Guest TheGoDxxxx Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Omnia 2 ROMs all have 20mb of PagePool. I think it's crazy value. It should be at least half of that. I didn't see any difference in performance (and it was prooved several years ago already) if PP size more than 8MB - only to waste of precious RAM. I sorg, thanks for clearifying that. Is there a publicy avialable way to change the size of the pagepool yet? If not, at least we can look forward to 12 MB of free additional ram, I quess :) Also, can u explain a little more about the memory segmentation in windows mobile or point me to a site or post that allready did? Id like to know what exactly that whole Reserved Memory is and what eats the 70 MB of available ram at startup.

I don't understand why they can't just cram some more memory in these things? It simply can't cost that much extra to double or tripple the memory! I'm hoping once the i8000L becomes available in the USA we'll see some ROMs come along...
Guest sorg Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Is there a publicy avialable way to change the size of the pagepool yet? i don't know such utilities. PP size is inside kernel and not fixed in specific address. So different devices and even differen ROMs for the same device may have different addresses for PP value. You can not change PP size directly in WM because this value us used at very beginning when kernel starts. So it should be changed in NK.exe file before build ROM image. Also, can u explain a little more about the memory segmentation in windows mobile or point me to a site or post that allready did? there was (and probably still exists) topic on xda-developers.com forum where someone tested device with different PP sizes. I've read it very long time ago. So, if you're interesting in it - try to search there.

Is it because Samsung is looking for stability in the phone thats why they want to set it at 20mb for pagepool?
Guest kibiwi Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) I got my Omnia 2 (i8000L) about 2 days ago, and I must say, I'm very disapponted with the memory usage/availability. Only 163MB of program storage, and 140MB of ram? Instantly at boot 70MB of my ram is gone, and it seems to leak away very quickly.... In the Omnia Settings -> Memory Settings -> Program RAM it shows a total of 256MB (which would certainly be acceptable), but literally 50% of that is "reserved" (whatever that's supposed to mean) and 25% is "In Use" immediately after startup... I don't understand 140 mb not reserved, instantly at boot task manager displays processes are using 30 mb, maybe 20 is for pagepool, but I have 70 mb available so who use the rest (140-30-20=90mb)?maybe the services? If so is there a way to check a given service consumed ram? ps: I have all today plugins disabled and no additional keyboards installed Edited November 12, 2009 by kibiwi

AFAIK, there is no way to display the usage of reserved memory.

AFAIK, there is no way to display the usage of reserved memory. "Reserved" is displayed in the Samsung settings menus under Program RAM. What really annoys me is that the device is advertised as having 256MB of RAM, while in reality it's 140MB when comparing to other devices.
Guest Rdy2Go Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 nice joke u have got there... best joke of year 2009.... :) :D Thank you! Seriously: I downgraded to WM 6.1 and both the performance and amount of available memory improved significantly. Just do it, you can always flash back to WM 6.5.

Just do it, you can always flash back to WM 6.5. Does it still only display 140MB of total ram, instead of the 256MB thats in the device?
