First Windows Mobile 6.5 for OMNIA II Review

I8000UZNII1 is the 1st firmware base on Windows Mobile 6.5 release by Samsung that currently available download from internet. (Not official from Samsung website)

This firmware actually is specific make for China market, but no issue when using at any OMNIA II phone. The only drawback is it only support Simplified Chinese Interface, which means not possible to switch to English or others languages interface.

Pros of I8000UZNII1:

Windows Mobile 6.5 (not the latest build 6.5.1)
Stable (I never face any issue yet like 6.1 which you may face need to restart the phone after a period of time due to some application may not run properly)
New nice Start Menu and Today Screen
Redesign of Samsung Main Menu
No issue displaying Chinese language everywhere
Better preloaded keypad with support of English & Chinese Language
More finger friendly Interface (at Default Windows Mobile interface)
Overall speed is good, I believe future firmware will be much more smoother
A lot of new application preloaded by Microsoft
New Internet Explorer 6 Interface
Brightness auto control is working finally, it won't rapidly changing like last time on WM 6.1
GPS is signal is must more better and faster. (I can locate the signal at 1st use without on the XTRA)
WiFi standard for China WAPI is support (By default is WAPI, which means you need to disable it before can use in others country include Malaysia as WAPI standard only support in China, but now if I at China, I can use it because WAPI support is included)
- Only Simplified Chinese Menu
- ROM size too big
- Start-up screen has change to one of the China operator logo rather than the default Samsung logo
- Got few Junk China operator program (can't uninstall but can delete manually)
- Samsung Main Menu interface got some bugs which prevent you remove the 1st 5 icons. (Solutions is manually remove all icon from start menu to others location, then add in back one icon, with such step the bugs is solved)
- Samsung Main Menu speed is slowest than Samsung Main Menu at Windows Mobile 6.1 when 1st launch
- Smart Search is Remove
- Some issue on Phone book which it can't understand +60XX XXXX XXX is same as 0XX XXXX XXX (This problem can be solved using Advanced Configuration Tools from touchxperience by changing the default value set by Samsung of "Called ID Match" from 11 to 8. (This actually not really a bugs rather than value set is different due to China handphone number is damn long)

  [*] Half press the camera shutter until the cursor became green and then press down to shot
  [*]Use "SCN - Scenery" for shooting scenery or human (you may choose person for human as well)

U didnt by any chance fell from the sky from another dimension have you :D 6.5 for i900 has been out for ages, i'm sure you know that since you... own an i900, sort of, dont u? :P or did u mean i8000? Yes we are all very fond of 6.5 for the new omnia. I hope the Samsung guys gonna develop some things that would help chainfire and company to develop the speed and triangles/s or at least make the development easier, as the Samsung coders should do that by default b4 launching the phone... cant seem to understand what were they thinking not doing so :)

i can only say ow wow! to the pictures the quality is just about fenomenal! I cant wait to see the look on the cavemen using iphone when they see those pics :D

Apparently 6.5 gets released this week, im in Australia so i dont know when but i when i update to 6.5 does it update the phones firmware aswell???? As i still have the original.

Also, there still seems to be the 'whistle' effect in the videos :)

When you say original firmware G1? G6?

I had this issue with video audio too, also with the old firmwares if you encode a video with original DTS track, to 2 channel stereo to play on your O2, it also has a crackling sound when bass iin the movie is played, now with the latest H+ firmwares thats fixed :)

Dude this is the first official 6.5 rom for netherlands. You have custom 6.5 roms out for couple months now in the omnia i900 part of the modaco forum. It the costumization of 6.5 roms that add the glitter not just the 6.5 as a fact itself. So having 6.5 out officially for omnia i900 is no real big expectation actually because it still needs those tweaks and modifications that cooks implement in them. And by doing so, the phone loses its waranty unless you flash it back to official rom. That ends up the same as flashing back to either 6.5 or 6.1 as it is only for the time when the phone is on repair due to waranty reasons. When u get the phone back u flash it to custom 6.5 rom that is way better than original 6.5 rom. Knowing that, i dont see any reasong being anxious to get the 6.5 for i900? Why want original 6.5 when u can get costumized 6.5 that is original + improvments.

Its the 6.5 for i8000 is what its worth being anxious for :D That way the cooks can have their work done a lot easier than they do now. I only dont seem to understand as this is the "first winmo 6.5 for omnia II in chinese" when they made a review on gsmarena.com of a 6.5 version for O2 in ENGLISH :)

Is that ROM for mainland China? I've bought my unit in HK and it has the possibility to switch to the English UI. I'll wait for the end of the month before upgrading (should be the HK 6.5 release).
