Guest Dan Mullen Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I've followed this thread since the start, I'm tempted to install the Vanilla ROM but most folk seem to report problems and I'm loathed to potentially turn my reliable Pulse into one with some bugs. At present it's a standard unlocked Pulse with the December update using Vodafone - I'd like to remove the T Mobile branding and improve the laginess that the T Mobile software seems to be causing. If I knew I could install the Vanilla ROM without causing any grief I'd give it a go - has anyone managed to do a successful installation of Vanilla and have a phone thats as stable and reliable as the standard phone? Thanks The vanilla Android MCR 1.2 should be absolutely fine. The only issues I found with it were related to apps2sd, but if you're not going to use that I would recommend this ROM. It's definitely faster than the T-Mobile one, plus you can choose which contact groups to sync in Google Contacts :)

So maybe just give it a go and hope for the best, it is a much faster rom which im missing alot since i went back to the stock tmobile.
Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I'm having a crack at this just now. Its a standard T Mobile pulse with the December update. I've installed the recovery image and done a Nandroid backup. I've then done a factory reset. I'm now trying to install the Vanilla ROM but I'm getting a 'no signature' message which then gives a verification failed message and aborts the installation. Any thoughts? do I need to reinstall the December update after the factory reset? Thanks

Thanks Nope, reinstalled the December update and then it lost the recovery image (replaced it with the factory reset screen) reinstalled the recovery image and still getting the same error msg as above?
Guest twe Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Not had that error message before, have you tried redownloading that rom?
Guest starkos Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) Nope, reinstalled the December update and then it lost the recovery image (replaced it with the factory reset screen) reinstalled the recovery image and still getting the same error msg as above? When downloading the custom from 1st page, which is a .zip file, have you been extracting it as that may mess it up if it's signed? If you have been extracting it try downloading it again and just rename it to update.zip without extracting. Hope u get it sorted.. Edit: Actually not sure if you do need to rename it anymore lol? Ah :) Downloaded again - and this time I left it alone, unzipping a zip file is a bit of a natural reaction it seems. Now installed on the Pulse and rebooting. Thanks

Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Glad you got it working mate and enjoy ;) Well sort of working. After the reboot I ended up with no icons on my home screen and dragging to the left screen gave me the 'acore' error and forced a closedown of all the home screens and icons. After a search on the forum the fix seemed to be to do a wipe and a reboot. This solved the 'acore' error but now I have a Pulse running the french Bueygues branding :) The fix for this seems to be to change the locale to English and to reboot - doesn't seem to work for my phone. 2 Questions - the wipe that's mentioned in the first post, is this just the data wipe/factory reset? also, the reboot that's mentioned in a few places, is this the reboot from the recovery image screen? Unless anyone can suggest summit else, I'll start from scratch again tomorrow and see where that takes me.

Fortunately I only had the french lang problem but that was fixed by the method you stated, strange it hasn't worked for u? There may be a simple fix, but if it was me as you seem to have already done a wipe, I would boot into recovery and do a wipe from there then whilst staying in recovery mount the sd card on cpu & copy the custom rom zip back on the sd card and do the update again. I'm not too clued up on the subject so you may wana see if someone more knowledgeable comes along first lol!
Guest Richard_Arkless Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 (edited) Question, How do I add/remove apps from the rom, do I just add the apps i want into the data/app folder and delete the apps I dont want from the system/app folder or do I also need to edit some files Edited January 3, 2010 by Richard_Arkless
Guest flash2004 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Is it possible to get the Tmobile Touchpal keyboard in this ROM ? (The one with the swipe down functionality)... that would be awesome ?
Guest giryan Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Is it possible to get the Tmobile Touchpal keyboard in this ROM ? (The one with the swipe down functionality)... that would be awesome ? it's on it, if you look on language and locale under settings then you can turn the swipe down functionality back on, it's just defaulted to off on this ROM.

Guest -SC- Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 I'm having trouble even doing the December update. I go through the steps and then get a yellow triangle saying update failed. Any ideas? Do I have to get my pulse back to a standard t-mobile config before doing the December update or something?

I didn't have to change the rom to install the update, I installed it on 1.1 of the vanilla custom rom. Not sure why it's not working for you though, perhaps try re-downloading the December update to extract and copy the dload folder over again?
Guest chrisnic0 Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Looks like this is the ROM for me, but i still cant download the zip file on the first page, just keeps going back to www.modaco.com?? Also is the google contact sync issue fixed? Will it add every email recipient I get? Thanks Chris

With this rom you can choose to sync only a group instead of all the contacts.

I seem to remember Paul saying this was a safeguard against external linking (can't find the thread now).
