It's a phone; it's not alive - it's not a part of you and when you die, it can't go with you.

Speak for yourself, it may not be the SPV but when I go I'm having a phone put in the box with me just in case.

It's only a blimmin' phone!

It's only a blimmin' £400 phone you mean.

When you pay £400 for a phone, when you could have paid £50, you expect to get what you paid for, and cutting off Messenger is not my idea this. If you spend that amount of money on a phone that you can get updates for, you expect to get updates for it.

Did you really pay £400 directly to Orange for your phone? Sounds like you may have be slightly overcharged. I paid £0.99 for the orignal SPV (admittedly not directly to Orange).

Know it's off topic, but has Mr Orange said anything further about 2K3, after his "A business decision has yet to be made"?

Not to stir things up further but a developer acquaintance of mine had a pre-build of 2003 on his Canary just a few days ago  .. It's of now because it was as he said "buggy as hell" and he wasn't allowed to tell me where it came from but there is apparantly something going on in that area..

Would that not be a Dopod or Compal developer handset :?:

£400 is the actual value of the E100 handset, and how much it costs Orange to buy it from HTC. If you buy an E100 from Orange, the price will be subsidised depending on the value of your contract. If you add up the price you paid for the phone + your line rental, it will be over £400.

Some of these online sites are somehow cheaper. I don't know how, but if anyone does, it would be interesting (allbeit OT) to know.

Working is to big a word in this case. Crashed frequently and kept erasing the ipsm (called different in 2003, can't remember)

He's removed it and is using an E200 for testing on 2003 now.. And he still won't tell me where that damn rom came from 8)

To those who are (justifyiable) angry at Orange;

It's only a blimmin' phone!

If you get hot under the collar for something so insignificant as a piece of software, then you're as sad as those who think they're someone because they do.

It's a phone; it's not alive - it's not a part of you and when you die, it can't go with you. It shouldn't even be a small part of your life, it's a support which makes things easier but not so critical that your existence will collapse when you realise that someone else has software for it which you don't.

Sure, I think that Orange are pulling a fast one, just as Sony did with the J5 and their promises of software for it only to pull the promise once it suited them. They're big corporations who don't care about people, only sales and the representatives who keep telling you that they know something secret and you should be quiet only do so because they want to feel important.

Do you feel that you're not important because you're not in the gang? Get a grip and realise that your phone is not you, it says nothing about what you are, only what you think you are.

POINT 1 - if it's only a phone to you, then what are you doing here? It's not just a phone to alot of people, it is a VERY expensive SMARTphone, which is supposed to have a support network, & be updated.

POINT 2 - just because other big businesses s**t all over their customers, does that mean you just roll over & take it when it happens again?

It's because of attitudes like yours, that companies like orange are able to get away with so much BS!!

=D> Well said !

This a forum where members activly engage in "chat" about our smartphones and we spend alot of time and effort trying to figure out ways of making them even better. SMARTERphones you might say .Comments like yours that truely undermine our efforts. Yes its true, Orange do BS us from time to time but as "DrBlow" said we've paid alot of cash for these and deserve the respect and some sort of customer service/satisfaction from them. Is that too much to ask these days :?: We were promised an update - the phone has its faults, why shouldnt we get it :?: (and no, our existance wont collapse.) Yes you may find this sad, but if it wasnt for my smartphone then I think I'd be completely lost. Gone are the days of diary writing - its time to sync up with Outlook and get ahead. The smartphone suits my lifestyle - key word organisation and simply makes life a hell of alot easier to manage.

found this on orange if it's any help:

MSN Messenger software update

In an effort to ensure the latest security and privacy protections, Microsoft recently updated its .NET Messenger Service, requiring Orange customers who wish to access MSN Messenger through their SPV or SPV E100 to install new software on their phones. Without installing a new software patch, the MSN Messenger programme in the SPV and SPV E100 will not work.

We, together with Microsoft, are very sorry for the resulting service disruption.

Orange have taken all steps to minimise any impact to customers and are committed to delivering innovative communications capabilities. We plan to distribute the software fix for this in December 2003.

Please note that this update to the .NET Messenger Service will not affect Orange customers with an SPV E200 or Motorola MPX200.

My point wasn't that nobody should care about their phones, but that in the scheme of things, a phone doesn't really make it to the top of the list when you think of everything else that's going on in the world and in life.

Family, friends are just two things which are more important than a SMARTphone...... but that's just my opinion

Yes, but I don't expect Orange to sort all that out. It's Orange's job to make us updates, and sort out our phones. If your posting on this forum, your thinking about your phone.

Of course there are more important things than our phones, but that doesn't mean that everything else in our lives is not even worth thinking about.

I take your point, but it doesn't undermine ours.

Hopefully tomorrow, Mr Orange will bring us good news about the update.

Had a look at the E200 in my Orange shop this weekend, and it was completely different to using my SPV. Seemed much faster.

Tried out the new Motorola V500, and decided that will be my next phone.

The reason is I can get this phone free, it has a great display that is better than any SPV, it is small, feels well made, and I love it.

But I will still have my SPV if I need Email and hopefully MSN on the move.

Didn't you take a look at the MPx200? Surely it matches up to the V500 in most of the respects you mentioned?

Yes, I tried the MPX200....

Feels very poor quality plastic phone with inferior display compared to V500. Not impressed at all.

It still runs the old Smartphone 2002 like the original SPV.

V500 just feels good to hold and use.
