internet without wi-fi?

I have an HTC Legend (on contract) for about 2 weeks now. And the thing is I don't have internet on my plan. I am (well obviously) green about Android because its my first phone with that OS. I had WM before (Tilt2 and Pure).

How to get internet connection without using wi-fi?

on WM you just had to connect your phone to pc through AS and you could use internet from the laptop or pc.

Is there any similar way on android?

btw. My Legend is rooted and Im using r2-Modaco-customrom from Paul.

Not to my knowledge.

Why not just by a USB dongle and use WiFi.

They come small and cheap.

I imagine this could be done somehow using connection sharing (wired) and bridging it in Windows, but as there is no app for that you'd have to use adb and at least bridge interfaces on the device too (if possible).

If you really need that I could have a look into it, but I doubt I can be of any help, given the fact that I don't use Windows at all.

Edit: Out of curiosity I just tried to use brctl on my Legend which doesn't seem to be there (brctl: SIOCGIFBR: Package not installed). Could be a lot of work.
