Guest ddieter Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Has anyone with the problem complained to Orange yet? Was there any resolution to it? ie replacement phone. Don't have access to my PC for few days but will try Hard Reset to see if it solves it. Not keeping my hopes up though. :) Any more people experiencing this problem? It would be nice to gauge how widespread it is. How about you Paul? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest midnight Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 are all you guys who have the sound using the standard headphones? wondering if its a headphone hardware problem rather than a C500 problem
Guest ddieter Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Well. I've complained to Orange about the problem, and they've passed it on to 'Tech Support' as it hasn't been logged with them before. Apparently it can take up to a week for them to get back to you. I urge anyone who also has this problem to log it with Orange as well so that they take it seriously and find a resolution. Obviously from this thread it appears to be device specific, which at least gives me hope. Now, if I can only get them to take back my obviously dodgey device. :) Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest fenderbomb Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Sorry, I know that its not much help but no matter how hard I try I cannot hear the "tss". I was almost willing myself to hear it but nothing, nada etc. Thats with the standard headphones and some mellow tunes. Tried all MP volumes and also altering headphone volumes.
Guest joelb69 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Just played the Eric Prydz, Call On Me video using pocket TV through the speaker phone and its on the loudspeaker aswel!!! less noticable because of the slightly hissy nature of the speaker but its definatly there. so that rules out head phones aswell. If its coming out the external speaker, can that rule out either hardware or software specific? another thought crossed my mind earlier perhaps no one can hear it at first (including myself) because its not there at first!!!???? perhaps something gets corrupted when a certain application/game/file is installed/downloaded. im thinking maybe along the lines of wav ring tones/txt tones? voice tags? im going to the orange shop tomorrow to see if i can hear the same thing on a new phone using my sd card. i will keep you posted!!!
Guest ddieter Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Just Hard Reset my C500 with a glimmer of hope that it might clear up the 'TSS' bug....unfortunately it is still very much there! :) I even tried copy songs directly on the Mini SD using a Mini SD to SD adaptor and an SD cruser to see if Activsync had something to do with it...but nope....still there!!!! :x I'm still waiting to hear the final word from Orange support. Please, if you suffer from this problem, please complain to Orange so that they will take it seriously. From this thread it sounds like it could very well be a bad 'batch' of phones if everyone doesn't suffer from this problem.
Guest PinkPig Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 Any more news on this issue? I'm thinking about buying a C500, but a bit concerned since MP3 playback would be something I used a lot.....
Guest joelb69 Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 ive told orange diagnostics im waiting on there reply.
Guest Jarvis Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Unable to hear any "Tss" noise on my C500. I also created a MP3 which contains 60 seconds of silence, and played it on the phone. No "Tss" sound heard - however, this may only prove that the problem is decompressing more complicated MP3 files. Could someone who HAS the problem try this silent mp3 file? And post their results here? File can be downloaded from : http://www.mungler.com/gash/60SecsOfStereoSilence.mp3
Guest dynamo Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I've started using beta player and i can definitely hear the tss noise every so often in the quiet parts :) I guess that because of the music i listen to i don't hear it during mp3 playback.. Because we're seeing the problem with different software it must be an OS/hardware fault
Guest Dr Who Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Not a problem that everyone has though. Even stranger.
Guest ddieter Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I am not able to download mp3s through company firewall. However I did also create a silent mp3 at 128Kbps 44100 Hz using a program called Goldwave. I can confirm that I hear no 'tss' playing my 30sec silent file. But yet again, when I play any other of my larger MP3s with sound...once again I can hear the 'tss'. What does this mean?!? :?
Guest duncan888 Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 can this problem be fixed by using a different set of headphones (using a 3.5 jack adaptor). I get the same problem but only when i use the headphones, i dont hear it when I use the speakerphone.
Guest PDAHazzard Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 Hello all, As it seems that people hear a tss-sound every 10-14 seconds, I think that it is interference with transmitting and receiving GSM polling information. The phone is communicating every 10-15 seconds to let the network know if and where it resides within the network. The fact that some people have it and some not can be explained by either deafness of certain lads  , or and that is more likely: the quality of connection to the gsm-network. the weaker, the more energy is needed to get information to the network, and that might result in more (hearable) interference, when listening. To have this straigtend out, could you guys please tell wether you have a good or bad strength of signal, in relation to the tss-sound? Anyone (dis)agree? Regards,
Guest duncan888 Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 When i first had my C500 there was no noise, but after a few days I noticed the tis noise every 10-15 sec. I tried it again last night and the noise had gone. Not really sure why its happening but I have full signal strenght where I live and where I've tested it.
Guest UnLoCkSmItH Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Dont look for the dam problem... Argghhh. I didnt notice it before and after reading this post its killing me. I cant hear it with the music but whilst watching programs using beta player its IRRITATING BADLY!!! AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
Guest joelb69 Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 I Thought it could be somthing to do with that ^_^ , so i tried it in "flight mode" and unfortunatly its still there :D . The noise seems to change slightly in relation to the tone of the music wich made me think it might be somthing to do with active sync and copying the file over :? Not the case because the sound is still there in the default media demo :x more importantly though, the sound isnt allways in the demo AND when it is there it changes position. SOOO back to the phones operating system! can anyone think of somthing the phone is doing at these intervals other than signal comms?Hello all, As it seems that people hear a tss-sound every 10-14 seconds, I think that it is interference with transmitting and receiving GSM polling information. Guest tedblight Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 today it has just started happening to me!!!! I've been using my C500 trouble free since its launch. Mp3s and music videos have been playing fine. Lastnight, i reformated my miniSD card 3times(256meg) and today i've started getting the 'tss' noise. Any ideas on what to do to solive this, i use mp3's a lot and it is anoyying.
Guest tmaniac Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 no tss here....tested it with a 10 minute long mp3.......i have a little question though....the sound of the mp3 is very...erm...well..how to say this in english...without bass ^_^...it sounds like the treble is set very high and the bass very low.any1 knows how to crank that up a little? (and btw...how the hell can i set a skin for the wmp? :D)

Hi, I have the same problem. To test out your theory, you could put the phone in "plane" mode? I don't have time to try it right now. Cheers, Iain
Guest iainp999 Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 sorry, i meant "flight mode". just got 5 mins free to test and it didn't work :-(
Guest tmaniac Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 could have something to do with the GPRS function? maybe when u have GPRS enabled u hear the tss sound.....i only enable GPRS when i use Iexplorer.....
Guest UnLoCkSmItH Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Its there i dont think anythin will fix it besides an update It doesnt show on the silent mp3 but its killin me whilst watchin programs in beta player
Guest omarjames Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 That file that Jarvis posted (60secs of silence) played FINE on my phone, but, another mp3 file (that has music) doesn't play fine. I tried both these files on Windows Media Player and BetaPlayer. When I went to Media Info (on BetaPlayer; File | Media Info), I could see the following (the settings were the same for both files; the silent file and my music file): Audio Stream: 0055 Codec: LibMad MPEG Audio Sample Rate: 44100 Hz Channels: 2 Data Bit Rate: 128 kbit/s The above, I presume, means that both files have been encoded the SAME way. Seeing as the 60secs of silence file from Jarvis plays without any problem implies that this problem is a software problem, not a hardware problem. If this is the case, then anyone who listens to an mp3 file or a movie file, say avi, SHOULD hear this issue - when listening via headphones. The problem is evident when using the speakerphone, but it is so difficult to hear that it becomes irrelevant (I only heard it once, and had to concentrate on listening to it). Btw, the problem through the headphone is more evident the louder you play the file. The problem is Orange (and I have reported this problem with them) do not even acknowledge the problem yet, so waiting for a fix could be a lengthy process. For me, this problem verges on being a deal breaker
