Guest iainp999 Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 ok, can someone post a link or email address so that we can get in touch with the relevant people at orange? cheers
Guest Exploited Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 no tss here....tested it with a 10 minute long mp3.......i have a little question though....the sound of the mp3 is very...erm...well..how to say this in english...without bass :D...it sounds like the treble is set very high and the bass very low.any1 knows how to crank that up a little? So far it seems you will start noticing the 'tsss' very soon now. ^_^ If you want to get sound-improvement, though, you might want to consider buying an adapter so you can connect any 3,5mm headset. The standard headset is absolutely unsuited for listening to music.
Guest omarjames Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Just had a call from Orange - 2 1/2 days have now passed and they called to say that there is still no feedback from their Tech Dept regarding the problem. It only takes a couple of minutes to either hear/not hear the problem... Anyway, more concerning is that I said I will cancel my contract within the 14 days and get a new phone, in the hope it doesn't have this problem. Orange shop said fine, however, when I asked whether this problem would still be logged, even though I've cancelled my contract, they said no - the problem will be deleted. So, you have 100 customers, all with this problem. All log the problem with Orange. Then 80 customers return their phones under the 14 day money back policy. This will then show that only 20 customers have complained about this issue, which is incorrect - it was 100. The ultimate consequence of this is Orange do nothing about the problem because not enough people have registered the complaint - their books will only show 20, which is incorrect. I still find Orange good, but see this as a real shortcoming... Bloody ridiculous if you ask me.
Guest Microsoft Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 This is really scary! (This is maybe why C500 is so cheap) A question pooped up in my head: Do the C500 have a kind of "sound card" who can be taken of easy. I mean if it got like a sockel like the SD-Slots had in SPV, E100, E200?! [sorry for bad english]
Guest tmaniac Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 So far it seems you will start noticing the 'tsss' very soon now. ^_^ If you want to get sound-improvement, though, you might want to consider buying an adapter so you can connect any 3,5mm headset. The standard headset is absolutely unsuited for listening to music. using a different headphones does not work...tried that....and again...still no tss sound....however...it bugs the hell outta me that the sound is not really good...to much treble :P
Guest Dr Who Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 I don't use the MP3 player a lot for the same reason - the sound is pretty horrible, especially on anything with a lot of attack.
Guest outofthisworld Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Well I am using my SPV C500 which I bought from Orange (France) after two weeks of usage today is the first time I noticed this tsss sound, quite annoying. Being in France or other parts of Europe, the tsss is here. So it must hardware or software related. Hope it is not hardware! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest tedblight Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 long shot - but i only notices the tss sound when i transferred via a memory card reader. In the past I've done it via cable - i'm going back to cable, slower speed but maybe thats the solution
Guest outofthisworld Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004  nope! If you transfer by a card reader or by USB cable it is the same. The Tss is there. Unfortunately, I will put the C500 in the box until the tss issue is solved. Going back to my SPV e100. ^_^
Guest omarjames Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Well, Tech support never got back to me (a whole week has passed) and my 14days were almost up, so I sent the phone back. Have now ordered another three from the online Orange Shop (UK), so will check those. The online Orange Shop had run out, so a new batch is coming (now in stock). My three phones will be sent from this batch. It'll be interesting to see if the problem is still evident. I would say to ALL concerned who have this problem; send the phone BACK. I HAVE heard an Orange phone WITHOUT this tss problem, using identical songs. It appears that some phones have the problem, some don't. As to what the problem is? I haven't a clue... All I do know is I will continue to return the Orange phones under their 14 money back guarantee until I get one that doesn't have this problem and that I'M HAPPY WITH. Cheers.
Guest ddieter Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Finally got in touch with Orange Support re the 'tss' problem. They claim that the my music file size is likely too large for the phone to properly process! Not bloody likely.....using WMA at 96kbps and 44kHz....they seem to work just fine on my original SPV. This definitely isn't over....waiting to hear back from them again.

TIP: Go to oranges shops and test the phones.. Then you buy. I did that with my Qtek7070 ^_^ (Use the batteri that is in the "demo phone" in your phone while you are testing)
Guest outofthisworld Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Man come on! Now replacing the phone will not solve the problem here. When I first got my SPV C500 and I read this thread there was not the TSSS sound I listened carrefuly though. Then a week passed by, and one day there it was the TSSS sound.
Guest ddieter Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Well...just finished installing the ROM upgrade with the hope that it had a fix for the 'TSS' problem. :D AND I AM HAPPY TO REPORT THAT IT DEFINITELY FIXED THE PROBLEM! ^_^ Music files are now 'Tss' free! And the best part is......argh...I can't go on with the lie anymore...the damn 'Tss' is still there!

And the best part is......argh...I can't go on with the lie anymore...the damn 'Tss' is still there! You annoying ***. ^_^ Has anyone been able to test - is this issue present on all C500s, or is it just some? Does it appear after a while - or is it just that you notice it after a while..... this is putting me off getting one a bit......
Guest outofthisworld Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Very funny ddieter,Very funny! Cool, people are maybe buying defective phones here, and you joke. I just ordered another C500 to see if I have the tss. If i do, then I guess it is all of them. I will keep you posted
Guest omarjames Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 Right, I'm totally bored with this issue now, so this will be my last post on it. I've now tried 14 phones (from the Orange online store, as well as friend's phones, and a couple in an Orange high street store). The "tss" noise was there, in *ALL* of them, when played back via the headphones, HOWEVER, on MP3 playback, it was HARDLY noticeable on some, and slightly more prominent on others - I must say that some tracks do highlight the problem more than others. I now have a SPV C500 where it's HARDLY noticeable for my type of music and I'm happy. However, *ALL* phones exhibited the problem when playing *MOVIES* via the headphones, and *ALL* to the *SAME* noise level. Why, I don't know, but having tried 14 different phones in my OWN hands (and not taking other people's word saying that their phones are fine/not fine, etc), I have to conclude that the there is a problem with the phone in this respect (I find it hard to believe that the 14 phones I tried were *ALL* faulty, especially as they were purchased via different means and were part of different phone batches) - btw, they were all UK phones, on Orange, though I doubt this has anything to do with the problem. The problem regarding the "tss" noise is only noticeable, for me at least, when listening to a movie through the headphones - when I listen to a movie via the speakerphone, I have no problems with it. So for me, this is good enough, BUT, I do wish the problem was not there - period. Nothing is perfect though, and considering the numerous plus points of the SPV C500, I can live with this negative one. The ROM update makes no difference to the problem, as per ddieter's comments, once he got that *evil* joke part out of the way! Cheers, James. P.S. I transferred the files to the phone via different means (e.g. USB cable, SD card reader, etc), tested the files on other medium's (e.g. PC, MP3 player, etc), and copied the files on the storage card, back off, back on, to see if it was getting corrupted, and also tried the files on the phones storage bit, as opposed to the storage card...
Guest outofthisworld Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 My dear james, Thank you for your detailed report. I just got another brand new C500 i returned the former one. Orange France accepted to give me a new one in exchange for the other. As you stated the TSSS was there, I tested it and there it was clear crystal TSSS glitch! I understand that you are bored with this thread. However I will continue my research until I find the reason. hoping it is not the sound board. At the end I would like to find who the idiots are: 1.HTC 2.ORANGE 3.US (THE USERS)
Guest fenderbomb Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 Crap! After posting that I seem unaffected by this, it appears that movies suffer from it in Betaplayer 0.4. And boy can you hear it. That proves Omars point that all movies are affected. Still no sound of it in Media Player though. I will add my voice to the masses and call Orange. It's all we can do......
Guest Microsoft Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 Hey! I tested a Qtek8010 yesterday in a shop. I came in a folder who had MMS-photos and music. Or it had 1 music. It didnt played in WMP and it was not a movie, just a 2 min long music. I didnt found any "tsss". But i guess i didnt lissent so carefull?! Or do not Qtek 8010 have the same problems as C500?
Guest outofthisworld Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 It is amazing how end users in France and in other parts of the world did not notice this defect / bug, no one talks about it. Also while the C500 has some positive points, i believe that most of us, would be happy to use it to listen to music with a good quality. Having checked forums in France, Denmark, Holland no one talks about this. Are we in the UK and France victims of a defective shipment of HTCs first SPVC500? Orange still is ignoring this fact...
Guest red1mp Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 Does anybody know if there are different revs of the C500 as touch wood in the 2 weeks I have owned the phone I don't seem to have the tsss problem, dust behind the screen or all the reported bugs ^_^ For some reason I've noticed the TSSS on movies and now I've listened harder to MP3's it's there. I think we should somehow shame ORANGE/ SPV into sorting this out. This phone was released with to many bugs in the software I don't care what anybody says. If has an MP3 player function then it should work properly, If it plays movies it should play them properly etc, etc. The longer I have this phone the more faults I find.
Guest red1mp Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 You annoying ***. ^_^ Has anyone been able to test - is this issue present on all C500s, or is it just some? Does it appear after a while - or is it just that you notice it after a while..... this is putting me off getting one a bit...... Mine was fine to start with then today I noticed the tsss while playing about with movie ripping now it's there when I play MP3' aswell. I don't have any interest in comments trying to protect the phone and SPV this is crap the phone is full of bugs and the longer I have it the more bugs/faults I find. We should find a way to shame Orange/SPV into sorting this out, they sold us a phone which in my opinion wasn't fit for release.
Guest martin Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 Betaplayer has been the most used program for my C500 and I have used it to play DivX, MPEG, WMV and also MP3's and OGG's at different rates. I've converted from DVD's, CD's and even quicktime MOV files. And I have NEVER heared any 'Tss' :? Maybe someone could post up a small audio clip where they can clearly hear the 'Tss' and then others can try it their phones.

Maybe someone could post up a small audio clip where they can clearly hear the 'Tss' and then others can try it their phones. I can only hear the tsss when listening to movies or MP3's via headphones. When I listen to the same movies/MP3's via the phone speaker or via my Belkin FM transmitter to an FM radio or my Sony mini speakers I can't hear it. This suggests that frequency range may have an effect as to whether it can be heard or not, I suspect that headphones have a wider frequency range than the other items. Still doesn't explain why the C500 was released with faults like this evident, most people I know bought it because of the Windows OS and MP3/Movie playing facility yet all three are problematic, all SPV/Orange have to do is visit this site to see what problems we are all having and then perhaps they will do the honerable thing and sort them out with software updates.
