New to Android - Desire rooting steps confirmation

thanks for the advice h0mer............................... gave it another try today using unrevoked 3.1 and it worked a charm....alas i cant seem to install a rom from the sd card not sure why ......it could be that I.'ve not done the goldcard right , I'll check that tomorrow. After i got the root sorted I re-installed rom manager and tried 2 different roms .dj droid and modaco's r6 both of which aborted and my desire rebooted back to 2.1....so I then downloaded a rom(the defrost one) using rom manager and that works fine, hence my thoughts on the goldcard. Using rom manager with my 2.2 I tried installing the r6 again but that aborted as well. I will now partition the sd card using rom manager and try the r6 again if that doesn't work I'll try and do the goldcard again.............................by the way it feels really good when, after 3 days you finally get it rooted and even better when you realize your phone still works lol

I used unrevoked, but didn't need a goldcard.

Just stuck Paul's ROM on to my card and selected it from recovery (Power + Vol down).

I just rooted using unrevoked3 as well. But when I tried paul's rom from recovery the screen was just stuck at the white htc boot screen. Did u encounter the same problem?? So sad... can't get modaco roms to work.

Yek, try r5 modaco rom which includes flash of new radio!

Thanks. did a wipe and it did the trick. yeah actually the one i was trying to install was the r5 rom. now how come i don't see a2sd+ in the apps. how do i enable it?

You need to partition your sd card it should then work automaticly, doesnt show as an app. Im using setinstalllocation apk as you dont have to partition the sd, but, using app2sd does put more data onto the sd.
