ill get this resolved for the next release

I'm still getting an error reading file for an image (but it's an image which I tried to attatch to a shortcut, which I don't think works anyway!). All plugin images show up good, the text colour even changes!! 8) I tried with a new skin I'm working on, but got error reading image file again. I have the images in the root folder. Do I need to sdjust the xml file at all, for the emulator version?? EDIT - I just looked at the mixer skin again thru the emulator, & it RULES!!! If we can get this working to a full extent it will be brilliant! Keep up all the great work! :wink: P.S. possible improvement ideas - choosing between text/numbers representing message count, mru icons showing (somehow!?), time/date showing ... :lol: 2ND EDIT ( :oops: ) - I should just wait for 2 seconds & think before posting!! Anyhoo - I, m doing a new skin, so far called 'screen' & using essentially the same xml as the 'mixer' skin, but just with different images so far)) I removed the path in the new xml for the background image (so now the xml just read bgimage = "image1.jpg" that allows the viewer to load up the background, but it gets stuck at the missed calls image. I have copies of it in both the root folder & the IPSM/App Data/Home folder. Missed calls is the first plugin, so the viewer loads up the background image, but I can't select anything. It seems to just stop at that state. :?

It is essentially the same xml as the mixer skin - which is why I'm now stumped as to why it won't load in the viewer - but take a look!! Cheers! :wink:screen skin.zip

Guest zeta101 Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 its still not working for me, i only had one plugin image, and it was in the homescreen/IPSM/Application Data/Home folder, where the home.xml file and its bground was in the homescreen folder. To check i took out the plugin pic from the xml code but it still wont work it gives thr same error as above :)

It kind of goes like this - plugin 1 - missed calls (height 200, image 200 plugin 2 - shortcut to callface (height 0) plugin 3 - iconbar (height 20) plugin 4 - carrier (height 200, image 180) - the image shows up when the carrier plugin is selected, but clicking action will activate the shortcut plugin) plugin 5 - iconbar (height 20) - the only way I could get the iconbar to show up when scrolling down past the carrier plugin was to put it in again! plugin 6 - carrier (height 32) - same with the carrier & also this time without the image. plugin 7 - msg count (height 47) plugin 8 - calendar (height 52) plugin 9 - MRU (height 46) plugin 10 - shortcut to html links page-a la Midnight's Modaco skin (height1) In pages of 200 pixels (obviously that's without the iconbar) height they are grouped - 1, 2&3&4, 5&6&7&8&9&10. I don't know if this post makes sense to anyone except me!! I don't know if my xml makes any sense! I like to think of my xml coding as an artform of individual expression, rather than adherence to convention! :o :P I hope that makes it a bit clearer!? :wink:

I'd be willing to pay a little bit ($5-$15 maybe) for an easy WYSIWYG Homescreen editor. If you're working on one I'm sure there are a few others whole could help fund it a bit as well. After seeing so many problems caused by it, it now ignores all image file paths, so you shouldn't have files in IPSM/... any more. Only problem with this, is new the viewer is not checking those paths, which are needed on the phone so it would be possible to create a skin that works fine in the viewer, but not on the phone. Anyway... this is another partial release, so you'll need all the other files from the main post. Only the JAR and change log are changed in this version.spvue042.zip

The viewer just ignores them now and assumes all files are in the same folder.

This isn't the first time a file has turned up like this. I wonder what is causing this? Anyway, with those characters removed, the file reads ok (as in the XML format is now correct) but gets stuck trying to read the missing files. I got it from the example given at the MS help file: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....2homescreen.asp I can imagine a lot of first time skinners would have done the same as me, perhaps why its happening? why are the characters non printable though? i though they would show up as little squares if they cant be printed? is the only way to remove them is by using a hex editor? Anyway enough questions :D i just tested the file you sent and it works now :) Thanks to both of you for helping me out ;)

I just tried the same thing as Deemon using normal Notepad, and nothing you do seems to be able to clear the characters. I then fell back on good old command line DOS edit (which is still part of Windows up to at least 2000, not sure of XP though) and it showed the characters fine, and allowed me to delete them.

All my xml files are loading up ok. 8) Now all we need is - - showing date/time - something (even 1 static icon) showing for mru - & I seem to be getting slight difference from the positioning of text in the message/calendar plugins from the way it looks on the phone. Dunno if you can do anything 'bout that?? Other than that I can't think of any improvements! Great work fellas - keep it up! :wink:
