Guest tjeerdos Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 okey i have an question many programs talk about that android must be rooted. does someone know how to do this and if its possible with beta 2. i have android 1024 version on my storage. did that whit ubuntu..... thanks tjeerdos
Guest emptyara Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) I put the SetCPU program and configured it to change from 133 MHz to 800 MHz (so no deep sleep). Since 4h I hadn't any sleep of death or unexpected restart. The battery is draining as fast as before, for the heat - the same. The phone unlocks with no more than twice push on Power on/hang up button. For 3h hard use the battery felt down from 80% to 18%. WiFi enabled all the time. I think roughly all the the problems are coming from the deep sleep or most likely the incapability to do it. maybe i had same battery situation with u.. data 3g turn on only can last 7 hours.. but today, i try set to 266mhz when the screen is off..n also switch 2g connection only.. edited: set to 266mhz while in sleep mode. I full charged and unplugged the phone. I let the phone sleep. after 1 hour with wifi on n set to only use 2g network, my battery reduce from 100 to 73.. :D Edited February 14, 2011 by emptyara

Guest cicciosprint Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Hmm maybe we should start also posting about brands of SD cards? It seems to have quite an impact...

Guest Pete B Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 what is a Dumpstate_sys.log at booting? Look in the issue page for this issue and others http://code.google.com/p/omnia2droid/issues/list

Guest Rapid81 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Hmm maybe we should start also posting about brands of SD cards? It seems to have quite an impact... I used a Kingston 4GB Class 4 SDHC and it's sux. It's overheating at boot and because of this, the Android goes to reeeeaaaallllyyyy slooooooow. :D "Wait" pops up all the time, then after a while, the droid frooze and reboots the phone.

Guest Kapica Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) ..let me point few troubling issues... which may have thought to been fixed :D on BETA 2 - Incorrect clock timings after sleep - i noticed that, when android loads, for a 1-2 sec it shows right time, but then some boot on process messes it up, after i manually set the clock straight, it doesnt mess up :D If APN disabled by a widget, and phone reseted, on next boot gprs wont work, u have to restart like when setting apn data... I came to conclussion, when i unlock the phone with hang up button i never get the sleep death problem... hmm, strangest thing happened now, i rebooted, in android apn settings lost, couldnt disable airplane mode... after restart OK, obviously one time occurrence had some trouble with WI-FI... cant reproduce the situation now, but, sometimes wi-fi wouldnt be turn either on or off, just got stuck somehow.... LOL Just had a sleep death.. Fresh restart, everything looking fine, started market over wifi, screen turned off cause i was typing here , cant wake it now... :) thats all for now.. :) Damn it, another sleep of death... grrr... only thing i can think off, is using of wireless, and enable/disabling it somehow messes it up... btw i do have set wlan advanced never to sleep.. Guest tjeerdos Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 okay i did this in ubuntu i connected usb my storage. then i got disk and disk0 on my desktop. i opened terminal. and typed this: cd /media/disk/system/bin sudo rm -rf su sudo ln -s /media/disk/system/xbin/su su chmod 6755 /media/disk/system/xbin/su sudo asked for password i used the same one that i use to login ubuntu at startup. it gave me no error....... no errors or ok's when doing it. after typing the last line i didn't get any notification i disconnected my phone and start android. and still not rooted. so what am i doing wrong?? i have to do it in ubuntu and the phone in winmo or connect in android greets tjeerdos
Guest mat9v Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) I had an Kingston 16GB Class 2 card and overheating and "Wait..." was a nuisance. So I gave up and bought Sandisk Ultra 4GB Class 6 card. Small as it's only for Android testing (once it's stable I think there will be a permanent way to install it to internal memory) now I have no problems with "Wait...." messages and the system is much more responsive. Sleep of death is still present, mostly when disconnecting from USB charging. I can also report that if the Haret is started when plugged in to the charger, SoD is not a problem. I had to install beta2 few times because for some strange reason after normal shutdown the next boot resulted in Kernel Panic - init not found (and it was without any apps installed just after setting up Gmail account - could it be that restarting while Gmail is synchronizing could result in hosed system?). Great thanks and shouts to devs for how far the project has come. @tjeerdos: the line: sudo ln -s /media/disk/system/xbin/su su will never work because it creates a link relative to ubuntu filesystem - once android is started the link becomes invalid as it points to nonexistant file"su" located at /media/disk/system/xbin/ while in reality the "su" file is in /system/xbin/ that is why you should substitute that command with sudo ln -s ../system/xbin/su su I'm just not sure whether ubuntu will allow you to create a link to nonexistent file since under ubuntu the file "su" is not present it that directory so truly the only way to correctly root Android is doing it from under some Terminal Emulator software (there are many different emulators to download from Market) Edited February 14, 2011 by mat9v

Guest bu11d0g Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) WOW Installing Android on My Storage was the best thing I ever did! :D No more kernel panic, no more slow downloads on wlan, overall speed is much better as well! Guest kyda Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I could never get beta2 to work properly, calculator, screen grab and a few other apps refuse to run. I can now got those apps to work with the following 2d/3d driver update I grabbed the driver package somewhere in this thread and removed some of the stuff that I think does not belong with the driver to make this update. I have also making receiving a few calls with no dropping out after 30s, but this could be just lucky. It is early stage yet, so will see how i go and report back. If anyone is having problems with calculator app, please try this update and let me know if it actually helps or it was just lucky that it got things working after 10 fresh installs :D I recommend you do a fresh install with beta2_1024, and if it does not work well you can always fresh install the original o2bfilesys package with this update. Cheers.
Guest greatwiseone Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Who have sleeping problem, please pay attention in this post: Exactly! I did "2G only" set and my phone got sleep again, 4% last 9 hs. However on reboot the set is lost and I've to do it again. So the radio part seems to be the guilt of behavior this issue. EDIT: OK! This is confirmed, in last two hours I left my phone in sleep just pressing hangup button, and the battery dont drain nothing, 0%. Simply setting "use only 2G network", I have not use GPRS, nor APN I have set. OBS: Here in my city carrier dont have umts only edge, what too confirm theory of permanent 3G scan avoiding sleep. I would like to know how set the system to dont lost 2g only configuration on reboot... I am having trouble replicating what I was able to do earlier with the 2G only configuration...I have tried it a couple of different ways now, but still having problems with "time without a signal" being at 50%, even when the network is supposed to "Use only 2G networks"...
