Guest david_dawkins Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 I imagine he means he would have no confidence that phone companies will support their phones. Even if you buy a 2.1 phone now - would you just then be equally irritated when everyone else is getting v2.5 six months later? Huawei hasn't even failed to deliver yet; even if they do fail, it says nothing about all the other manufacturers out there and their commitment to supporting their phones. Let's assume he means Huawei specifically, not Android.
Guest le_lutin Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Even if you buy a 2.1 phone now - would you just then be equally irritated when everyone else is getting v2.5 six months later? Disappointed, yes. Irritated, no. I bought the phone "as-is" and I don't feel that the manufacturer has any obligation to upgrade the firmware. If they do though, then that's a nice bonus.
Guest chris9181 Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Ok, I'm waiting to be shot down in a great plume of smoke now but here goes!! What is 2.1 actually gonna give us that is fundamentally going to change the way we enjoy this great phone already?

Don't forget that it gets us everything from 1.6 too.
Guest biron_w Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 I keep checking on this site to see if 2.1 has been released for the pulse yet.I'd like to have it. However,if it doesn't get released then i'm not that bothered.I'm quite happy with my pulse the way it is.

Guest masterpfa Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) Ok, I'm waiting to be shot down in a great plume of smoke now but here goes!! What is 2.1 actually gonna give us that is fundamentally going to change the way we enjoy this great phone already? There is an improvement to be had in the overall experience using 2.1. In stock Android form, without the physical enhancements, you will be getting many of the features from the likes of the Nexus 1, the launcher, access to a larger number of apps in the market and within reason, Google navigation. I am no longer holding my breath just enjoying my phones. Currently on my Hero I am using the CyanogenMOD for Hero and loving it. I personally enjoy the Vanilla/Stock Android look and can't wait for the official releases, BUT I won't be losing any sleep over this affair (I'm personally looking forward to my next upgrade to see what news phone or OS will be out then, Android 2.2, 2.5????? Snapdragon 1.5Mhz (I can dream can't I???) :) Edited March 22, 2010 by masterpfa
Guest Stevos Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 For me, it's a few issues; the availability of software (Goggles, navigation, proper facebook & contacts synch etc amongst others), but also a sign that the device is not going to be left totally behind as the technology moves on. I will also be more confident in the platform succeeding longer term if manufacturers are interested in supporting new versions. Presumably the benefit from Huawei / other manufacturers point of view is that they want to maintain a common codebase between their different handsets (as far as possible), and doing so might be a sign that they are committed to releasing more android handsets in the future. We've got a great budget range Android handset here, and it looks as if it should be capable of running a more up-to-date OS, so I'm really looking forward to it. Having said that, I bought it with 1.5 so anything extra is a bonus :)

Guest Stevos Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 It will probably work out ok. I do wish manufacturers would stop releasing *new* handsets with old OS versions though... Stop with these *silly* custom interfaces and spend the time on releasing stuff with an up to date OS. Stock android is fine. Grrr...
Guest Rem1x Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Just got this tweeted to me by T-Mobile, regarding Android 2.1 No confirmed dates yet Stuart, we will tweet and post on our forums when we know :-) www.bit.ly/TMForum Seems like it's coming though!

Guest jmmL Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...nQrPB089SAqxhfA That's funny, I was just wondering whether to post that or not! I'm not entirely sure what's being said, but the first poster seems to suggest 2.1 is a few days away. Take with a whole salt-shaker of course.
Guest xangma Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 Mmmmm, we need a proper translator =]
Guest ogiogi Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 Hope its true. P.S. favorite reply: Unless modaco to a good rom otherwise changed this year to put a little pulse are not multi-task machine! Thank you Google. :)))

P.S. favorite reply: Unless modaco to a good rom otherwise changed this year to put a little pulse are not multi-task machine! Thank you Google. :))) Well clicking through to some other threads about 2.1 on that site I found the comment "Is estimated that overseas compatriots are so distraught"
Guest de_shepherd Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 "Is estimated that overseas compatriots are so distraught" May not need to be distraught. Just been browsing the huawei website ... take a look at the 8220 handset description http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/prod...7&treeId=37 says it supports flash and the colour scheme on the screen shot looks very different .... is this 2.1?

It's been like that for a while now.
Guest MarcusHenrique Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 Hey I've asked this at my own topic but no succesful answers. When huawei releases Android update will I be able to download, maybe a generic version, from somewhere? Cause mine is Regular U8220, not T-Mobile version. And I'm sure my provider won't care about releasing an OS update. Thank's folks
Guest HunteronX Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 It's been like that for a while now. This link shows a download for this generic U8220 device, which was talked about on another thread, but this is the only available download for it, as of yet. Does this mean that a rom download could be released soon, being Android 2.1? http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/prod...7&treeId=37
Guest robot1000 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 I've just received a message from Huawei, which I've posted in the OP
