Guest paw1 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 About "sleep of death" after last update - I found that pressing and holding Cube while pressing HangUp wakes the phone in that situation. Alright will try that out.

Guest FactionOne Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Hi All, I'm just wondering if your experiences might help me figure out the best plan for a reinstall... I had an android install running OK for a few days - I had some little sleep/wake-up (inc. call going dead). I decided it was time for a fresh install; but making a plan for installation and more importantly, the updates/patches, has been tricky. There have been a couple of 'all in one' update packs posted to this thread - first of all I (optimistically) tried these, unfortunately they didn't work so well for me - I got either panic/halt/freeze on boot-up, or corrupted graphics (and freeze) when the GUI tried to start. So, I tried hand-picking updates and the way they are installed; but still had some problems actually; so... At the moment... I have installed ONLY the basic beta512.zip package; so far no updates. I was thinking I would proceed like this: (all updates to be performed by the 'automatic' o2update method (hopefully!)). 1) 2D/3D libraries (linked in Page 1 - 1446Kb filesize) (Reboot) 2) Sleep-fixed zImage (19/01/2001) (Reboot) 3) 27/01/11 update package (Reboot) 4) 31/01/11 update package (Reboot) ...Does that sound like a good plan? I was thinking I could maybe miss-out (2) and (3); but I tried that and it didn't seem to work very well. How many users have Android running from SD without sleep-of-death / call-drop problems? - Or are you ALL installed in My Storage for best results? If you do have a good install on SD (or even in My Storage); which updates/patches have you installed, and in what order? I am VERY grateful for any suggestions/advice you can post - I think selecting updates/patches and thinking carefully about how and when they are installed makes a big difference to how the beta runs; maybe we can figure out the best way to solve some of the more common problems... Thanks, Rob.
Guest dufresne Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 can be found here -> http://forum.samdroid.net/f28/ eh... it,s hard to find the right post which contain the 3d patch, even that i have looked for the patch over 6 pages in that forum. how terrible my english is!

The other scores are the same we usually get. Bye. oooh okay, I use an 2gb sd card which I had for like 5 years. I bought it for my samsung d900i at that time. The patches I used was the all-in-one update patch from Rapid81. That's the only patch I used. I do not know what class the SD card is I installed the 2011-01-18 beta1024.zip + the all in one update patch from rapid81 I have never gained an error on booting the system up, nor a system failure. Everything goes smooth and all the games I tried (2D) were running mindblowing fast! 3D games without anti aliasing goes also well. Asphalt 5 has only white textures but the gameplay is at around 5-8fps (even without perfect 3d drivers this is amazing!) That's about it I think No sleep patch or blablabla just the things I mentioned. Running from SD card gives no errors, running from storage is slower for me and gives lots of errors at start-up @ FactionOne I got NO sleep of death problems, still didn't try the call thing out. Guest actionboyCZ Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 I'm looking forward to working sensors ;)
Guest slmz Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 13.Turn of the VMWare Plater & Ubuntu, plug the USB with the phone to PC again and edit the line: Set CMDLINE "rootdelay=2 root=/dev/mmcblk1p2 init=/init" to this: Set CMDLINE "rootdelay=2 root=/dev/mmcblk0p5 init=/init"[/b and save it (EDIT: if you get kernel panic you can try mmcblk0p6 ,or mmcblk0p2 if you have a ext3 partition) I had I lot of problems to reach a right way to install Android in MyStorage, so for who can interest, its a feedback: The size of partition must be not so small nor so big, I reach best way, 5GB for Fat 32, 3GB for ext2 The comand line that work for me was "rootdelay=2 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 init=/init" (and my partition is ext2, so different to the tutorial) In use actualy my phone is fast, but some times its get freeze or reboot by it self, I think its because my version of samsung firmware (JD1) is different of Devs version, in my guest only. Happier that pigs in the waste, I waiting for more updates. Thanks for Devs.

Thanks for the info! So, just to be clear, you're not using the 31/01 GSM data update? I'll install Rapid81's all-in-one update now and see how it goes; if that's all OK I might try to apply the 31/01 patch afterwards. Will report back... Thanks again, Rob.

Guest Rapid81 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) ADB Installation and usage tutorial Step 1 First af all, you need to set the ports under Android. To do that, write this to the phone: *#7284# Then you need to select the followings: UART -> Modem USB -> PDA After this, go to the Settings\Applications\Development and check the USB Debugging if it not checked already. Step 2: Download the Android SDK from here. Install (if you downloaded the installer) or unzip to a location where you'll easly found it. For example C:\android-sdk-windows. Step 3: Download Samsung KIES. Install it. It contains 2 of the 3 necessary drivers. Step 4: Download the SamsungADB.zip and unzip it somewhere, where you'll easly found it. Step 5: If the Android did not went to sleep after it started, then unplug from USB (if it plugged) and put to sleep with the Hangup button. After that, plug onto the USB. The Windows will install 2 of the 3 drivers automatically. The 3rd one will not be found. This will be the ADB driver. Go to the Device Manager and browse the driver what you extracted from the SamsungADB.zip. Choose one of the followings: Samsung Android Composite ADB Interface or ADB testing interface and install it. If the Windows ask for a confirmation to install a not trusted driver, then say yes. Step 6: Press Windows+R and type into "cmd". In the upcoming windows, navigate to the unzipped or installed Android SDK directory with the following command: For example: "cd c:\android-sdk-windows" In there, navigate to the "platform-tools" directory with this command: "cd platform-tools" Step 7: This is where the party started. ;) Commands you can use:adb devices -> If you see your device here, you did a good job. ;)adb shell -> consoleIn the console:logcat -> List all android events/errorscat /proc/kmsg -> kernel log [*]adb push filename folder -> Send file from Windows to android, to the specified folder [*]adb pull filename -> Receive file from Android to Windows [*]Backup all installed applications (rooting is necessary): [*]tar czvf /storage/App_backup.tzg /data/app* -> Backup [*]tar xzvf /storage/App_backup.tzg -> Restore Edited February 5, 2011 by Rapid81

Will report back... I am not using the 31-01 update OK, I installed Rapid81's all-in-one update (without TouchWiz, with Launcher Pro & Home Switcher) from THIS post. (Just in case other readers are wondering, my method was: connect phone (in WinMo - Mass Storage for My Storage) to PC and copy the file to root of my storage, (safely) disconnect the phone from the pc and boot Android. Once it has booted to the GUI, leave it for 1 minute (to finish booting/settle down), then unlock the keys and shutdown the phone. Boot-up again before playing with anything) So, It's running a little quicker than my previous installation; and so far it seems that there are no problems with sleep or calls now. I have the phone running on battery power only; I left it at the home screen and it went to sleep; I left it alone for 10 minutes and pressed the unlock button; the screen woke-up almost immediately (approximately 1 second). I tried again, locking the screen by the button; again, 10 minutes later the screen woke up very quickly. Then I tested a call - I made a 5 minute call, letting the device turn the screen off when it wanted to, and also forcing it by using the lock/unlock button; again, no problem - the call continued in the earpiece, and there was no problem waking the screen during the call. One thing I have noticed is that the WiFi icon doesn't show signal strength even though Rapid81's update includes the 27/01 files. ...BUT that's really not important; it's far better to have good performance with sleep/wake and calls. I'm going to attempt to apply the 31/01 now... Rob. Edited February 5, 2011 by FactionOne

Guest givesoft Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 how come my I/O mark is so low, it is ony 239. I installed in my storage with beta1024 version and Rapid81 last all in one update.
Guest FactionOne Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Okay, that's great to hear ;) Please tell me after you installed the 31/01 files if it is better thank you OK, I installed the 31/01 update; and everything seemed to be good (sleep/wake OK, didn't get to try calls) - at first... So, I did as before, put the update files in place, then booted android. It got into the GUI without a problem. I left it for a minute to let it settle down, then turned the handset off to make sure it'd gone through one full power cycle after the update before I played with anything. Next boot was fine too; I was able to set-up an APN and the connection started. Next I went to switch-off the WiFi; but when I did the status line showed "Disabling WiFi..." (or however it is worded); but it did not fully disable. I left it a while but there was no change, so I shut the handset down (still able to do via menu). There was a hang on the next boot - at the 'android' animated splash screen (while starting GUI). I waited 5 minutes (just in case), but no change. I had to pull the battery. I put it back in and headed back to android... Android booted-up fine this time, but when I was trying to use the Browser or Market, they were both unable to make network connections - the icon showed there was an EDGE data connection active. I kept trying with no luck, and WiFi seemed to be struggling too. As I was attempting to use the internet, the device hung in an app (browser or market); and I had to remove the battery. I tried again but within a few minutes it'd hung on the lock-screen; battery out to get back to WinMo. I'm going to start reinstalling again now, to see if the problem is persistent. Best regards, Rob.
Guest xcavs Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 how'd you get the 2.2 theme? i know youre an awesome theme maker...could you please share ? I think its only using home switcher and launcher pro, set to froyo dock background in appearance setting. ;) Work faster to me (instal on my storage), hopes the fix for battery.
