Guest Gonzopolis Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Legend owners that upgraded to Froyo, please share your experience: - Which ROM did you use? - What PROs (advantages) can you tell? - What CONs (disadvantages) can you tell? Thanks! ROM 16/Nov 3.14.161.1 r1 - Stock Froyo ROM I tried to install the custom one but it won't work. Maybe I'd need to wipe the device. PRO * Better market app (e.g. update all) * Wifi tethering * Live wallpapers CON * A2SD doesn't work - my phone reboots when trying to move apps to sd or installing apps which do that by default * Busybox isn't included in the ROM and I haven't managed to install it yet.
Guest TheLegendaryJay Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Stock for now. Pros: Much faster than stock 2.1. New Market A2SD works well and now have over 50mb free space for other apps that can't A2SD. SMS bug reportedly fixed (not checked myself as I lost all texts when reverting to stock 1.32 then OTA'ing. Smoother all round. Wifi signal is much better, so they defo worked on the drivers. Flashlight. Con: No HTCSense.com version of Sense. Not Gingerbread
Guest AtomskRenewal Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) ROM prebacked 16/Nov r4 - MoDaCo Custom Froyo ROM MD5: 14255112ddc28bcb72da529c8c2a1563 PROS: Harder better faster stronger... ...and prettier. CONS: Where the hell is the alarm clock, srsly. Wireless tether not working D: Edited November 21, 2010 by AtomskRenewal
Guest DrDoom Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 With HTC Legend unbranded (Belgium), I had to downgrade to 1.31, then root it and I eventually installed the Froyo "stock rom". Pros: There's some slight eye candy wich is cool, overall the device feels more responsible, but "faster" would not be how I describe it. Live wallpapers are really cool. Useless, but cool. Flashlight is working with the camera's LED. Of course, wifi hotspot and moving apps to SD (A2SD) are two features that are worth an upgrade by themselves. Issues: Yes there's Macromedia Flash, but that's the 'lite' version. Bottomline is that all the sites I use with flash don't work with this version. HTC Sync ain't working anymore. I'm not alone, so I anticipate a fix will come up at some point. Thanks for the guides, the ROMs and everything else provided by this community.
Guest bennyr99 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 .....Of course wifi hotspot and moving apps to SD (A2SD) are two features that are worth an upgrade by themselves. Hi DrDoom, I installed the Froyo STOCK of Modaco (which is great, I owe the community a list of PROs and CONs :-) My question: what needs to be done to move Apps to SD (A2SD) ? Thanks !

Thanks ! You move apps to the SD card from Settings > Applications > Manage applications. Press on an app in any of the first three tabs, and then tap the Move to SD card button to make the transfer. Not working for all apps.

I see some Apps that have "Move to SD" Button, but the button is not active (can't click it). Do I need to do some partition in the SD? Edit: just figured it out: No partition is needed! Just download "App 2 SD" from Market (I assume it's available on Market just for 2.2 devices) - and problem is solved! It shows you what Apps are able to move from Phone Mem to SD Card, and let's you preform the moves. Life is beutiful !! B) Edited November 23, 2010 by bennyr99
Guest makaze Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Using: MoDaCo Custom Froyo ROM for the HTC Legend with Online Kitchen 16-Nov Pros: Faster than 2.1 Better app versions (gmail, gremote, etc) Wifi Hotspot (works perfectly) New Radio image - Better WiFi range, 3G seems to be better also Live wallpapers Compass sensor much better and with almost no magnetic field disturbances Flashlight app by HTC Cons: Slower than CyanogenMod 6 for Legend HTC Sense or other ROM stuff takes so much memory (usually only 54MB available) Stuffed original ROM (recommend making yourown custom ROM on Modaco to remove unecessary stuff)
Guest Dr.Romca Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Legend owners that upgraded to Froyo, please share your experience: I have upgraded my preious rooted ROM by the r1 MoDaCo release. It works like a charm really, some minor things, but that is OK. Now for the list: PROs: - Much faster, seriously (with live wallpaper off) - WiFi Hotspot, A2SD! - New market is great. - Voice search, voice SMS - even in Czech works pretty good. - LED flaslight app alraady there - better looks CONs: - I have to check iGO, but so far GPS takes much more time to sync up - NON-live HTC wallpapers are missing (can be loaded from SD, so not a big issue) - I could'n find the clock app for some time, but now I have it, it seems there is a little bug, cause I couldn't find it for some time. - I think the battery span is a bit shorter, but it would have to be checked - I play with the new android a lot. 2 makaze: I don't see how a new radio image could affect the WiFi reception, WiFi is on a different chip in Legend...just fyi edit: GPS issue solved - see: My other post Edited November 28, 2010 by Dr.Romca
Guest Spook Tooth Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Subjectively, my experience with Voda UK Froyo OTA update: Pros Live wallpaper A2SD (though full support depends on app developer of course) Flash lite/not full version - mixed usefulness since it doesn't support BBC iplayer and other useful content Menu rejigged - sound and display settings now separate though this is mixed blessing, some settings are now harder to find (where has back up private settings to SD card gone? for instance) Access to more apps, market has update all function (which often works), Android market is still a bit naff though Accessibility feature now works More stuff built in - voice search, more uptodate maps etc Cons More junk like HTC 'Stocks' app that I cannot get rid of and which runs all the time despite the fact I've never used the sodding thing RSS reader, news widget runs all the time and seems to use up a fair bit of memory Less memory available - you must restart after the update to reclaim a fair chunk of it Free ram memory is between 100 - 145MBs typical (depending on running tasks) whereas it was closer to 145-200MBs free ram on 2.1 Seems to crash more often/lots of force closes and incompatibility issues Phone app will close from time to time (takes you back to SIM unlock screen)
Guest DrDoom Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 On the top of what I've said before about my experience with MoDaCo Stock 2.2 r1: -- Yes there's less memory available than with 2.1, but since applications can be moved to SD, it's better overall. -- When connecting / disconnecting / using Bluetooth the phone sometimes hangs. Black screen, no reaction on any of the buttons, in a word ... dead. Only solution is to remove the battery to get it started again. Very annoying since you don't know notice until you actually need it. I found out that this problem happens with 2.2 (it did not with 2.1), and it happens only when there's Bluetooth involved. Unfortunately, I was not able to establish a reproducible path to failure, but I'm working on it! Doc.

Hey Doc :-) Ï use bluetooth all the time and I did not have any issue - so far (I run this ROM for about 2 weeks now)...Maybe there is more to it... About the free space: you can allways delete those apps like stocks,Friendstream,..no one uses anyway. I didn't find a way to get rid of the navigation tho...
Guest amacrobie Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Since doing OTA update of the wifes legend, the radio appears to be borked. Is unbranded wwe so going to try flash back to an earlier version.
