I'm with 2.03.405.3 - can I make root without downgrade to v.1.31 or direct go to root?

Yes, you need to downgrade first. Then do the rooting guide. And keep in mind, that you need to have the old HTC Sync 2.0.33 software to complete Step2-Windows.bat in the guide. I lost several hours to find what's the problem with step 2.

After you have 1.31 rooted install ROM Manager and apply the new Froyo ROM from the SD card. The application will ask you to install ClockworkMod Recovery ROM, so answer YES when you start it.

I am currently using MCR/r4 and don't have any problem. You need only to apply manualy your mobile internet settings and MMS settings. I can help you with them if you succeed with the rooting if you are on Mtel.

P.S.> Before you start with the downgrade procedure it's recommended to do a Soft-Reset/Wipe of your device.
