Guest dgmorland Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) The first cause of battery drain is the turned on GPS after installation. I repeat, the GPS is turned on after a fresh install! Turn off to improve the battery time! Hey, I tested this over the night, (with gps off) and it is still draining much more battery while sleeping than it would on WinMo. From about 50% to 15% in about 10 hours. I have a Galaxy S running Android. People often complain about perceived increased battery drain after upgrading firmware. I am not sure if it is an Android operating system function or a Galaxy S custom software feature but battery levels are learned over time. There is a way to "wipe" the battery stats. After changing firmware it is always recommended that battery stats are wiped and at least two complete discharge from full to empty cycles are completed before verifying how quickly battery is used as the meter can give you incorrect information straight after a change of firmware/kernel. I am not sure if there is an equivalent way to wipe the battery stats in this i8000 version of Android (or how accurate the battery levels actually are in any case). I never really updated the firmware. All i did was replace the old zImage (pre 27/01), which was giving a better battery performance, to the new zImage (27/01 update) and noticed the fall in performance. Nevertheless, i'll give it a try, complete a few cycles, and after that, test the battery while not relying on the reading adroid gives, rather test it until the battery goes from fully charged to dead, and see how long it took.

It is quite possible that the new version really does use more battery so your initial impressions may well be correct (I think zImage is the kernel?). I expect the development focus at the moment is about getting things working rather than battery economy.

Guest Sinistersky Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) the current battery state can be hugely improved...we just need the right optimisations wich we'll hopefully get on 2.2 froyo beta...also...when i turn off my wifi manualy and then starting it again...it says Unable to turn on.... any solutions for this? EDIT: charging now suddenly doesnt work anymore... ;) Edited January 30, 2011 by Sinistersky

Guest Pete B Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Just summarising my thoughts on reinstalling to get Android working again. I should note I had it running smoothly, eventually after a few corrupt sd card installs, on my storage except for the rare case of not waking up, up until the last zImage update when I ran into problems. So I tried a complete reinstall but have had nothing but problems either installed to my storage or sd card. I'm sort of getting sick of reinstalling as I have tried 4 times since trying to reinstall. So here are my plans (knowing most of these steps aren't needed and could be jumped a few steps) Please feel free to comment as I have stopped at the original Android install because I hope this is my last try!!! - Used Ubuntu to create partitions -Uncompressed the ext2.tar.gz to the ext2 partition of my storage -Edited the default.txt on root of my storage fat 32 partition - Ran Android and skipped the setup process. - Shut Android down before it hung as I know the first version was quite unstable Now the steps I haven't done yet and plan on running Android after each step (more particularly after the O2update.tar.gz copying to root) - Over write zImage in root of my storage with second version one (1937kB) - Copy graphics file V1 O2update.tar.gz (1446kB) - Copy graphics file V2 O2update.tar.gz (1571kB) - Copy graphics library file O2update.tar.gz (395kB) (Found graphics library file V2 O2update.tar.gz was unstable for me so did not install 506kB) - Copy zImage V3 recently released O2update.tar.gz (194kB Zimage and 268kB O2update.tar.gz file) - Copy Rapids all in one installer with Launcher Pro renamed to O2update.tar.gz (4038kB) - Copy Rapids vibration fix O2update.tar.gz (5kB) Please let me know your thoughts! I will post up a complete list of procedures (with file links) if I successfully reinstall it again. Its just I had minimal dramas prior to this except for the sd card corruption.
Guest Pete B Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 For those worried about using Ubuntu to do a My Storage install you can run/boot Ubuntu straight from the CD and perform all the steps needed to install Android to my storage. I had dramas getting android to detect the usb hardware when running as a Virtual Machine in win xp. Running/Booting Ubuntu from CD does not alter anything on your computer and has enough drivers to boot and function.
Guest carlospaco Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 just copy the file from Rapid to root of My Storage or SD (depending your did you install ANDROID) Good Luck. I have just installed the new file from Rapid, Livewallpapers work just fine ;). Thank you! By me everyhing works good , but when i put the phone to lockscreen for a couple off minutes it will not come back .is there someone who has the same problem? Sorry for my English Thanks
Guest alexovy Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Anyone meet the problem that After the device sleep, the WLAN disable AUTO, and cannot enable again? yeap...me too...I need to turn off and turn on again the wifi
Guest djsolidsnake86 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 I've disabled the gps, but it's still generating heat. any ideas? (I installed it on my storage) yes, disabling gps from settings isn't the solution
Guest emptyara Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 yeap...me too...I need to turn off and turn on again the wifi had u try to press hang up button or middle button (hexagon) on our omnia..?? it happen occasionally to me.. but its not a big deal for me..
Guest cicciosprint Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Strange, I'm using a Kingston standard 2Gb microSD on an Euro Omnia II and everything is working so smooth it puts WinMo to shame... perhaps the users experiencing technical trouble should also list their phone baseband, O2 model and microSD, for better tracking down the problem... I agree, care to share working ADB drivers? They would be VERY userful! And, does rapid's update also reenable vibration in general or only haptic feedback?

Its just I had minimal dramas prior to this except for the sd card corruption. our method is almost same.. expect I did the partition using Windows7, not Ubuntu.. regarding the partition, am no longer use ext2. currently, I rather use Primary type FAT with 32kb cluster for /disk0 and Logical type EXT3 for /disk..also I did Primary type FAT with 32kb cluster.. apart from that, I just using Rapid's All In One updates.. from my understanding, Rapid's AIO update package already includes those necessary update that we need to run it smoothly.. HOWEVER due this android still in developing stage, there are still some bugs and error occurred. so I guess this is the best 1st public beta they can provide to us.. ;)
Guest djsolidsnake86 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) for now android is stable (not 100% in fact there is sometimes the freeze due to sleep principally) the battery drain fixing and the porting to android 2.2 could help our problems in next releases Edited January 30, 2011 by djsolidsnake86

I had looked in all the o2update files and rapids one seemed to have all the files except the zImage which I will copy over separately. Did you install the original beta, then install rapids file straight away? The only reason I was going to do every step was because it worked before but don't really want to do them all again if it makes no difference. Did you copy any of the newer zImage files over to the root of my storage because Rapids file doesn't contain the zimage file from my understanding? If so which one? The latest one which is 195kB if you only copy the zImage file. I do have some idea what I am doing and have read most of this forum but I'm just not sure why I was doing everything right before and now I go back to do it all again I am running into troubles even though I don't think I am doing anything different.

If thats and battery draining are going to be solve, we will have a great and amazing Omnia. Thanks
Guest soroush0313 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Hello Everyone, I have a question? Could someone please tell me what should I do to have 2d/3d drivers on my phone! I've downloaded latest version from official site but it says there is no 2d/3d driver in this package too! So I want to know what's the latest and also the best driver to download and a little instruction please ;) Thanks a lot!
Guest nelsontan Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 why do i always get this: "Done, Rebooting in 30 secs!" "Kernel Panic - Not syncing - Could not sync init!" "Rebooting in 30 seconds" Yes, why do I get it AFTER it installs the droid on my system??! and what would happen if i used a ext3 partition? im also having this problem... in the end my android system seems to be corrupted... keep getting lots of error and freeze..
Guest voyteckst Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 If anyone want to have rooted android (must have latest update). Just unpack attached file to My Storage and run haret ;-)o2bupdate.zip
Guest mat9v Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 That message only means that after completing installation the reboot command was unsuccessful. Nothing to worry, I had that every time I installed Android and mine is working very well. So it has no bearing on the system AFAIK
Guest aposhtol Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 im also having this problem... in the end my android system seems to be corrupted... keep getting lots of error and freeze.. You should read FAQ on project's page before asking these kind of questions http://code.google.com/p/omnia2droid/wiki/FAQ In my case, when using ext2 I always get file system corruption after a while.. "new su" from last update (27.1.) also corrupts fs on fresh install.
