Hello

Got I8000 with I8000NXXII9 rom.

TOMTOM refuses to lock gps at all after IGO8 is used and closed.

Soft reset solves the problem until IGO8 is used.

Anyone seen this annoyance? Please help

I had this problem a while ago and found out that the reason was in the configuration of the device driver for gps. If it is configured as 'Virtserial' it won't let any application use GSP until you power off the phone.

First you have to check what you have in the sys.txt for device

I have in mine (left over from the time where I had Omnia I900):

[device]

Type="SGH-i900"

Then you have to find a configuration file for this device in data.zip. When you open this file and go to config\devices folder you will find a lot of ini files.

For the device I have in my sys.txt, the file is SGH-i900.ini.

If you open the file you will probably see this:

[gps]

source="virtserial"

You can delete this line and replace it with it with whatever my gps is configured for:

[gps]

baud="4800"

port="7"

Edited sys.txt and data zip

It improved IGO8 reception with no luck with TT following.

Did some experiments and noticed that IGO8 leaves activesync open when shutting down.

Killed it and restarted TT to lock OK!!! :D

Still needs checking to verify consistent results.

For now, how can the activesync be disabled from being opened by IGO8? :P

I haven't been using TomTom because there were always problems with running it without using gpsproxy or other applications. The problem that you described, I had when I tried using Garmin after using IGO8 - and removing 'virtserial' fixed the problem.

Could you post you gt-i8000.ini file I don't have it in my data.zip. It's probably not different from i900 I am using but there are some other settings that I would like to have a look at.

With active sync I am not sure why IGO would be using it? Maybe it is something in the XTRA settings? I don't have selected in my XTRA settings "Download automatically XTRA data when connected to PC via ActiveSync"

Did change the baud to 9600.

As for the XTRA server, I have not activated it.

Not sure either why IGO needs the AS.

Trying to disable it by using a fake server and schedule it to manual.

I tried just now IGO I have and it doesn't start Active sync on my phone.

Frustrated :P

Cannot prevent activesync from starting randomly.

Fake server did not solve it.

How can you know what triggers it? Have I got a worm?

AS is not in the task manager list before Igo starts and appears after closure so I guess it is not TT.

Did find other cases of AS up though.

I am just not sure why Active sync would anything to do with GPS.

I started Active Sync, then I started IGO8. I closed IGO8 and then I started Garmin Mobile XT. And didn't have any problems with GPS although Active Sync was in Task Manager.

I have installed TT v7.917.9186 and have been switching a few times between TT, IGO8 and GarminXT and I don't have any problems with GPS, I get GPS fix in every application. Active Sync is shown in Task Manager as well.

Before you do the hard reset, one more question. I just realized that from your first post you wrote that you can't get a fix in TT after running IGO. Do you get a message on the bottom "No GPS device" or do you have GPS detected but can't get a fix? Do you have any Satellites found?

When TT is started, GPS is detected, satellites found with "poor gps reception".

Usually no bars will arise. Even if one will, it will hang without change in its gain.

Application remains active.

Will test with the XTRA enabled too. THX

Update: XTRA did not change.

Even succeeded to disable activesync using SKTools notification. Did not help.

TT locks only after soft reset as long as IGO will not start.
