Heh, Sweet, I just hit 'Hardcore'!. Well, it would be for people who have some previous knowledge in cooking, or want to learn, so someone can help me figure out why we're getting some of the errors.

You know I'm in, considering how many times I've hard reset/re-flashed my i920 in the past week.

Sure.

I problem now is not the dumping or building, pre se, but either file types or attributes (I think). I can release a working kitchen over the weekend, but until someone find out exactly what's causing the problems (I have an idea, just waiting for a confirmation), it will boot an unstable rom.

How many of you would like to test out a kitchen, even if the resulting rom isn't stable?

Count me in. I still have a trusty i910 to use as primary if I need to.

things have been CRAZY! I got a new job :) but in the process I closed my bank account to open one closer to home... long story short, I haven't followed through with my donation YET WoZZeR, but like most these ppl here your 910 rom was my first flash and I can't believe your here helping us 920 users out. Tomorrow, after I open my Bank of America account I will get that donation I promised over to you :)

THANK YOU!!!!!

Wozzer, I know you said you just do it for the challenge, but I sent a little pre-release donation your way anyways. Thanks.

Really the things I'd like to see removed are the touchwiz/widgetplus UI, opera, and anything verizon branded, in addition to the pointless files like the decibel test sounds, etc. I really like the rest of the interface (dialer, photo viewer, communities, calendar, etc.)

I wonder about Swype though, as it's "not to be included in ROM releases". Does this still apply if our ROM will only be functional on the i920? Given that Swype was already included, and thus paid for, there should be no issue with including it. I'm all for IP protection, but I don't want to lose/break one of my favorite features.

I have been wondering the same exact thing... I won't load a cooked ROM if Swype will be difficult to load back in.

Swype is, in my honest opinion, the best onscreen keyboard I've ever used. I actually rock Swype faster than the physical keyboard on my Droid. It worked well on the i910 but with the plastic screen it was sometimes inaccurate. On the i920 it's smooth and just outstanding. A tribute to it's inventor whomever that might be.

I would totally assume that since the i920 comes with swype, it's a non-issue as to keeping it on the phone. I already have different skins for mine ready to be cooked in :)

When I start cooking roms I'll just leave the executable out, and give people instructions on how to put it in on their own. That might be a workaround.

I am very keen to start cooking. I've cooked a few custom roms before, so hopefully I should be able to get a rom out pretty fast.

This is great if we've got an experienced chef already. Wozzer is awesome, but not having an Omnia2 of his own will keep his ability to cook to a minimum. Plus he's sure to want to spend his time making the TP2 more than it is.

What phones have you cooked? What do you shoot for - bare minimum, different apps, performance? If I can free up the time, I'm going to try to learn how to cook - if not for the O2, then for my original Omnia.

I wouldn't really call myself experienced; I just cooked a few apps into a rom for my friends hd2 and the way I did it was pretty dirty... I got lazy so i just put the files under program files then made a link to them from the start menu. I'll probably be making ones with different apps and performance upgrades, I'm not big on bare minimum or lite roms. But... if theres enough people that want bare minimum roms; i'd be happy to make some after I figure out how to use the kitchen for the i920. I'm already planning to remove parts of touchwiz like the main menu and modifying the samsung lockscreen since its a swf file.

Was going to PM u. I'm having problems with the getting Octans work.

I have Windows 7 x86 and x64. I have tried every possible combination to get Octans using the information of GSM forum here:

http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...g-rom-on-i8000/

http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...h-on-windows-7/

http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...4bit-windows-7/

Still cannot get octans to work.

The phone is being detected (shows in device manger), But then it disappears in few seconds (in device manager). I running out of option. I was able to install the unsigned drivers on GSM forums with proper timing.

WoZZeR999/Shemmy can u tell me what exactly u did with Windows 7 to get it to work with Octans?

I tried both Octans 2.11 and Octans mini.

I did dump the phone using dskdump and created the packages using i900_EXEcutor_2.6 and recreated a flashable rom using o2util. I just cannot get Octans to see the phone?

I think the trick is yo put it into hard reset mode (where it asks if you want to reset), then push the reset button. Shemmy could go into more detail, I'm flying blind.

Octans downloader is what is being used. You can also try setting it to XP compatibility mode, or run it in a emulated XP environment.

Are you using -nb0pack or nb0build with o2util?

Octans is just a pain in the arse, plain and simple. You want to make sure it's set for XP SP3 compatibility. I can't say there's a 100% foolproof way to get it to recognise the i920. Usually, I can try the hard reset key combo or just use the soft reset button. Sometimes, I have to plug/unplug a lot to get it to recognise.

We've got a 21863 kitchen that seems to work. I'll try to write something up in a few minutes that will get it to build. There won't be any XIP or sys stuff with this, so it's a good basic kitchen to get your OEMApps ready for when I can get an updated SYS/XIP working.

Edit: 1 more test, and I'll release the kitchen (which will include the OEM and SYS), so it's going to be a big download. Future revisions will include more instructions and XIP/SYS porting instructions.

This kitchen is for people who know how to cook for the i910/use BuildOS (not the new fancy visual kitchens with EXT support).

Click buildrom, press play. Close the windows then the status says 'Done'. Flashrom.nb0 will be produced when the console closes.

Edit 2: For a new SYS, you'll need to know how to port XIP's as well... Just FYI.

I used -nb0pack. I'm going to work tomorrow... will try an XP SP3 machine. If that seems to work better. I'll in XP VM using VMWare W7.

Shemmy: I did try the XP SP3 compatibilty mode on x86 and x64 Win7. I also tried soft reset. I will definitely try a hard reset option. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the kitchen Wozzer... whenever u drop it.

If you are running win7 Pro/ulti, you can download the xp environment.

Edit: We've got some final testing to do on the i920 kitchen, but so far so good. If all goes well, I'll post a link to the kitchen around 11:30 (EST) :)

It's just picky. Usually, I can get it to take either immediately or within one or two tries. Other times, I have to fight with it. The following method has the best success rate:

Set up everything in octans and click detect

plug in the i920 while it is powered off

if it doesn't go into the boot loader, use the stylus to hit the soft reset button

at this point, it will probably hang on the Omnia II screen - unplug the i920

plug it back in

It's 11:30(est) and no issues reported so far. Here's the link to the kitchen, so chef's, have at it! I still re-post a new kitchen, when I know that SYS/XIP porting works as it should, but just transfer your OEM to the new kitchen, and you should* be fine.

So now, I present you with the i920 kitchen: http://www.4shared.com/file/205662838/70de...20_Kitchen.html

*I say this now, and hope it to be true, but I will not guarentee it will be accurate. Just covering my butt.

Edit 1:Just giving credit where credit is due. This could not have been done without rodrigofd's awesome o2util.

Edit 2:Btw, if anyone needs to get a hold of me, I check XDA more often, click here for my member page.

Edit 3: Yay, going on an edit frenzy :) Thanks to all those who donated! Please include your nick when you donate, so I know who to thank!.. Thanks Steel Reign, Snow02 and Amdzero!
