Just a thought - could it happen that these rumors about upgrade to version 2.1 are designed to stop development of third party roms for this device, or at least to slow them down. Well, "rumors" is not so correct word, but the timing information could be wrong. I'm sure there will be upgrade to 2.1 or other version, but timing...?

Tmo have no reason to slow development of custom ROM's, it doesn't reduce the revenue they make out of you. Its unlocking the phone that loses them money.

I heard somewhere that 2.1 Rom is nearly complet at huawei, but the performance should be very low. Think this is caused by the slow and cheap flashmemory, even the cupcake speed is incredible low if you are using multitasking without Apps2SD.

always remain that the pulse got to bring also the MyCommunity Software by Telecom, which wont be usefull at all to the overall perfomance.

I'm sure that the speeds can be increased over here by Paul and his gang

If you strip it down enough, it can perform properly. I'm the guy that's had DOS on a dual core machine and windows XP on a Pentium 1 (or maybe 2).

They give me the source and I will sort it out =P As long as I learn how first haha.

LOL love to know where you heard that.

Multitasking is overrated, what is it that you really need to multitask on a mobile other than things like sms and email. Do you really need to multitask two games or anything that uses a lot of power, please help me understand

did you ever used a taskmanager? there are a huge amount of processes idled in ram, especially games are very often stealing ram. when I open taskmanager, i got about 40 megabytes of free men, after start-up nearly whole men is in usage.

compared to a huge standard Rom ( which telecom got to sign ) and a dirty proged myCommunity GUI, it won't be fast at all.

don't think own not pleased about 2.1 Android or even the custom Rom, but if 2.1 + myCommunity got to be fast enough for getting signed by Telecom befour you can build some custom time.

greets basher

How about listening to music while you browse the web?

And you struggle to do that on the pulse ?

How about, email + rss + music + twitter + browser + SMS + answering a call. *EDIT* oh, and a fancy replacement keyboard app, task manger, and a couple of widgets too.

Multitasking's pretty much necessary on a smartphone, and the Pulse isn't all that great at it :/

I use all of that on my Pulse and it runs preeety smooth for a 530MHz cheapo ram machine <_<

I can run 5+ apps on my phone just fine. Using MCR 1.7 with a task killer to end apps regularly

what is the best app manager (a search of task manager brings up multiple options). Also what is the average free memory? Mine floats around 18mb, but i do have the pulse rom with each screen pretty much full of widgets/apps.

EDIT: As this is actually a thread about 2.1, i thought i should also state that i went in to the Leadenhall Market branch of TMobile today and they had no idea about an upcoming Pulse update. FYI

I like to keep the/a browser running in the background without it being killed by the OS. I need to know where I was on the page because I read really long pages, which can take me hours (even days) to finish reading, and obviously I use email etc and like to leave it on the home page when I put it on standby (touch of OCD lol). The opera mini beta works best for me in terms of layout for long text based pages but it would get closed by the OS after a little while (on stock custom rom and vanilla custom rom) so I've changed the autokill settings so they're on the lower side for hidden apps. Now the OS leaves it alone, and I'm used to killing apps myself anyway (who isn't if they've used WM). So much happier! <_<

Was using dolphin, but even though it remembers the state it was autokilled in it doesn't seem to remember where I was on the page.

So yeah multitasking is possible.

I think some of them don't know what a mobile/cell phone is.

It's annoying that there is no confirmed date, as the waiting is killing me.

This is what we've got to look forward to!

T-Mobile NL has dropped it too, they state on the forum that their stock has been sold and new mobiles are arriving shortly.

They also state that support should still continue, we just have to wait and see I guess....

Watch the last minute of this video where they are comparing the Pulse to the Pulse mini

Doesn't that look like an android 2.1 app (Gallery) on the Pulse? :)

Well, I haven't seen it before. Don't eat me if I'm wrong tho.

Well that would be unfortunate - almost any other phone you could buy would be 2.1.

I imagine he means he would have no confidence that phone companies will support their phones. Even if you buy a 2.1 phone now - would you just then be equally irritated when everyone else is getting v2.5 six months later?
