S710 was the best phone ever IMHO.. now if the touch pro wasn't so damn thick..

These phones look to all confirm my point in an earlier post....regurgitated phones with one or two differences/upgrades. As much as HTC has done to make WinMo great....I think they have also hurt WinMo by watering down the choices. These tiny improvements that fix past mistakes are annoying.

My recommendation: Less choices: Make a great Great GREAT phone that will last a couple of years....then an even greater phone to replace that.....repeat! Innovate and the masses will buy it en mass!

(And yes...sometimes...I wish I had a nice little candybar phone...with all the features of today's phones!)

Why do people complain about WinMo doing this, when the iPhone had two changes in a year. 3G which sucked, and GPS which has no software. HTC have provided something for everyone, so it's easier (to quote something I saw earlier) to get the phone that's right for you. You don't need to upgrade every year, but if HTC were selling devices like the original Touch as new, with all the latest/greatest features now (Apple seem to have got away with it, but they spend billions on smashing marketing into peoples heads) there would be lots of complaints from everyone, and WinMo critics would voice there opinions that WinMo hardware is out of date.

There is no one device that'll work for everyone, so it's utterly futile trying to create one. Also, many of the devices shown are just CDMA/US GSM bands versions of the devices. There aren't that many basic form factors/price points but many different networks!

Are they ever gonna produce any phones with a joypad and scroll wheel again?

Looks like I'm stuck with my Hermes till I die!

I have a Voice Messenger at the moment...

show off.

Hmmm doesn't appear to be any possible Tegra based devices there with a hdmi socket. The Whitestone is the only possible candidate :)

Hero - hmmmm

What is it about Android phones that they have to look so awful - Painting it pink means no-one can see it. Have they been reading to much Douglas Adams?

I cant seem to see any replacement for the Touch Dual there... the rumoured "HTC Titanium"

Does this mean its not going to happen now?

I have a Voice Messenger too. It'd be a great phone if it wasn't for the stupid optical joystick - why they had to ruin it with that instead of sticking a regular d-pad on it I'll never know...

I'm liking the look of the 3G Excalibur. I like my Nokia E71 but would definitely be tempted back to WM Standard if it has a similar form factor as the E71.

Nokia hardware is great, but S60 is not the best...

All sluggish flash'n'fluff and nothing with a compelling non-Qualcomm-based platform, yet.

A small PPC sized phone device running Windows Vista is what is needed! :)

Snap the puppy into an optional dummy terminal with additional storage and disk drive and you got yourself a winner!

Then Paul can crack it and install OSX on it :D

A bunch of sluggish Qualcomm devices in different clothing unless they flesh out that the innards are going to be different this time around.

It's tired to continue bailing out HTC for the same product. MS Money anybody?

The Raphael with a tilt, and maybe slightly thinner would be the best!

that's pretty much what i want :)

unfortunately there isn't really much more that you can put in a phone right now, so new phones are just the same feature sets with different software or bug fixes - its the same everywhere

microsoft money would be nice to see on win mo i think, but its not critical - i cant see myself switching away form win mo anytime soon

Would someone just make a winmo version of the iPhone already?! Start with a Smartphone with a large PPC sized screen and modify from there!

Exactly - because they compare it with the bad result with the S310 (according to my HTC source) ..

For some reason they do not want to produce a competitive candybar handset..

And then we have to accept that the only handset (right now) is the Samsung SGH i200 (sigh)

I second that - I still use my good old Tornado (WM5 still). There is just no successor to it yet. My slight hope to have the BenQ E72 as a successor was burried after I noted the base noise on the headphones -> see my blog on that.

There is no single WM (standard) device available fitting this simple set:

# Music Player (no noise at low volume, still high volume possible)

# SDHC compatible

# no touchscreen

# Windows Mobile

# WiFi

# light-weight (less than 100g)

# and yes - it has to work as a mobile phone too :-)

The Samsung is really close - but missing WiFi :-(

And physically is actually bigger than the Touch Pro!

Nope, never use it...

P

I guess my point is...don't transition out the smartphone but make it the one finger touch, simple to use, iPhone-esque (adding multi-touch and gesturing) competitor and keep the touch screen ppc with stylus as the powerhouse it is.

??? - according to my calculator the Touch Pro is >30% larger than the i200

SGH i200 = 70,4cubic centimeters

Touch Pro = 93,6cubic centimeters

Sure but did you take into account the total mass? the i200's combined atomic structure is much more dense!

Window Vista is SO last year - we need Windows 7 on our phones!

:)
