Guest betamale Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 I am feeling really stupid but I am not able to install any more! I was able to install it a couple of times in the first week. Now since more than a week it doesn't work anymore! First of all I use MiniTool to create my partitions 'disk' (fat or fat32, 1GB) and 'disk0' (ext2 or ext3, 2 GB) on MyStorage and ubuntu to copy and untar the ext2.tar.gz Issue #1: the 'disk' partition ALWAYS shows in ubuntu as 'disk_' (no matter if I do a ext2 or ext3) and I can only copy to disk_ (it seems to me no 'disk' partition exists even so I label it as 'disk' in MiniTool) The 'disk0' partition shows as 'DISK0' and can only be used as 'DISK0' (thats not a problem its just strange) Issue #2: No matter which combination of fat/fat32 for disk0 and ext2/ext3 for disk I choose and what I put in the default file (root=/dev/mmcblk0p5 or root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 or root=/dev/mmcblk0p6) i get a KERNEL panic error every time I try to install android. I am getting frustrated and going NUTS! Anybody has a similar experience? Anybody got a suggestion? It seems to me than nobody of you guys seems to have an installation issue any more!!??

I am getting frustrated and going NUTS! Anybody has a similar experience? Anybody got a suggestion? It seems to me than nobody of you guys seems to have an installation issue any more!!?? I''ve had ALL of those problems, and have given up numerous times, but started afresh the next day. Regarding the "disk" partition showing up as "disk_", i skirted the problem by naming it "disk1". I've also faced the panic problem once, cannot really put my finger on the problem, just try the combinations that worked for me : 1020 MB DISK0 FAT32 partition. remaining MB disk1 ext2 partition ( use mmcblk0p5 or mmcblk0p2 ) OR ext3 (use mmcblk0p5) Thats just what worked for me. Keep trying all combinations you can, thats what i did. Recheck which zImage and o2bupdate files you've been using or dwd new once.
Guest TRoN_1 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 It seems to me from what I am reading that I/O score is higher when SD is used(over 1000), as apposed to My Storage(under 300). Does anyone concur?

Guest vibekururu Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Sorry for asking, when i install the original image on the internal memory (mystorage) using a ext2 filesystem, android works fine. When i update, android stops asking for SIM pin, therefor the phone doesn't work. Any ideas, fixs, etc?
Guest FactionOne Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 I'm going to start reinstalling again now, to see if the problem is persistent Update: It seems problems persist for me when using the 31/01 files; a brief summary of my install and results below, Clear SD Card (and setup files from My Storage), unpack fresh setup files and run. Paritioning/extract goes OK. Boot android with no updates - functional but because no updates, clunky. Power off. Add files from Rapid81's all-in-one, boot android. Everything fine, power off. I actually booted again with no further updates (just to check) and everything working well. Power off. Add 31/01 update files... 1st Boot (taking update package): Shell portion proceeds fine; android hangs at animated splash screen. 2nd Boot: Hang after last line of shell portion (IPC transfer start) - splash screen never appeared - no echo from hardware keys in shell. 3rd Boot: Android boots OK, able to set-up GSM data APN; internet traffic (market) working fine. Using the handset seems a little 'clunky' - one or two wait (for process) prompts when waking/unlocking 4th Boot: Hang at animated splash screen (as first boot). I'm going to keep messing about with setup combinations to see if I can get the GSM data updates working on my device (and will report if I do), but I'm grateful for suggestions if anyone has any ideas! Thanks, Rob.
Guest raheeg Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 I have taken the latest build and the updates from Andrion Omnia Info thread and I have installed those on my omnia. I have some problems/questions: 1) Why do you need SD card? It installs OS on SD card? I guess yes. Then if I don't have SD card then can I install it on My Storage - again yes, I presume but why is the procedure so complicated? 2) How do I sync up my Outlook contact WITHOUT syncing them up with google? I have tried QTADB, Droid Explorer but none works. None of them can detect my device on win 7. Do you know of any correct USB driver? 3) My phone heats up after using android for sometime. Any idea why? Bad SD card? 4) If I power off from Android and then start again via WinMo->Haret on My Storage - does it restore the settings I made in the phone (like date? wallpaper change? etc? 5) How do I create playlists in android? In WinMo Omnia, the player updates library? How do i do this in android? Guys, please answer. I have read almost all the posts in this thread but have not got satisfactory answers! And hence this post. ;) Btw the more I use Android, the more I have started liking it. So I want to make it work on my phone! ;)

Hi, I've Issue#2 every time I do a fresh installation from SD to My Storage or other way round, my method is to delete all partitiona and re-partition My storage again in to one partition, unplug from PC and let the phone to detect My Storage, then plug back the phone to the PC and delete all partition and re-partition to Fat and ext2 partition. After this then I untar the files to ext2 partition. I think when you do the partitioning , some hidden file is in My Storage, so when you re-install, it can't point to the new partition, so you need to re-partiotion everything. Hope this work for you.
Guest LOLOH2 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 OK, I installed the 31/01 update; and everything seemed to be good (sleep/wake OK, didn't get to try calls) - at first... So, I did as before, put the update files in place, then booted android. It got into the GUI without a problem. I left it for a minute to let it settle down, then turned the handset off to make sure it'd gone through one full power cycle after the update before I played with anything. Next boot was fine too; I was able to set-up an APN and the connection started. Next I went to switch-off the WiFi; but when I did the status line showed "Disabling WiFi..." (or however it is worded); but it did not fully disable. I left it a while but there was no change, so I shut the handset down (still able to do via menu). There was a hang on the next boot - at the 'android' animated splash screen (while starting GUI). I waited 5 minutes (just in case), but no change. I had to pull the battery. I put it back in and headed back to android... Android booted-up fine this time, but when I was trying to use the Browser or Market, they were both unable to make network connections - the icon showed there was an EDGE data connection active. I kept trying with no luck, and WiFi seemed to be struggling too. As I was attempting to use the internet, the device hung in an app (browser or market); and I had to remove the battery. I tried again but within a few minutes it'd hung on the lock-screen; battery out to get back to WinMo. I'm going to start reinstalling again now, to see if the problem is persistent. Best regards, Rob. I have similar problem, hope dev can check what happen to the 31 Jan updates, when I use the original zImage file ~ 2.1mb and 2d/3d updates and Rapid 2d/3d update. The phone is stable, no wake up problem, no heat problem, battery resonable, , clock slightly out put acceptable (just a few minute), WiFi OK, just that the Data is missing. (used two day without problem). But when I put the 31 Jan zImage file to My Storage and untar the o2bupdate to the ext2 partition in My Storage, problem surfaced and phone unstable, some time hangs, some time can not wake up and phone heats up fast. So I re-install everything and now just using old zImage (2.1mb) file and 2d/3d updates. I just forgo the data at the moment until the next better update found.

Guest FactionOne Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) @raheeg 1) SD card is the way the devs made it - I guess because it's easier to work with while under development - not only can you make changes more easily, but as it's not 100% working just yet, WinMo remains as a fall back. This is only my understanding though. It's complicated to install to My Storage, because that wasn't designed-in; some of the clever folks around here figured it out; sometimes there is no 'easy' way. 2) I can't help you here I'm afraid, I've not tried to sync with any of these methods. I'm fairly sure that in the 100 pages of this thread I've seen quite a few mentions of Windows 7 issues; but I guess you will have seen this too. I don't know if there are any tools that can import comma separated values into android? Maybe that's worth a try - there are a few tools for WinMo which will export contacts as .csv (so you could export from a windows tool to my storage/storage card, and import to android from the same place using an android tool?) 3) OK, here's another one which has definitely been discussed in the thread. A lot of people reported the phone getting warm early in the beta - mainly before the sleep fixes started coming through. I'm having some problems (heat is NOT one of them) with 31/01 updates, but using 27/01 package my phone doesn't get warm enough for me to notice/worry about it. Check which updates you're running? 4) I thought you've got Android installed (because it makes your phone warm)? But yes, settings etc. are saved between sessions - although I will say that the Swype beta I signed-up for doesn't believe my handset is the same device after a reboot; but in terms of your enquiry - settings/wallpapers etc. - they're kept. 5) I don't mean to sound harsh, but I'm not sure making playlists is a very important issue for the OS development/testing thread while the project is beta; but anyway - I'm not sure how to do it (or even if you can) using the standard Android music player; but I recommend you have a look at Zimly and DoubleTwist on the market or appbrain.com - both these players have good playlist support. Guest berkende Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 January 31 update after the installation is easier, but then the screen freezes for 3-4 minutes and remains, the other continues to the same problems

Guest elbee72 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 I hear you man, I have this very same problem with my I8000L (I'm from Argentina). If someone managed to fix this problem, can you point us in the right direction? In what way do I8000 and I8000L differ (on hw base)? B7610 also differs a bit and with current build wifi ,most keys and vibrate don't work. Who has a I8000L which works flawlessly with all supported features? And what about I920? do all features but phonecall work?
