i don´t want to make anyone angry, but may i suggest to the developers to simplify the current situation by making a 'real' beta 2 (containing all the files needed to start from scratch, haret, the o2beta folder etc.) and removing all the stuff that existed before (beta 1, all the updates to that point...). furthermore, i think you should suggest a clean install of this beta 2 to everyone.

yes, this would make people lose their angry bird progresses ;-) but in my opinion, right now the situation seems a little confusing for an efficient development or for helping people. There are people who´ve been using beta one and chose the normal update to beta 2, people that combined beta 1 with beta 2 using linux, people that made a clean install, people that put everything on my storage.....

and from my experience (did the normal update before a clean install) every way of updateing comes with different problems, which makes them very hard to solve

How does one install the beta2 fresh exactly? Replacing the ext2.tar.gz in the original installer worked fine for me, but GPRS wouldn't work (even with the update)...is there something special?

I don´t know about GPS because i haven´t tested it yet. But if you want to make a clean install, my preferred way is this:

1. In WinMo, set the USB connection method to storage card and connect the phone to a PC. Then format the Storage Card with SD Formatter (get it here: http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/) this should get rid of your ext2 Partition :-)

2. Reset the USB connection method to active sync (or my storage) and add all the files from beta 1 to the root of my storage EXCEPT for ext2.tar.gz. and zImage.

These 2 files can be downloaded in the beta 2 package. put the new zimage and o2bfilesys.tar.gz into my storage and rename ob2filesys to ext2.tar.gz. Then just install like you installed the first beta.

I HAVE NOT TESTED THIS - I EXPECT IT WILL WORK, AND DON'T SEE ANY POSSIBLE PROBLEM, BUT AS ALWAYS, TEST AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION

For folks who can't or don't want to do an Ubuntu install...

To do an 'easy' install to SD using the NEW BETA2 files...

1) Open a BETA1 package.

2) Put the o2beta folder, haret.exe and default.txt in the root of your 'My Storage'

3) Open the BETA2 package.

4) Put the zImage and o2b2filesys.tar.gz in the root of your 'My Storage'

5) Rename o2b2filesys.tar.gz to ext2.tar.gz (this is so the 'old' installer will be able to extract the file for you)

[EDIT: Thanks to ult_nrg for testing/feedback, here are confirmed steps for 2D/3D Library install]

6) Download a 2D/3D Library package (these are linked in the thread, I'm using a package by nOObody, recommended by Rapid81) [i will add a link when I go back through the thread]

7) Rename the o2update.tar.gz file to o2b2update.tar.gz (for new auto-update routine) and put it in the root of your 'My Storage'

8) (Where necessary) Clear (on PC), and Format your SD card in the WinMo Samsung Settings

9) Run \My Storage\o2beta\haret.exe

9a) -= haret.exe will boot a linux shell on your device and set-up the partitions on the SD card, wait for device to reboot=-

10) Run \MyStorage\haret.exe

10a) -= haret.exe will boot Android from your SD card and set-up routine will run, wait for Android to start=-

My advice once you've booted for the first time is let the device 'settle down' for maybe a minute (try to keep the screen awake (tap occassionally) just in case), then shut it down and boot again before changing settings/installing apps etc. In theory it shouldn't make a difference, but I (and some others) have found it seems to help.

Good luck!

Rob.

2011-02-10: Bugfix: the init dont allowED the GSM network to get DNS, dalvik vm problems. update it with o2b2update.tar.gz ( for beta2, if you use just the corrected beta, please rename it to o2bupdate.tar.gz)

i have followed the instructions from FactionOne, everything works, but since there is new update for bugfix.how..do i need to follow "for beta2, if you use just the corrected beta, please rename it to o2bupdate.tar.gz"

Doing a fresh install right now, with EGL libraries and Voyteckst's fix already included: let's see where it will get me :P Solidsnake, my I8000 is supposedly an Italian model too, so we'll see whether it's a common problem or you just need more cardboard boxes :D

One thing I noticed, there are no distinctive codes for the hang up and lock button: does that mean we will always be one button short for Android? I was trying to reconfigure everything awaiting the camera driver update...

Hello,

Know testing it for 8 hours.

Instal android on my sd card 2Gig, put the update on Beta 1. Didn't use Beta 2.

Working very well.

-Battery is now on 55%,after doing a lot off stuff=OK

-3G =OK

-Calls stops after 30 sec(use call light,problem sove)

--Download goes very fast,

Everything seems very good, winmo is history.

One question, the camera was not in the update, is that right?

Very good work DEV.

Well, what I did is as belows:

1.fomat my ext3 partion of my storage;

2.In puppy linux, untar the and copy all the contents in o2b2filesys.tar to the ext3 partion;

-At this point, I got information about the two duplicated files:

/modules/xt_mark.ko

/modules/xt_MARK.ko

I just chose "yes".

3.replace the older zImage with the one in o2b2filesys.zip;

4.add the 2D/3D drivers to system/lib/egl;

-Then Android booted OK, but the GPRS/3G didn't work.

5.put the o2b2updat.tar.gz in my storage, after 2 reboots, the GPRS/3G just works as before.

Some issues I noticed are as belows:

-I still get some problem with the HomeSwitcher.

So I highly recommand to remove it as without it we can still set the LaunchPro as default.

-The time messing up is still there.

The hour part is different in Android and WM.And even the hour in Android clock and in the Advanced Task Killer is different.For example, 20:00 in Android clock with 21:00 showing in Advanced Task Killer.

-The available RAM is about 40MB, which is somehow small for a multi-task OS as Android.

Could there be some method to increate it in the furture?

-Calculator doesn't work.

Anyway, the beta2 is much more stable for me and the battery drain seems less sericous.Great thx to all the dev team members and all the people who make our 02droid better and better.

Gents,

I have installed beta2 package along with the last update. I installed this to the internal memory of the phone where I created ext3 partition. everything seems to work pretty OK except ... Android Market. If I try to install anything I receive the message that " sorry there is not enough space available". This is quite weird since this is a fresh install and I have 3 Gb partition for my Android.

Any ideasw hat could be wrong?

Rgds

I don't want to create any polemic too but I agree 100% with you

Different problems need different approaches, wich lead to different solutions and that's the main reason why this topic has so many posts..

I am using android since the first release so I am not having any problems with the updates and stuff, but how about someone that just joined the topic?

This amount of information only makes people get more confused..

I seriously doubt someone reads all 126 pages (and who knows how many tomorrow..) to find out what are the correct files to download and what are the procediments to make this beta work properly with all the updates, I am sure they will find it's easyier to just ask here instead of reading.. :P

And most people are not even aware that the info topic exists..

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about anything related to android development and I think it's awesome that people help each other here, that's why we are here anyway, but the way things are, this is going to get messed very soon and I really didn't wanted to see people getting angry and the topic getting closed again because the same question is being asked over and over again.. :D

So why not simplify and release a beta2 with all beta1+updates and the only thing people would have to do is install 2d/3d drivers

Wouldn't that be more simple and generate less dumb questions and problems?

Just my 2 cents..

Has anyone successfully done a fresh beta2 install and gotten cell data working (with or without the beta2 update)?
