Guest removed-14 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 very nice, what widgets? are you using? Thanks, widgets are: * Animated Analogue Clock (Free) * Extended Controls (Paid for) * Retro clock / date (Free) * Mini info widget (Free) * News and weather (Part of Modaco ROM) All put together with Launcher Pro.
Guest Sir Gash Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Someone needs to make a nice easy to understand guide on the easy ways to take screenshots. As far as I'm aware, the only confirmed way of taking screenshots on the Vega is to use the Android SDK tools. This is from memory as I'm not on my PC at the moment so it may not be 100%: - Download the Android SDK from HERE - Install/unpack it (it may need to install additional web updates as well) - Once installed, look in the Tools folder for an application called DDMS (e.g. C:\Android-sdk\tools\ddms.exe) Run it, connect to your device and then one of the menu options will be Screen Capture. This is the only way at present to get a working screenshot from the Vega. Hope that helps, I might write up a more detailed guide if I get a chance next week. Also, you will need the correct USB drivers for this to work, I think the ones included with Paul's ROM (which you probably already have installed) will be fine for this.

Is there an easy way to edit a widget created with extended controls?
Guest T4ylor Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Here you go Framework-res.apk Ive downloadsed the framework.apk but the installation keeps failing. Has anyone had this or has anyone installed it ok?
Guest Retrorious Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Ive downloadsed the framework.apk but the installation keeps failing. Has anyone had this or has anyone installed it ok? Did you extract the zip file and put the apk in /system/framework thus overwriting the previous one?
Guest T4ylor Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Did you extract the zip file and put the apk in /system/framework thus overwriting the previous one? I extrated it, moved it in to my Dropbox and downloaded and installed from there. I did have to confirm overwrite which I did and then it said installing before a notifiacton pops up saying installation failed.

This is not a normal apk, you have to put it in /system/framework. Dont "install" it just move it to /system/framework either with adb or with for example root explorer

Guest arad85 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) The /system filesystem is mounted read only which is why the installation failed. If installing it with adb, you'll need to adb remount first (this remounts the /system partition as read/writeable). No idea how to make it read/writeable from the UI though... Thats why I said to do it with eiter adb or root explorer ofcourse you have to remount to rw but he never said he could not copy it so i assumed he knew what he was doing. Sorry.. btw you should never install the apk, i mean dont run it, just copy it So to make everything clear Assuming you have rooted(if you have installed Pauls rom you have) You might want to backup your origonal framework-res.apk 1. Connect your device via adb 2. Extract the zip 3. Push the apk to /system/framework/ (adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/) 4. Reboot (adb reboot) 5. Guest Ter4a Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Some commonly used widgets: I found this thread on XDA (all credits for fliparsenal) Commonly used widgets You can find a nice illustrated list here with QR codes and some pretty good ideas. I just started to work on mine, will post it, when its ready.
Guest Sir Gash Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Here are my updated home screens. The third one is fairly minimal as I normally have some Live Wallpaper that reacts to music (such as 'Many' or 'Spectrum') and just use it for music playback and visuals, at least until Winamp for Android supports AVS or Milkdrop.
Guest Touch Graphite Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I don't care what anyone says, how bad ass do these desktops look compared to 'I like the look of stone walls' iPad.
Guest removed-14 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 @Sir Gash: I'm liking the 16th December! Can we all come?
Guest obb Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Thought I'd make a video What's with the pen ... surely fingers is easier!!! :)
Guest remlap Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) What's with the pen ... surely fingers is easier!!! :) Yeah they are but I still like the pen! :) Edited December 14, 2010 by remlap
Guest travisb Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Right, I'm really baffled how you lot have got such homescreens developed. I bought Launcher Pro, I've read the manual on the forum, and some reviews, but everytime I install a widget on a homescreen that is it, I can't add another. I've added more rows and columns, but nothing. When I resize widgets they are either too small to be useful, or too large. just after some pointers to get started :) Otherwise I'm very happy with my baby and it's MoDaCo Rom
Guest warriorscot Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Generally pretty basic I actually change the wallpaper pretty often but my inner trekkie loves this one best and its the only live wallpaper other than the defaults I have found and actually like. I also tend to hide the notification bar and have it set up to show on swiping the app drawer icon but since I just installed the latest r5 I am still loving the smaller bar so its shown at the moment. Using Launcher Pro and extended controls so I can get a mute button since I remapped my volume controls its really handy.
Guest flyingscotno1 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) Here's my home screen so far after a week or so use... am using Launcher Pro with 8x6 icon grid. Still have a few pics to add - 3 other cats - then decide what to do with the other home screens. Really like the wallpaper, very nice. Edit- just the standard one installed I see.
