Guest Gary Crutcher Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Have you tried VoIP ? No I haven't. Have no need for it as I do not make/get that many calls.
Guest hotsync Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Do you know if the charger and data cable are the same of i8000 ?
Guest xaznxplaya Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Don't know where to begin about my Galaxy S. All phones - no matter Android or WinMo or iOS or whatever have problems. No phone is perfect. Everyone finds something they do not like. It's a matter of customizing to your taste. I like my Galaxy S a lot better than my O2. The one thing that is really great is that any program you download and install from the Android Market, you will get update notifications. The phone in general is lighter and thinner than the O2 and a much bigger screen (4"). The super-amoled screen is gorgeous! As far as customizations, people are working on them. Fairly easy to install. If you know anything about linux, the O/S is easy to understand but not as easy to change - most things (apps, etc.) need to be signed. Not a big deal but time consuming. I have done some customizing on mine - mostly colored icons - but am trying to learn about customizing the O/S since I have a background in working and making O/Ses for FreeBSD (similar to linux). I think it is worth the move. More and more people are going to android because of the many features and fewer problems compared to Windows. I can actually say I really love this phone compared to my O2. I still have my O2 which I will be making new ROMs for. I even have my I900. Customizations are a different story for the android phones, but many people have done a lot of customizations and made them available and have provided easy install scripts (update.zip files). There are fact sheets about customizations. The phone itself is very easy to work with - many menus that allow you to do most anything. Installing apps is a breeze with the phone showing what features of the phone the app will access so you can decide whether to install or not. I've had my Galaxy S for about 2 months now. Bottom line - if I had to do it over I would buy the Galaxy S phone again. Just my 2 cents worth. I was thinking about getting the Galaxy S as well, only thing that kept me was the lack of flash for the camera x.x
Guest Capt.KKK Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 30s for the samera alone? Gee, brother, let the wrath out or it will kill you in no time. Mine O2 takes 3s for the camera only and slick on other apps as well, obviously cannot compete with the iOS and the Android, they are of different classes but when I text on the train next an iP4, I feel ashame not, cos most iP users, they only listen to their mp3 library or more or less the same set of games, when they text, they need to dig through the full querty while I only swipe through my KB with my nail, no smears on the screen.
Guest Tinta Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) One month after I have bought an Omnia 2 finally I succeeded to sell it.... And now my life is free of anger. What I needed before: - quick and easy access to the phone functions (call, sms writing) - quick and easy calendar access, adding new appointments - quick and easy profile change (having more than 3 profiles..) - nice and responsive UI - sync with Google - fast Internet - PDF reading - working GPS I reached - after flashing the O2 over 100 times with every kind of ROMs - only the last four options. Omnia II has strengths and when you are satisfied with the base OS, than it is for you. But when you want to customize it tou your needs, it really sucks. I don't speak here about the ease of customization but the result you want to reach. Details: Keyboard: The Samsung keyboard is unusable. Resco has better, EzInput worked best for me. Resco isn't free, EzInput needs Sense.. Dialer: I wanted a good dialer. PhonX is good but I wasn't satisfied with it's phonepad but it worked, OK I make a small compromise. For a few dollars.. Calendar: The SPB MS calendar was OK, but when I wanted some more I had to work with WM's one, and that's also not the most straighforward stuff I ever seen, but I could handle it. Profiles: Couldn't find an usable profile switcher. The three profiles which WM has is not enough. GUI: Sense is simply useless. It converts the O2 into a goodlooking, buggy, slow and unusable phone. So it's not for O2. If the people spending months building various Sense ROMs for O2 and the users who try and suck with all of them in their spare time would do anything else, a whole new and fully consistent GUI could be built for this phone, I think.. WM 6.5 is not touch-friendly, so I had to choose 6.5.3. SPB Mobile Shell (not free) is a quite advanced stuff, but customizing it is nearly impossible (to the way I wanted: changing contacts button link in the menubar e.g.). Some guys doing great work making it easier, but these developments are incompatible, so you have to choose and make compromises. Titanium themes can be good but they didn't work bugfree for me. Plus: Notifications and locking (even with S2U2 customized to the death) hardly worked together. Positive: Opera Mobile is OK, I could read books in PDF format with PocketXPDF, syncing my contacts and appointments with Google and the GPS navigation worked, so no problem with this part. Summary: I bought this phone, because I read the forums before, and I have seen a big community doing their efforts making this phone better. Customizing (flashing ROMs) is very easy. So I thought that this phone with that potential and those great people and thousands of apps behind could suit my needs... After all: I had to make so many compromises, that they drove me to sell it. OK, I hadn't tried HTC's WM6 phones with Sense/TF3D which try to hide the OS with their UI, maybe they work. Samsung unfortunately wasn't good in that. Edit (almost forgot): Thank you Modaco - and the guys cooking their ROMs for us tirelessly! Edited December 16, 2010 by Tinta
Guest Astracat_95 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) hi, i am agreed that the O2 are sluggish then the andriod (which phone?). But maybe you will have other opinion if you have tried the HTC HD2, which is way smooth and faster then the O2. so, its not only the OS that are matter, it was also the hardware manufacturere fault.. For now, my next phone would be the Galaxy S which is way superior then my O2.. cheers, I have both the Omnia II and the Galaxy S and even though I use the SGS as my main phone I am reluctant to get rid of my Omnia II mainly because of the custom roms available for it. But the Omnia II is hindered by its 800Mhz cpu compared to the SGS' Hummingbird at 1Ghz. I still like the Omnia II but its Resistive Amoled screen is another thing to get used to if compared to the capacitive screen of the SGS. Don't get me wrong, I HAVE ENJOYED using the Omnia II and flashing numerous custom roms is a great way of learning how to get to know the phones' workings, but I still prefer Android! I had a T-Mo G2 Touch before the Omnia II, but that was too slow for Android, really. Even after rooting it and flashing several different roms I still didn't like the slowness of the G2 Touch(HTC Hero). The one thing I have to point out is purely a software issue, I have always liked the WM 6.5 roms better than the WM 6.5.3 mainly because I like having a close button in the apps. Something I am really missing in Android! :( Edited December 29, 2010 by Astracat_95
