please also remember that omnia 2 is the last of the AMOLED with resistive screen.. just this is enough for me to keep with omnia 2.. i dunno for other people but i prefer resistive screen just cos i am used to using my fingernails or pen as stylus.. using the whole thumb to move the capacitive screen is just horrible..

up until JF5 ROMS came about ..... i was almost ready to give up on my O2 and maybe just sell it quickly ..... but the newer ROMs have definitely breathed new life into our O2.

Faster and more stable ..... memory leak seems to be very minimal.

I have not flashed a custom rum but are using the latest 6.5.3 from may/june something (JD3 I think), what JF5 ROM are you using?

Hi Guys ,

I have same kind of thinking now. I'm an IT guy and the other day my boss wants to change his stock O2 with an Iphone 4 .

He liked the O2 , but lately , he was played with his daughter Iphone 3GS and he liked the experience. For him the basic function of a Smartphone are enough.

At the same time he ask me if I want to change also and because I played in the store with Bell Galaxy S on Android , I'll give a try, as I can have both phone for my use :my old O2 and the new Galaxy S .

It will be my first real contact with an Android device. I was wondering if I should wait to see if Bell will update to Froyo or is not any hope about that.

Anyway , I'll get Galaxy S soon and I'll let you guys know about my personal experience.

But I got to give it to samsung, the camera really rocks. I have not found any better on a phone.

Geez man I don't know about that. Are you talking just quality? Or functionality?

I'll say the quality is amazing. I've taken some pretty cool looking shots, and my digital camera is 7mp so my phone is not far behind.

However, as for functionality? Blech, terrible.

The last time my wife and I and friends went out, I took some pictures. Looking through them the next day they were all blurry. All of them. I've got auto-focus off, etc. Sure you're at a club, walking downtown, etc, but it's just sloowwwww to take a picture. Whereas the iPhone is so quick you'll miss the review panel if you blink.

And yes that's on a stock ROM, but that's what's worth comparing. If an iPhone can have a stock ROM that quick, why can't an O2, know what I mean?

exactly what i was thinking, but you have to look at apple releasing only 1 new phone a year. Sammy and HTC release a new phone about every 3 months! Releasing only once a year gives apple plenty of time to work out the bugs and release a quality product... well, besides that whole antenna issue

Because Micro$uck just sux. Grab an Android and feel it.

Do I really need to own an Omnia? Here in Hong Kong, phone shops are even more than 7-11. We can always go in and play the demos everyday. We always have the latest models and widest range of products here.

I've heard too many people hurray after switching over to Android from WM, but never heard one from Android to WM. Face it.

I have, I have full experience trouble shooting and tweaking actual android phones, not just limited store demos.

And why would you hear anyone switching over to winmo when all the hype is either android or iphone? Hype does not exclusively mean quality.

This is something that I don't understand and probably never will...I have used both and I can't find anything better about capacitive screens other then that you need to use ever so slightly less pressure to "swipe" across screens, but at the cost of the ability to use a stylus or whatever object that happens to be in your hand at the time(I use pens, forks/spoons and other random objects more often than my stylus) and if I'm not mistaken durability as capacitive screens believe have a significantly shorter life span...but not everywhere you look are capacitive screens, are they cheaper to make or something?

I'm not sure about cost, but they seem to look 50% better. I'm not even sure why that would be. Maybe it's a placebo effect who knows. But as a somewhat average customer I prefer capacitive.

two words: multi touch.

just imagine being able to pinch to zoom in opera 10: no more having to constantly tap the screen to get a smaller button to register the touch.

...but at the cost of the ability to use a stylus or whatever object that happens to be in your hand at the time

The ability to use a stylus would definitely be nice... but unfortunately, sammy never gave us i8000 users a place to store it (i do know this is a different case with verizon users).

...also, capacative screens use a higher grade of screen material (usually glass), which helps to prevent scratching, a major issue of the omnia II, where its own provided stylus scratched the screen.

well I can't speak for your experience but what i CAN say is that I like android.

but the night before...the night before last night............I crushed a droid 1 users gps with garmin on my O2.

basically I locked and routed to the party fastest.

and his google navigation took him straight through the traffic so he got there 10 minutes after everybody that followed me did..lol.

it was like a commercial.........all he kept saying is "I can't believe you can see purple on your screen"

lol whatever that means

I use invisible shield so for at least 2weeks now ive been scratch free and it does have a lifetime replacement policy and if I ever need to I plan on using it

my only con is the lack of a good case that fits the extended battery.

o yeah droid boys wife was blown away by the fact that the droid incredible can do tvout........I been tvout'n my O2 since I got it

also before the O2 i had a palm pre for 2 days so i have had the chance to experience a capacitive screen. Yes i fell in love with it but after flashing to amdzero's zerostock last night and replacing titanium with easy today launcher this phone is WAAAAAAAAY more responsive than that pre and i dont even miss the pre's screen anymore.

And multi touch for me is not a big deal, but it could just be that the pre's small screen ruined the whole pinch to zoom thing for me

Blackberry users need not be mentioned..lol

If you need navigation software, beware SGS and Wave.

Samsung and broadcom didn't make a good connectin gps chip with phone. I hope, it is a software (driver) problem. if not, say good bye to gps.

We, i8000 owners, at least, able to navigate with whatever navigation software we want. igo8, Garmin, NDrive, etc. etc.

Bleah.. i can do without the multi touch.. pinch to zoom is kind of useless IMO.. i rather be able to use my fingernails than have multi touch.. but then if windows phone 7 only supported multi touch, then i would have that capacitive screen just so that porting windows phone 7 is possible..

And yeah, capacitive screen IS scratch resistant.. But a few dollars for a screen protector would suffice..

Like I told you guys few threads above , I had posibility to switch my O2 with Galaxy S .

After only 2 days of getting use with Android and installed all the application that I need it ( 95% free) ,I feel that I will never look back either.

It's a big difference (at least for me) on experience , no lags , no wi-fi issues , everything is smooth on Galaxy with Android.

I don't know how good will be W7 but for now Android 2.1 (hopefuly we will get 2.2 soon) is the best phone experience.

I was a Windows Mobile fan , but enogh is enough.

Bye

Good for you. It is always a good thing to experience something different. As for me I am stuck wih this WM 6.5/6.5x and I am not ready to give it up yet until I get the value for the money I spent on O2. Like what I did to my old hp ipaq 4700 I will use my O2 until it no longer meets my needs. Maybe then I may consider spending a few bucks for another toy. As a result I have to keep flashing and using my O2.

Don't know where to begin about my Galaxy S. All phones - no matter Android or WinMo or iOS or whatever have problems. No phone is perfect. Everyone finds something they do not like. It's a matter of customizing to your taste.

I like my Galaxy S a lot better than my O2. The one thing that is really great is that any program you download and install from the Android Market, you will get update notifications.

The phone in general is lighter and thinner than the O2 and a much bigger screen (4"). The super-amoled screen is gorgeous! As far as customizations, people are working on them. Fairly easy to install.

If you know anything about linux, the O/S is easy to understand but not as easy to change - most things (apps, etc.) need to be signed. Not a big deal but time consuming.

I have done some customizing on mine - mostly colored icons - but am trying to learn about customizing the O/S since I have a background in working and making O/Ses for FreeBSD (similar to linux).

I think it is worth the move. More and more people are going to android because of the many features and fewer problems compared to Windows. I can actually say I really love this phone compared to my O2.

I still have my O2 which I will be making new ROMs for. I even have my I900.

Customizations are a different story for the android phones, but many people have done a lot of customizations and made them available and have provided easy install scripts (update.zip files). There are fact sheets about customizations.

The phone itself is very easy to work with - many menus that allow you to do most anything. Installing apps is a breeze with the phone showing what features of the phone the app will access so you can decide whether to install or not.

I've had my Galaxy S for about 2 months now. Bottom line - if I had to do it over I would buy the Galaxy S phone again.

Just my 2 cents worth.

What will you say about the battery lives of galaxy S and omnia 2?

Is galaxy's battery consumption better or worse? And how long does it last ?

Battery life really depends on usage. I do not use GPS or Wi-Fi and use Bluetooth very little.

But I do use the Internet a lot and I have to say battery life is acceptable for me.

I cannot compare to the O2 as I did not use the Internet much except for weather updates.

Bottom line: I wish the SGS battery life was better, but it is okay for me.

my girl's cousin with a brand new evo wanted to trade for my omnia 2 saturday. He was trying to play a movie clip off of his youtube mobile app and the buffering was killing him.

I pulled up the same video and mine only stopped to buffer 1 time.

Not really a scientific comparison because at any time my phone also will suffer from bufferitis................im just saying'

Are you still using Android 2.1, have you ever tried 2.2 ?

I've seen Galaxy S in a Turkcell shop in my country, I still think I wish it had a flash led which I use it as a torch

I haven't decided yet but I think I'll wait for Samsung I8520 Beam

I've been using JP3 (froyo 2.2) for about a month. I tried JPC (froyo 2.2) but my marketaccess program would not work.

Have not tried the newest 2.2 beta (JPH).

v2.2 is nice - looking forward to Samsung officially releasing it.

Hi Gary,

Have you noticed the lags ? I've been reading some posts in Galaxy forum, and several of them were related with lags and freezing ..

Never had a problem with freezing. I always apply the lag fixes to make it run faster.

User experience varies. Some say they need a lag fix others say they do not.

If you are using a beta version as I am, I expect a few glitches and hiccups. A lot of people complain about it not being

this or not being that. But, hey, if you are using a beta version...what do you expect?

So far I have been happy with the beta versions I have used and the product in general. Much better than my O2.
