i am sure the ipsm update will come, eventually, and be very useful anyway, in fact it is not even late, assimung it might be released over the weekend.

The fact of the matter is, if your a professional organisation, you dont give release dates that you;

1. Dont meet.

2. Cant meet.

3. Dont intend to meet.

In my opinion Orange fit into all 3 of the above when saying that the backup tool for the update will be available week commencing 15th December.

They failed to meet the set release date, at least offer an explanation as to why.

Its unacceptable from a corporate company to be honest, and portrays an image of a shabby run organisation (funny that, eh :))

before you jag Orange too badly, be happy you *DON'T* own a Nokia. When the 6800 (the phone with the full qwerty keyboard) came out they promised it would support Blackberry and have an Email app. My entire IT staff bought it so we could carry only one device. The email app doesn't send emails and it errors out when it tries to receive. The OS locks up constantly and you have to power it off and on to clear it. It's the worst phone I've ever owned (and most expensive so far).

Almost a year later and they have dropped all support of the 6800. They don't even promise an update and don't deliver. They simply said that there will be no FW updates for the phone and it will not support RIM. Since the day it was released, there has never been a single FW update yet they released a brand new version of it (the 6810) where they corrected everything and it's on the SAME HARDWARE!

So how do you like that?

I'm waiting like you can't possibly believe for the MPx220 to come out so I can drop Nokia for ever and never look back. That kind of support on that type of phone (it wasn't some cheap freebie) tells me a lot about the company.

Thank God for Microsoft (I never thought I'd say that). They gave us XP and the Smartphone.

I like some Nokia phones, dont go for their gadjet type phones like that one, go for the phones they aim at their business clients, such as the phone I used to have 8890, am so sorry I got rid of it for an SPV. It was a very basic phone but rocked muchly. Getting a 6310i to replace the SPV, back to whats good, and works well. These time consuming pieces of sh1t just arent for me :)

I bet the orange exec's are reading this and chuckling and being rather content with their excessive xmas bonus's :)

not really, its as likely to happen as a huge pile of money falling out of the sky and landing on my desk. Oh and as likely as Paul giving me moderator status.

errr, dont mean to be funny or nothin, but why are several of you complaining about the lack of backup tool when you have ALREADY UPDATED!!!!!

i think people just like to whinge :)

oh and as for the upgrade tool, i have no idea when it will be out (oh and yes, the upgrade was released early cos of people complaining on here, originally they were'nt gonna release the upgrade until the backup tool was complete), but i really dont see the problem with upgrading without the backup tool to be honest. So you lose a few sms's and have to install your apps again, big deal, no real chore.

My recommendation: sync your contacts and mail etc., make a note of any important sms's, upgrade the phone, sync your contacts back and reinstall your applications :D

em... I think people are complaining becuase this is yet another in a long line of broken promises from Orange. Just because they have updates, doesn't detract from the fact that we were promised a back up tool, & not a single comment from Mr. O or anybody as to why.

People aren't "whinging". They are using this forum as it should be used - to voice concerns with issues regarding their smartphones.

like i said though, some of the people have already updated, they have no need for the backup tool, and so are just complaining for the sake of it. Those who are waiting for the tool they have the right to complain, i'm not arguing about that.

We are complaining because on their website it says (parahprased) "Here is the new update but we strongly urge you not to install it until we release the backup tool in a weeks time". They quote a date for the back up tool, which thus elapses.

No updated statement on their website. No appology or explanation for the delay.

I want to upgrade, but am concerned about what I might loose and then have to re-install. THere are no other instructions on the orange site as to what you can do in the event of loosing everything in an install.

I know there are "experts" here who can offer advise and help me run a smooth install without loosing everything, but badword it I pay Orange a lot of money every month for a buggy piece of hardware - I expect these bugs to be fixed at some point, and if I need to upgrade my phone to impliment these bug fixes I expect Orange to ensure that I don't loose everying on my phone in the process.

So I don't think anyone here is being unreasonable about their grumbles.

PS We haven't seen any sign of Mr Orange on these boards have we? The first person to see him browsing should raise this subject.

I'm with Midnight although I only upgraded after a Dougie Lampkin-related hard reset. I would have waited otherwise.

Although it's a right pain, the clean-up has got to be good for the phone

I upgraded 5 minutes after the update was released, so the issue of the backup tool is a mute point for me.

But for chrissakes, if Orange is going to put a date (or date range) on their website, they should at least have the decency to update their website when they miss the posted date(s) and let people know what is happening.

If they haven't learnt from the MSN patch/1.6 update furoar, then they should STOP POSTING DATES. Purely from an internal point of view, it makes them look shoddy and amateurish.

Twopence worth over.
