A2SD+ does not only move the apps to the SD but also the dalvik-cache, which gives you more space for /data. If you have a fast sd card (class 6) and need the space move the cache to SD (use A2SD+) , if you don't or have a slow sd card leave it... as the sd card is normally (always?) slower than internal memory you will face performance slowdowns.

Btw regarding the kernel, you can use any "android 2.1 kernel" you want, e.g if you need tun device support (for openvpn) or BFS,..whatever just get em from other roms (e.g cronos) or build your own with the leaked kernel sources. If somebody needs it, I have added an update.zip for openvpn (you need a non stock kernel with tun support!!)

r4 b3

-flashed without wiping, got the repeating bootscreen.

-wiped everything and partitioned sd to ext3

BAM! it worked...now to explore and see if I'll keep this or go back to 3.2

Cheers to Paul!

Edit 1: So far the phone has frozen twice (that's right, frozen, Windows style). Don't know why, maybe it's because Sense has been FC-ing.

Edit 2: Very low memory size on average compared to 3.2. I'm hovering at around 40 megs with all nonessential apps closed.

Edit 3: This thing moves fast! Also, the battery has been holding at 100%, not something that 3.2 could have pulled off.

OUCH! MoDaCo is on the top! :) THE BEST ROM around now! I especially like that you (Paul) want to keep the Official "feeling" leaving, for example, the stock kernel untouched! Instead many other devs had the "good" idea to do some "tweaks" in their kernel! With the result that something force closes or doesn't work at all from scratch! :)

I gotta say so myself, you just keep doing it...

Had some problems with spotify on "official" ROM - came to yours, stuttering when screen was off was completely gone.

Can't wait to see all the other stuff thats coming down the road! :-)

Hi,

@Paul

All seem OK form me int this ROM but

I've an issue with Juicedefender (utlimate) :

APN are never disabled

Note that Juice does works fine with Official HTC 2.1 (3.31.751.1 Chungwa Taiwan) i cooked with online kitchen.

I tried with an without a2SD, the problem is the same.

I can see messages in the log : enable apn, disable apn etc.. but apn always remains enables

It seems wifi enable and disable works.

EDIT : Found the problem : apn type didn'twork with juice defender :

replaced default.supl,mms by default

Baked without a2sd and without sense apps (except for rosie, world clock, calculator and voice recorder)

After using it for almost a day, the only problem I encounter is the occasional FC of com.htc.bgp - doesnt seem to be really realed to a specific activity I'm doing.

Other than that, it feels real smooth and fast.

My experience updating from MCR 3.2....

ROM baked with A2SD+ and SenseUI, minus all the HTC social networking apps, Teeter and Mail, and with a few custom ingredients added. Still using baseband 63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08 on an Orange network-locked handset.

Full wipe (inc ext and Dalvik) followed by flashing ROM = zero issues.

Mobile network and wi-fi are both functioning well.

No FCs at all.

I restored apps via Titanium Backup and everything works as expected.

Updates installed via Market with no problems.

Great work, Paul. It's been worth the long wait! :)

Yesterday I bakes and installed a new ROM r4 build 3.

At first I was stuck on a bootloop bu realized my SD card was partitioned using ext4 and FAT32. I did a backup on my computer re-partitioned the sd card using ext2, wiped and re-flashed. Everything worked well this way.

Maybe some other people are having trouble with this, my problem was the ext4 partition. Now that it's been replaced by ext2 I'm enjoying this nice rom :) thanks Paul !

Paul,

Is your Apps2SD compatible with Amon-Ra-1.6.2 format standards? Or do I have to format the card in Linux.

The reason I'm asking this is the fact that I thought Amon-Ra formats the card differently. 1st partition is SWAP, 2nd is Ext2, 3rd is FAT32.

Your method of formatting is: 1st partition FAT32, 2nd is Ext2.

Sorted my GPS problem out from earlier in the thread...

As suggested, turned GPS on and then switched phone off and back on again... didn't seem to work.

Left GPS and maps on and went up to bed, by the time I got there it had a fix.... don't know if it was the above or just the room I was in blocking the signal.

Anyway working now.

great rom!everything is working fine!!

the only thing is that i've installed a swype keyboard, but even if i've enabled it,it's not working at all.

i've tried to reinstall,bu nothing happened, and any other kind of keyboard is not working...

by the way,i think is more than acceptable for a pre-release :)

great job Paul

Have you actually chosen Swype as your input method? After enabling it, you need to hold inside a text box and choose Swype from the options that pop up.

Although Amon-Ra asks you for the partitions in the order you stated, it actually applies them in reverse order (well it did on mine anyway).

Ok. So everything should be fine. When the final MCR4 will be released, I will flash it. Now running the non-mcr version of android 2.1.

If I recall, in the recovery menu there is an option to format ext partition.

Looking nice! I was wondering, is this ROM with multi language? Especially Dutch language?
