If you go to the post for pauls mcr for 2.1 then in the list of things he's changed it says rooted with super user and a link. The link will take you to the xda forums with a download of a flashable zip that will root the rom. Make sure you download the one for eclair and froyo.

Aaron

Well, before I could get around to trying to root 2.1, I reverted to the latest 1.5 build. This 2.1 proved to be far less stable than it first appeared, and doing anything intensive, resulted in a near standstill.

But I did try to flash the zip for cupcake/donut on my 1.5 rom and got nowhere. It said it was successful, but upon reboot, nothing was there (no su anything). I'd still like to try to figure out how to root my CHT8000 b279 (1.5) ROM so I can tweak at least a few settings to get it to work just a little smoother.

Have you tried the HTC Android Kitchen at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246 ?

You'll need to change the build_boot_img script to change the cmdline used to build the boot image to:

cmd_line="mem=128M console=ttyMSM2,115200n8 androidboot.hardware=qcom console=ttyUSBCONSOLE0 androidboot.console=ttyUSBCONSOLE0" [/codebox]

I'm not sure if the other kitchen options work, but it should be ok to rebuild the boot img (I've used this to rebuild the boot.img myself on the tre 2.1 release)

Thanks for the link. I'll look into this one too. I might not have the requisite minimum skills to get things working, but I'd like to try.

SUCCESS at last! Forget Huawei's CHT8000 2.1 ROM. With a little help from my friends here at MoDaCo, I have a very nice FLB 1.2 mod phone, with all the hardware working, no FC's so far and even including Chinese handwriting via the Huawei IME. Unfortunately there really is a lack of space for apps, but hey, it's amazing it works as well as it does. A big thank you to everyone who helped, especially to Fibblesan for a very nice ROM. :)

Unfortunately there really is a lack of space for apps,...

you may grab clockwork recovery with rom manager to do the partitioning (set swap=0, ext=512)

aftward, run terminal emulator, and type the following

su

a2sd install

that crippled memory card (PQI 8G class2) came with the phone got no problem handling A2SD

should you own any memory cards labeled class4 or above, type in a2sd cachesd to get extra 30~40MB.

i've been using a2sd for a week or so with dalvik cache moved to a 8gig toshiba class 4 bought on PChome.

thought it would slow my apps down, but they went more responsive on the contrary. don't know why

Just downloaded the Venezuela Movilnet ROM and extracted it.

System folder is 110MB

Data contains autorun.iso (drivers)

Added applications to the system: Facebook 1.1.2, Nimbuzz 1.4.1, En Tus Manos (I have no idea what this is at all)

going to take a look at the kernel now.

ROM has the Nexus live wallpaper enabled by default and also provides the Android 2.1 Launcher2.

If I'm right, updating to the Movitel ROM should have upgraded some firmware on your phone. It's quite possible that 3G will now work with a custom rom as long as you don't go back to the t-mobile rom.

After the Movitel ROM i've applied flb1.31v and 3G worked fine!! I think my 3G worked because my mobile is U8220-6 . The only problem is I need configuring my APN's. I'll use this, if no problem I'll use only this ROM. cya!

That's what I thought would happen. TomG said that it's not the rom itself causing the 3G issue but the firmware. Glad there is finally a solution :)

Yes, it has Traditional support. I'll extract the files if you want to add support to any other 2.1 rom?

CHT_input.zip

extract and copy to your SD card and install manually or push them to your phone.

Sorry I am new to this. How can I use this? I have installed this through ASTRO but am not sure how to actually launch and use this? Can someone help me?

If I recall correctly, that zip will not do it. It is missing a few important files.

Try this: Chinese Handwriting

Edit: I killed that link. There is a new version of HanvonCalla IME out (2.4) that adds some features. But I don't want to try to maintain links in two threads. So if you want HC Chinese handwriting IME to add to your current rom, go to the TWeak mod rom thread and find it there in the first post. http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-you-choose-to/

Note: Make a backup first!

This zip file should be installed from recovery (like Clockwork recovery).

I didn't have the time to test it, but it should work well. (My apologies it is doesn't; I'll fix it later.)

If it won't install, it might very well be that you do not have enough space in your /system partition. These files are big, and the UK2.1 partitioning usually does not have enough space left for this. The Tre update partitioning with a UK based rom put on top, will have enough space. If none of that is making sense to you, I'll try to be more helpful later today, but I have to run out now.

Finally, you can have a look here for a few roms with this handwriting already built in: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-you-choose-to/

Good luck.

What is the difference in this ROM?

Can this be flashed in U8230?

It's only for the new U8220 with larger memory. Will not fit on U8230 or Pulse.

OK.

Not even in the U8230 version that has more mem? Like the TMN A1?

Mine has 237226kB of RAM and 192MB of ROM. if I'm not mistaken

Those library files need to be pushed to /system/lib manually.

Did you try to use the .zip file I uploaded? I have used this method to install HanvonCalla a number of times. This avoids "pushing" (needing to know how to use ADB). What I was trying to explain there was that IF it failed to install, it was probably a lack of space. Try it and see if it works for you on some non-Chinese enabled rom.
