Guest Gary Crutcher Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 in the JC2/23547 6.5.5 ROM,will you make a real ultra lite rom of it? Just a Lite version for now. Many people want some programs left in, so I will accommodate the majority. Maybe make an ultralite after this lite version.

Guest contable Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Opera was removed. You can install whatever version you like. Good decision to kick out opera and mainmenu. Both can be installed to My Storage by cab. :)
Guest quizesilver Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 no worries, hmm where can i get the cab for it ?
Guest Delvius Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 @GC Good decicion to remove Opera. @quizesilver Opera 10 Main Menu - Looks Chinese but is in English on an English Rom
Guest Gary Crutcher Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Will be build a JC2/23549 ROM instead of a 23547. 23549 is more stable and I like some of the fixes, especially in the system menus. Everything I have tested works well. May take a 1-2 days as I have a bug to work out, but should be worth the wait.
Guest speedfrog Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 in the ultra lite rom can you remove all samsung programs?
Guest Gary Crutcher Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 in the ultra lite rom can you remove all samsung programs? I'll try, but some things I like.
Guest dande Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Hi Gary, I have noticed that when I switched on landscape the menu is only three rows in the middle instead 6 or so. I mention that to be fixed in your new release. :) Thank you very much Hi Gary, Another issue I have found (and some others too see link) is Chinese character in sent folder of sms on every sms I have sent. see link.. Please do you Rom as you like. Don't make them totally naked from Samsung apps. You balance it's good for the majority of users. Now my personal opinion is that I would not transform a device into HTC or iphone or anything else. If I wanted one, I would have bought the original. I choose O2 and keep O2 or change only into something new. Thanks for your wonderful job.
Guest Ryan Y Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 We want the roms to be naked, that's the reason for cooking - so we can customize ourselves! I believe most of the samsung app cabs are available... If you read carefully on the first page of the most cookers writes "kept application that I like" which means each cooker has it's own taste about what he keeps and what he considers crap or unnecessary. Thus his roms have his "flavor" Otherwise one cooker would be enough to produce one naked version of every new version and us adding apps according our taste. That's my point of view. The most difficult thing for a chef to do is please everyone. With that said, I try to find that balance of removing a lot of things I don't think people use very often with leaving things in they do use. I have left some things in that I don't use because many people have requested they be left in. That's ok. I still use the same ROMs I post on MoDaCo. I can't please everyone. There are cabs available for things I have left out. If I take too much out, then instead of just restoring your personal programs and info, you will be spending time installing cabs then have to restore your personal programs and info. I hope you understand how difficult this is to choose which programs to remove and which ones to keep. I try to find that happy medium for everyone. :)

I understand that the ROMs you cook are those of your flavour and needs. There's a bit of confusion here because your ROM is termed as "Ultralite". Coming from XDA-developers, Ultralite in most, if not all, instances, refers to ROMs that are stripped to the bare minimum, i.e. no carrier or brand customisation and software, just pure Windows Mobile. It may be better to just term your second ROM as "Liter" or something to mitigate the confusion and manage the other users' expectations. I totally respect your work and in fact, I'm looking forward to your JC2 ROM! Thanks! Edited March 22, 2010 by emperorben

Eg tmail is way less laggy and easier to send smses than samsung sms.

Eg tmail is way less laggy and easier to send smses than samsung sms. Don't forget that most of us compromise the usability and the functionality for the look and the general appearance. tmail you mention is old and looks older. Similar WM dialer compared with samsung's dialer which even takes 10 mb of RAM but the first looks old and no video. And another issue is that in some cases some apps in cabs do not work after they are have been removed from the original due to missing parts (registry etc). Anyway, personally, I am happy with any quantity of remaining apps in rom. :) I just want to point, to leave some space to chefs to cook their "flavors" in their ROMs.
