Guest prusling Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 I'd go for it like a shot - on any network.
Guest metalgearal Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 100mb for £10 is a great price, but I wouldn't pay for it, but only because I don't use GPRS that much. If lower packages were also offered, such as 50mb for £5-6 and 25mb for £2-3, then I certainly would.
Guest pdtp Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 I'm Here in the USA and i pay $20 (£10) a month on cingular for unlimited GPRS 1500 text messages & 100 MMS's. there have been a couple of occasions where i have gone well over 100mb with just my phone (no surfing on my pc through GPRS). Streaming some DI Radio through my phone can rack up the mb real quick. I would hate to be limted to just 100mb. i thought i would share my 2 cents.
Guest pobus Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 what would be the point? with a smartphone you can get everything online and just install/transfer over to your phone! I barely use 1MB per month no matter how much I use it cos WAP is pretty crap. Even if you use Messenger all the time it takes up hardly any MBs
Guest freeman9852 Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005  if it works on the nokia 9210i and the later one then im up for it
Guest Wlodek Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 QUOTE(Paul [MVP] @ Feb 10 2005, 12:04 It would be [:lol:REALLY useful if as many people filled it in as possible. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ... and perhaps said what network they are on? Orange here and no intention to change. W.
Guest tonyneat Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 It sounds great but I'm one of those rare few still on Everday 50 ( if you've got a company phone at your disposal during the day it's a real bargain when you're working away ) and I'm sure Orange would love me to give that up. I use mine more than I should according to my GPRS package so it sounds like a bargain to me. Gadget Boy
Guest Hees Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 If a UK network came up with... Voted no, i'm not on a UK network.
Guest fulani Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Voted no, i'm not on a UK network. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well then it doesn't apply to, and you shouldn't have voted at all...
Guest colintoy Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 if i were living in the UK then i'd definitely try it out
Guest tmaniak Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 sorry , I'm living in spain, and my network is retevisión mobile (Amena)
Guest mdw_cubed Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 I have the Orange 3MB for £4.00 tariff and only go over it during the football season (all those half time reports  ) and when away from home (email etc). There have been several members mention a stepped tariff, ie. 25Mb for £25.00, 50Mb for £50.00, 100Mb for £10.00 Why not have just a straight, cheap, PAYG GPRS tariff of 10Mb for GBP 1.00? You still get your 10MB for £10.00. :( Orange (or whoever offer the cheap GPRS tariff) could enforce a lower limit of a minimum bundle of 30MB for £3.00 and then 10Mb for £10.00 after that. I definitely go for that package no problem. I could never use 100Mb in a month, being used to broadband, I'm often irritated at just how slow the connection can be.
Guest xandercom Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 I am on O2 prepay, and although free GPRS is limited to 1mb, i dont find there is any limit. I can download as much content as I wish! I do not find current GPRS fast enough to justify paying for it at all. Its too slow and feels like going from broadband to dialup. I believe my o2 package is just about the best around. I use home 100 to enable 100 free mins to anyone, any time. It seems to work up to 5 miles around my home post code.
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 (edited) Well GPRS is like going from broadband to dial-up, but the point is that it gives you things Broadband can't I think some people are being unrealistic. This isn't an offer to "fix everything that's wrong with mobile telecomms for £10/month" Edited February 12, 2005 by chucky.egg
Guest TheNerd Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Hmmm? I hardly use my GPRS connection at the moment. I find it is just a gimmick. I'm probably put off by the cost of using it. It's like the old dial up connections used to be before broadband arrived: I always limited my time and use on the internet, never downloading massive files and never being on too long. I've not yet found a use for GPRS that I couldn't get elsewhere. Once I've found THE killer app for it then maybe it would be worth it. I am not likely to use my smartphone (tiny screen, useless keyboard input) to browse the web or even use this website forum! Can somebody suggest a really good use for my GPRS connection? GPRS will not replace my broadband internet connection at current speeds. Once comparible speeds arrive, then it would need to provide uncapped/unlimited use for an even better price. I think this is unlikely to happen. The only real use I get out of it is email on the move. I don't find this the killer app I'm looking for though as I can (usually) always find an internet cafe or something. I suppose the cost comparisson could change my mind on that. Has anybody done the sums? I'm obviously missing something here. I can't quite see why someone would definitely go for it. Just what do you use the connection for? I feel like some kind of lamer who has overlooked a real opportunity for something.
Guest Colonel Trouble Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Id be very interested and probably would swap network for it IF it was available on pay as you go the way orange do the "orange extras" , for those of us without credit cards  !
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Hmmm? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I wasn't digging at anyone in particular, just making a general comment I hardly use my GPRS connection at the moment. I find it is just a gimmick. I'm probably put off by the cost of using it.That's an argument for low-price bundles like this I always limited my time and use on the internet, never downloading massive files and never being on too long. Yep, I agree, but again, that's an argument for this sort of deal GPRS will not replace my broadband internet connection at current speeds.GPRS isn't supposed to replace your broadband connection. It's supposed to replace your CSD connection from your phone (or, at a push) a dial-up modem connection over fixed line) The only real use I get out of it is email on the move. I don't find this the killer app I'm looking for though as I can (usually) always find an internet cafe or something. How much do you spend in Internet Cafes then? But fair enough, maybe you're not a big user of "live" services I'm obviously missing something here. I can't quite see why someone would definitely go for it. Just what do you use the connection for? I feel like some kind of lamer who has overlooked a real opportunity for something. You're not lame, its just different people needing/wanting different things. For me easy, "everywhere" access to my emails, and "nice to have" stuff like RSS feeds are worth the small-ish cost of my 10Mb bundle. But I find I'm going over that bundle more often now, so 100Mb for £10 is a no-brainer. It still remains to be seen what sort of deal this is though. I'm still in contract, and got a pretty good tariff, so for me it's not a definite thing
Guest MrNibbles Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Woah yeah i would totaly go for that! im guessing that the network in question is Orange (o2 / voda have yet to roll out many smartphones - so wouldnt be posted here otherwise ) wich i am already on! but totaly, i can sometimes get through 20-40mb over gprs per month! and that costs me WAY over 10 squids. please! please please pleaseeee!! i will kiss you!
Guest mavisdavis Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Ive voted for any network. I'd jump ship asap if another network offered it. also alot depnds on what phone I can blag out of the other network as well.
Guest krelvinaz Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 At the current conversion rate, that would be about $19 US I pay $24.99 now for unlimited. Not much of a savings. I doubt your plan would be good in the States anyway though.
Guest PayableOnDeath Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 100mb of gprs for 10pounds for me please  Hope its on orange thou other wise I would have to wait to nov to change over
Guest cyrilthefish Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 I swap to a tarriff like that as soon as they'd let me :( just imagine: even internet radio streaming becomes viable with those data amounts
Guest tetsuoakira Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 well at the moment i use the free gprs proxy through o2 payasyougo, but it would be good to see a high speed service that supported cookies - for example - some of the smartphones support 384kbps modem conection speeds - introduce a network to support this speed and i would be very happy.
Guest Billy Marrafyass Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I would sign + switch networks
