Has anyone successfully done a fresh beta2 install and gotten cell data working (with or without the beta2 update)?

yes i have... did a fresh install and after the installation installed the update with the first boot. After having set up the device, i restarted it and after testing some different APN settings, it now works :-)

What´s is your carrier?

Did you need to install the update before it worked?

nothing to do, sleep of death happen also with sync accunt off (all of 2)

I lost gprs. it was working fine, then I tried to install the GPS fix and this morning my phone can not connect to gprs. It has the edge sign, but no up and down connection.

I have a feeling it might be because of the file sys change (using beta2)

You might then consider buying a new microSD card with better performance (or start again My Storage installation from scratch): I've just finished testing and:

  • Time is correct, well there's still that problem with Windows Mobile and Android reading two different times from the chip, but I solved by tweaking the time zone :P No errors after sleep wakeup, either
  • Sleep is fixed - no errors, no freezes, no nothing, it works beautifully!
  • Memory management is, guess what, even better than WinMo - you never know what you get when getting rid of Samsung crap: after a reboot and after destroying unnecessary services (e.g. Samsung IME and Google Talk) I've got a blazing 75Mb of free mem.
  • Calculator, Home Switcher, LauncherPro and basically everything else is working flawlessly. I haven't tested headphones and radio, but since that's common Android knowledge they can be fixed at a later time by virtually any other coder
  • I've tried in every damn way to bog up the system on first boot to check for flaws or performance decreases: fine, it started lagging, but always on the brink of useability... while the processor churned seven downloads/installs at the same time plus Market update and with 11Mb of RAM left. I'm impressed, Google. Really, I am.
  • Market is flawless - and even auto-updates
  • After setting up my WLAN and downloading XTRA data, I can confirm WIFI and GPS to be in full working order. And yes it's a WEP network, old fashioned Netgear infrastructure :D
  • I haven't tested actual MMS' or navigation, but 3G signal is locked just fine

I have not checked root nor overclocking, I don't need that, for now, but I can tell that somehow the phone now does NOT reboot if you plugged the charger in  Only had a single reboot when I installed the GPU drivers, but that's to be expected.

    Doesn't work:

    • battery monitor - yes, I still CAN NOT see a damn thing about battery usage, why?
    • every face button can still wake up the Droid, I'll have to fix the policies later
And I still wonder if there are separate keycodes for hangup and lock, since I can't seem to be able to separately handle them in qwerty.kl and we'll soon need the camera button...

- battery monitor works fine

- if any key wakes up O2, so it doesn't go sleep. You probably have something installed which prevents sleep (for me it was eg. Data Counter widget)

For buttons - sleep wake up button is supported via kerne, not android config.

My ultimate tuto to good performance in My storage fresh install:

Criate/format both:

2GB FAT32 (primary)-->DISK0

2GB ext3(logical)-->disk

3.5GB unlocated

0.5GB hide partition WM

Plug USB on windows put into DISK0: o2b2filesys.tar.gz (from o2b2filesys.zip), o2bupdate.tar.gz (with 2D/3D libs), new zimage(from o2b2filesys.zip), Haret and default.txt ( change line to"rootdelay=2 root=/dev/mmcblk0p5 init=/init") (from o2beta1024).

Unplug USB- Start ubuntu in VMwarePlayer - Plug USB - Connect to Ubuntu - Open Terminal and comands:

sudo cp /media/DISK0/o2b2filesys.tar.gz /media/disk/

cd /media/disk/

sudo tar xzvf o2b2filesys.tar.gz -C /media/disk

cd

sudo cp /media/DISK0/o2bupdate.tar.gz /media/disk/

cd /media/disk/

sudo tar xzvf o2bupdate.tar.gz -C /media/disk

Unplug USB and run Haret.

Beta2 is much faster than beta 1. Besides cicciosprint mentioned just about two problems, which probably are result of some installed app.

PS. Install it on My Storage.

yes is a little faster, but there are some problems like the sleep of death, or unable to start wlan message (that can't connect to wifi)

Hey guys I've made this ask other time but no answer:

Ok, this is my last answer for You... [Android] for the Omnia 2 info, Specifications, Modifications,Guides, FAQ and more...

Read it whole carefully!

Install procedures:

1. Put all files in beta1024.zip/beta512.zip to where you want install from.

2. if you want to install to "SD card" from "My storage" ignore next 2 steps.

3. copy modified sd.cpio.gz file(the one from this site) in newly created o2beta folder.

4. if you want to install to my storage, create a file named "installinternal" without quotes, all lower case. put it in where you want to install from. Files contents are not important, a simple text file will work, just don't forget deleting the extension.

5. in windows mobile, using a file explorer enter o2beta folder, run haret.exe. Press run in haret window. After that install process will turn off windows mobile. Installer seems stopped on two points. Shrinking partitons and creating new one step, and untar ext2.tar.gz step. Be patience, it supposed to take some time. After untarring step, you should see a kernel panic and restarting in 30 seconds. This is not a problem.

6. After starting windows mobile again, put 2d/3d binaries update (it should be a file named "o2bupdate.tar.gz")in my storage, than enter disk of your opened beta files, there is another haret.exe apart from the one in o2beta folder. This is the file starts Android, you can delete o2beta folder from your phone for disk space.Run haret, and click on run.

7. android will boot for first time. It will take long, for this time only. When Android starts, it will ask for a action, select default action. Other one needs internet connection, doesn't lets skipping and some times even after adding google account it starts over forever.

8. after adding accounts, and setting time, you have first version of android on omniaII project. You can use it, but there is updates with some critical fixes, so keep going.

9. restart your phone with press and hold lockscreen button, and select power off. Than start windows mobile normally.

10. when windows boots up, extract all files from o2droid.zip to "my storage" than start haret again.

11. If you want to use 2g/3g/edge, enter settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > access point names. press cube button, click new APN. Enter your providers settings. after settings, press cube again, click save APN. You should be in same menu, select new created APN. In task bar you will see data symbol ( 3g/E etc ).

this is the correct guide, not the one from that topic.. however i want know: installing in my storage is better than sdcard (no problems?) - my storage will not be formatted (only create a partition like in sdcard, right)?

As always, thanks voyteckst :P However I think I have to meddle a bit with qwerty.kl (which I modified trying to switch the HOME function to "End call" - hence disabling it as a POWER button, I am looking for a way to have search without occupying the CAMERA button!), maybe restoring the default one will do the trick; I was referring to the screen being light up by any key, actual unlocking is still performed by either sliding or the Cube.

As for the battery, I'll double check, but when I select Settings - About Phone - Battery usage I get a black screen.

As for solidsnake, Sandisk cards tend to be sold, even in large retailers, as cheaper fakes, so if I were you I'd check with another card, better if Kingston.

No, You don't need anything. But as I mentioned earlier - some of Your apps can prevent sleeping.

The Wifi is not connecting everytime (sometimes needs 2-3 tries) but when is connected is blowing out the WinMo speeds with a transfer of 1.2 MBytes/s. Really impressive.

And I'm not sure if this is the upper limit because my router is used with 2-3 devices and the max achievable speed is 2.5 Mbytes/s.

With WinMo I was reaching no more than 400 kBytes/s and only if the Performance was @High.

Oh! Sure, and cpuboost (e.g.) have priority about that process and force them to stay down.

Thanks man, I'm learling a lot with masters like you.
