I have no problem disconnecting from GPRS, I can just press hang-up as usual. However, the GPRS problem I have is where my phone trys to connect, but then hangs forever with the message 'dialing' in the titlebar.

-- sorry, I should have made myself clearer to begin with.

Also, a couple of times this morning, I have got the message 'Unable to connect via GPRS. Check that you have network coverage and your settings are correct'. I have three signal bars and the 'G' logo in my icon bar. It also appears no faster for me.

i would say that my battery life is about the same too, and i thought the new radio stack in this update was supposed to solve the 'dailing' problem, or did i understand this wrong? any body any ideas about the all explorer thing, it is really getting on my tits now!! one last thing i downloaded code calculator (for unlocking nokias) it comes up saying it is an invalid windows ce program and i can't install, have i downloaded the wrong one??

I have also had the dialling problem since the update, I never had it before! :?

If it got stuck on dialling or seemed to be taking a while before I just used to hang up and try again and the second time it would connect almost straightaway. So it was never really a problem with me. This doesn't work anymore though, either it won't disconnect or it just does the same thing again! I either have to put it in Aeroplane mode or if that doesn't work then power off.

Still it does seem more reliable when connected, it seems to actually stay connected so you don't have to wait for it to dial again.

About the quick restart utility, it has always been a bit dodgey, even before this update. It worked fine for me most of the time, but once it crashed my phone. If it has never happened to you before count yourself lucky. I'm sure I've read about others who had the same problem in the past. Best not use it at all.

How do you do this quick restart? I think that I have done it before but don't know how I did it. Now reading these posts has got me worried that if I accidentally do it again it could reset itself

'quick restart' is a program you have to have installed, then action the shortcut, if you have not installed this then it won't be the problem you have encountered i would say. it was a useful program especially with the buggier software versions, it was just like the restart option on your pc.

Is it nescessary to install the speed ups from midnight after the update? At first I didnt think so, but if the phone gets even faster it would be really nice.... and do they work at all?

@LarsDK

I installed both SpeedMenus and SpeedyBoost and found faster performance with ROM 1.6 compared to the previous build.

I would recommend it for sure.

The handset i have 1.61 on does forget T9 as before

I have not had any GPRS issues with 1.6 or 1.61, even in low signal areas.

I have also done the update OK using Win98SE, even though the orange site says no.

So far....so good

[-X That's your problem, using a download agent. Most download agents download the file in several parts and then re-merge them to one file at the end, resulting in corruption of some file types. Download without the manager and all will be fine

UKJOCK I have exactly the same problem. Error 102 Image File Checksum Error. Tried switching off, batteries out, switch on retry the update etc etc but it just isn't working.

Even dug out my old 1.35.06 upgrade and tried that - the old update I know was previously working is also giving the same checksum error! It can't be a download manager as I haven't used one, and the file unpacks without problem.

Only thing I did was download the Smartphone ROM patcher linked from coolsmartphone via MSMobiles.com (http://msmobiles.com/news.php/1785.html) Did you use this as well UKJock?

Assuming this is the problem anyone else reading this take care and try other app unlocking methods first as I think the ROM patch may well be flawed..

Now my phone is stuck on three colour canary screen and I cant do anything else. Orange is swapping the phone tomorrow (their support didn't have a clue). Would like a solution though as what if this happens again on my replacement..?

Anyone any ideas?

Using the ROM patcher has these kinds of risks...

At least you got a warning here rather than it cabbaging your phone!

I would advise using the official OTA method if you can, rather than the patcher...

I used the rom patcher no problem, guess I was lucky.

Hmm - I am encountering the Error 101:Connection Error problem - tried hard reset per 156-man's instructions, but to no avail - eight resets later I have a pretty christmas tree light but not much of a phone left.

A QUESTION>

Does the 1.6 UK UPDATE has the italian language because i am an italian spv user????

Or does the 1.6 French update has it????Thanks in advantage???

...where is the swiss updsate????

Hi, I have installed the French update on my Swiss SPV and can confirm that it contains the Italien language, as well as Spanish, US English and French, obviously.

Orange Switzerland's hotline told me the Swiss update should be made available on the web on the night of December 12th.

My experience so far is that the update works very well and I have no bugs to report except a typo in the sounds configuration menu.

Best Regards,

Stephen

Oh woe is me: Orange cannot correct my problem. I am a week out of contract, which means that they cannot replace my phone under the one year warranty. I bought my phone through C P Warehouse and do not have Orange Care. They want to charge me £300 for a new phone, or £100 for new original SPV +12 month contract, or £0 and 12 month contract for MPx200.

But I wanted to wait until early next year for the MPx220 - I don't want a 12 month contract!

Buy a crap handset on PAYG for £40 and shove your contract chip in it until February if the MPx220 means so much to you.

But the kind 156 people have now offered to replace my phone for free...

Thank you Orange.

Thank you for the advice - but I am not sure I could have coped with a £40 handset for 6 months. Nor should I have to buy another handset if Orange's update breaks mine!

Yeah, didn't notice that it was the Update thing that was the problem! Anyway, February is flying around as a possible release date for MPx220, which isn't that far away. Will almost certainly be my next phone.

Same here, if they manage to increase the RF reception and fix the caller ID bug. The MPx200 was unusable at my house/work (no signal), wheras the SPV e100 gets 2 out of 4 bars in both places.

thanks!!!!!!! So can i upgrade my 1.50 swiss rom spv to 1.6 french rom???And to 1.6 uk rom??? Thanks in advantage.

Yes, upgrading to another operator's ROM is easy to do, but you will also inherit that operator's settings and tunings.

So, if you want to go this route, I would suggest that you write down the essential settings of your Swiss 1.50 ROM before upgrading. In particular, get the voicemail, WAP and GPRS settings...

Now, to upgrade (side-grade?), all you need to do is to boot your phone into the "Canary screen" and run the update on your PC once you see the multicolored screen.

Getting into the "Canary screen" can be done the following way: power off, wait 30 seconds, power on while holding the 'voice note' button, press any key when asked. ("any key" means any key, except for the joystick).

Or you can wait for the Swiss update tomorrow evening.

It looks to me as though orange have updated the update software in the last hour or two - I was unable to get my phone to accept update via any means earlier, instead getting a 102 checksum error. Orange are due to replace my phone tomorrow. This update version downloaded at work earlier, failed, and in Pauls words my phone was cabbaged.

On returning home this evening I downloaded update again 'just in case' and the software update has changed subtly - (there is a little bit of advice now on how to backup your data before perfroming the update that I didnt notice ealier today). This new version appears to be updating my phone without trouble - I tentative 'phew' there then!

I have also had problems with the update and read on the site that

What shall I do if my phone does not switch on or the screen freezes?

Remove the battery for 30 seconds and replace. Power on the handset. If the handset only powers up to a screen which displays three colours, perform the following steps:

1. Remove the battery for 30 seconds again and replace.

2. Place your SPV back into the cradle

3. The SPV should boot up and display three colours.

4. Rerun the update program.

This has not worked. Does this mean i have an expensive door stopper if i do not have orange care??
