STOPPED - New graphic Interface for OMNIA

This Shell looks very pretty, the problem I think many ppl will have is just that, its a shell! Merely skinning over all WM functionality, Start Menu, SoftKeys etc will only slow the device down and make the simplest of tasks/notifications challenging. Please don't get me wrong if/when you succeed no doubting it will be awesome, I just personally think there needs more integration rather than a skinning over. M2D/TF3D has and is doing quite well because of their excellent stability and integration, just look at the development thread in XDA Dev for proof of that the numbers speak for themselves. If you truely want a new UI integrate it into OS expose the Start Menu/SoftKeys or take a look at Android or Linux both reported as booting in HTC Diamond/Pro.

PS. I am not out to flame ppl, if it upsets anyone I will delete the post.

In the first post I stated " ...this is just eyecandy stuff...." and " ...i regret the lack of cool interfaces " and again "...maybe not be top usability around...".

First, WM isn't neither of them, so almost any alternative is better.

Second, if I would beat all the other interfaces out there i would make this a job and you should pay for it (SPB mobile shell isn't free, and Manilla is a port of a htc interface and i'm always asking myself if there is or not some kind of copyright infringements using their graphics for the port, if not the concept itself).

This isn't the instance.

Third, i said from the beginnins that i wouldn't have the WM bars visible, they are NOT finger friendly, i'm not changing idea right now cause i though about it before.

Fourth, if you want to customize your Interface at the very bottom you don't need this, you need a better skin for another interface, i'm not making a clone od Home Screen Plus Plus, or Todaylife, or Manilla. If you feel better with those, stick to them.

This is different, not necessarily the best for you.

About the integration, if I should integrate my design inside windows mobile I would have to make it way uglier, or similar to other things around (visually speaking), as you can see every function that is not included in the touchflo interface (and they are many) is Windows Mobile interface, and the only thing touchflo does is launch things from its interface, very few more information than the standard samsung todays.

So no big effort of integration in terms of design, the only one is that touchflo is a today plugin, and I didn't want to do a plugin.

About the performance, I don't agree with you, SPB Mobile shell is quite performant even not being a plugin but an overlaying app.

Take this as my opinion, not an attack toward you.

PS: BTW, Manilla 2D IS infact a shell. No new functionality but the touchflo and the weather panel.

@gaga_lefou: Look at the file you downloaded, it says alpha. Alpha means: pre-beta. As you may now, beta versions have bugs, and this alpha version has maybe 2/3 bugs, so the guys did a great job, just sit back and relax till the next version comes! (how difficult it may be)

If i understand, we will not have a ".cab" or ".exe" for the global program ? I think it will be better to have a global instal like SPB. B)

Omnilock as a great graphism but i thought it was a "Demo" because its does not work 100% for me, bug with samsung widget theme: Soft Reset its necesarry if i use it: after launch omnilock, after 3 min of the samsung black screen, i Unlock and windows bar disapear.

There is no landscape animation too.

It wont have a new Omnilock version or Omnilock alpha5 is the official release ?

Yes, its prefect, and how can we add subcategories ? SPB Mobil Shell its easy to add some program, i hope it will be so easy to the official Omnishell , so great graphism so i'm waiting for a first good release, i hope very soon B)

Alpha version means : Not fully functional version, what you are looking for is the Gold Release.

OmniLock is an Alpha so there will be other releases with more functionality and bug fixes until we reach Gold. If you read the first post it's stated in huge letters that this isn't meant to be used every day 'casue we know it have bugs.

We released it to show people that we were working on something.

Given the general posts about the usage of the lock i understood that:

1. we need to release just betas

2. no need to write things on the first page 'cause almost no one reads them, or maybe my english is worst than I though.

The fact that it bugs with samsung widgets doesn't surprise me because it isn't meant to work with it, but explain us what kind of behaviour it has ( make a detailed list of the passages that leads to the bug) and we will do what we can to avoid conflict.

It's easy, just dont give support to people like that, they don't read, they just ask. Lazyness!

I agrree, too.

Hellbender, this is a wonderful gift for all omnia owners. Thank you very much for your efforts. Do not bother with lazy questions and please use your energy only for this great aplication.

Thanks again...

Very nice interface. Is it possible to add fullscreen CallerID function? I ask because i use S2U2 as screenlock+CallerID and if you already made screenlock function, maybe it is possible to add a CallerID...

P.S. sorry for my English B)

Hello Hellbender ,

I' m a French newbie ( sorry for my poor english ) , I don' t know anything about coding but I try to read all posts which may improve my omnia ; now , I am on Passoa Rom ( DTJ9/M2D03 ) and I have affected the rignt softkey ( with M2DC ) to omnilock : it works fine

I think your first idea to develop a totally NEW interface is THE good idea and , if any comments or suggestions can help to improve your hard work , in my opinion , you should go on with your first project .

Congratulations for all the developpers , and make sure I will be one of the first users of Omnishell as soon as the Gold release is updated

I'm sorry, i'am very bad to write in english so i try to explain:

when i unlock, my windows bar in the samsung today disapear. Its the main problem.

And its difficult to unlock because "the circle" is too small.

Thats all B) but i love it ! And i have understand that is an alpha release, its ok ! B)

I have an idea but maybe its too hard because you have a lot of work with the main interface.

This Shell looks very pretty, the problem I think many ppl will have is just that, its a shell! Merely skinning over all WM functionality, Start Menu, SoftKeys etc will only slow the device down and make the simplest of tasks/notifications challenging.

- Its not possible to create a new Keyboard with omnishell ?

- A WM integration with this skin will be so incredible like Wisbar do but i think its a difficult and a long time work.

But, the omnishell interface was so good that its possible to develop a lot of apli with the same skin after the Omnishell release is OK.

Take you time to develop a great release with no beug.

I dont know where you are with the main interface but maybe take more time to give us THE ULTIMATE INTERFACE for the omnia.

And i think its in the right way B)

Congratulations for all the developpers , and make sure I will be one of the first users of Omnishell as soon as the Gold release is updated

Me Too B)

Thank you again.

Hi ,

I do a test tonight : i enabled Omnilock tonight on 2h00 AM , with fully charged battery and at 8h30 AM, the battery level was down to 20% : my Rom is DTJ9/M2D03 , all the programs were closed before enabling Omnilock . I don' t think this issue depends on the ROM , because with Windows unlock function , no worry .

So , I should advice all the users to enable omnilock for a short time only , until this issue could be fixed

Regards

PS : one missed call , and two mails tonight

Im using DTHJ6/M2D02

Hi there!

First of all thanks for the report.

So about the battery draining issue you found:

- If you turned your screen off, I don't think this has something to do with Omnilock, since the application doesn't run anymore while the screen is off.

- If you didn't, it's true that the CPU is constantly used due to performance issues, but don't worry those have already been fixed B). It was my first priority when I started working on the new release.

Cheers!

Hi, it's good to hear you're already working on the next release, what will be different in next release?

Well, let's just say that we will try to release a fully functional lock screen with some extras.

By the way, I know we said that we don't really care about compatibility but, "by chance", it's very likely that the next release will be more compatible with other devices. It will be more flexible as well since it will have an xml configuration file.

That's it for the heads up :-p

Noooooo! It sounds stupid, but why don't keep it for ourselves? Now the Omnia owners got something unique...

Anyhow, I would still like it B)

Hi, i just tried the omnilock for a few minutes and i found that the active zone for the litte ball to slide in is rather too small. So if i dont follow a precise arc, i won't be able to unlock the phone. As so, i cant unlock the phone when i go just a lilttle fast.

Is it just me with my big fingers or if i dont use my finger nail, it's very hard for me to unlock.

Not really a pb, but if u can take a look for this in the next release, it'll be awesome.

haha tongue.gif!

Like I said its just "by chance" and anyway it will still be hard to convert the images to other resolutions.

Love you too LeSScro!

Look at, for example, Manilla 3D. Everybody with a HTC is very proud of it, and they try to make everyone jalous, because only HTC has something like that. Now we can make something Omnique B)

I looks really nice but I dont have the indicators at the bottom of the screen that shows bluetooth and wi-fi enabled. And another crusial problem that I realised a moment ago, It stops responding after screen goes off and wake up.

And an idea, would it use g-sensor to swing and unlock after touching to the middle of the swing circle??

I have i900DTHJ6/MCR02 ROM ON i900XXHJ1 PHONE

How would that work? The person presses the button and then rotate's or swings their phone to unlock? :s sounds kinda counterproductive to me... :|

Manilla 3D for HTC - Widget UI for Samsung - Omnishell for the rest of The World...

but not for U B) !

Love you too man ! Peace ! B)

I m still trying convert Hellbender's graphics to WA2... in few days... preview Update based on 11/12/08...

But in Programs i can't reproduce sliding effect and i think, apps must be arrange by theme... like MY start menu.../office - /Games - /Multimedia - /Tools...

Preview in few days... B)

Yes that's what I try to explain, Touch to the middle of th screen and swing the phone like a ball turning inside, it would look cool. Without needence of first touch, it may open by itself.. I dont have an idea for making it quicker for now.. sorry B)
