CM7 Nightly Discussion Thread [Old, please use new thread]

It looks like the general consensus is they both reduce akmd2 usage, but neither solve battery life woes. And thanks for the thanks, it's tough work, and I have no idea if i'm really doing it right, if anyone reads anything. But cokpared to the old CM7 thread, this is chugging along nicely.

Also, i'm not gonna spend very long updating this today, it's my birthday  and I really can't be bothered. I hope Nightly 11 works out alright for you guys.

But then again, if nothing comes and enthralls me for the next few hours, i'll have nothing to do but stay around here :)

Happy Birthday!!! :P

Scratch what I wrote about the 250 akmd2 workaround, defcrash just confirmed it worked for him. I'm gonna play with the settings myself to see what's what.

I don't know why anyone thought the akmd2 edit was going to be a magic bullet, that trick has been around for ages and I'm sure if it were the answer then the devs would have realised. For one thing, akmd2 was only showing excessive activity when the phone is awake, i.e. not when we are worried about the battery.

And everyone, please stop posting your 'battery life findings' over such ludicrous time periods! Battery % remaining is just an estimate , and if you only give it a few hours the estimate is likely to be wildly wrong. Just look how much it changes when you just reboot the phone! The minimum period we should really be considering is a 'night', as it is a period of relatively consistent length, and minimal user interaction. Saying that in the 4 hours since you unplugged your phone has lost 0% is obviously a meaningless piece of data, of no use to anybody.

I agree with that last bit. After 4 hours is a bout the time my battery drop kicks in, as battery usage shows it waking up for about an hour, going to sleep, waking up again half an hour late, etc. the 7 or 8 hours of normal sleep time are the only period it shows when the phone is not in use.

Wow, my sabbatical lasted a while, didn't it

First off happy birthday

Second off +1 on the thanks

I did the 250 mod but didn't post about it here, suspect it's the same with others so perhaps there is more reading of the first posts than is readily apparent

Took my phone off charge at 5am this morning, and now at nearly 2pm its down to 46% already, and people complained about Jap Jelly having bad battery drain.

Tried the N11 about an hour ago, but had the proximity sensor during a test call, so reverted to FLB as I need my Blade fully functional for the day... Later tonight I'll apply the fix present at the fist page of this thread to see how it goes!

Happy Birthday Victor / Dan!

Thanks to Rotmann for reminding me about the marketty backup thingummy - had it enabled as it goes and forgot, so all my apps reinstalled themselves automatically (over 3G - luckily there were only about 20mb worth)

I find my battery usage acceptable, although varied.

In standby, battery use is "ok". Today since 09.30 until now 14:04 my phone has used 8% battery. This included 5 app updates, a reboot and some WiFi usage. Pretty good i think!

The other day I got 26hours out of a full charge, also pretty good!

Other days batter just seems to fall off! I do think it's miscalculated somehow. I might have 60%, reboot and have 25%, stick it on charge and it'll shoot back to 60% in minutes.

Also you might have 90% battery, game for 5mins and it'll steadily drop down to 80% or so within minutes. Seems wrong.

I charge my phone every night so i'm not too bothered about faster than normal drain.

Outstanding, I'd say - I've done a lot of rebooting (4 or 5 times) and ROM installation today and have just had to put it on for a recharge - from 100% it dropped to 12%!

Fair enough, this was with a lot of rebooting and backing up, and a good bit of 3g action restoring apps

I suppose I would have been a bit more conservative with it if I was behind enemy lines needing to call down a chopper for evac...

Sorry - was back in 'nam for a minute there

Point is, I agree; power consumption seems pretty non-linear. Some activities between certain charge ranges seem very efficient (so my phone seems to spend a lot of time between 60 and 80%) while between others (particularly 90-100%) power just seems to piss away

Quick questions:

What launcher is everyone using with this rom? I really like Laucherpro mainly because of the calendar widget.. but it runs somewhat slow..

After installing N11 somehow 2 applications were installed without asking me.. i think they were sincronized with my gmail account. But if they were why werent the other one? (n00b question huh?)

Thanks all

Bear in mind that leaving it on charge doesn't keep it at 100% as this harms the battery. Instead it charges to 100% then stops providing power and allows the phone to discharge to ~90% before charging it up again.

That's why when most people take their phones off charge in the morning they drop 10% in 5 minutes.

Just put N11 on and it won't even let me add an account. Try to add my Gmail account to pull down my contacts and it fails and keeps asking me to add an exchange account instead.

I give up with this rom now, back to FLB's R10 which works a dream.

I just mention it cause it was the first time it happend to me since i'm using CM7, the only thing i did was the "akmd2 fix", so for me its obvious that it changed something or else you wouldn't had seen my post...

Until now i've only lost 7%, played 15min+/- of live holdem pro thru 3G (on my lunch break), updated 3 email accounts and my weather widget, yesterday by this time i had way less battery than i have now.

I really don't care if it fix's anything or not, i really don't care if your phone drains more power or not, just thought in posting my experience nothing else.

btw, in a power consuming between 2%-3% per hour, 4 hours "still counts" (in my opinion), or else in a 8h sleep i wake up with less 20% (for ex.) and should i think, "oh its just an estimate, i may have less 30% or 40%"? Since a 4h gap cant be any acurate when having a 2%-3%/h drop average...

just my 2cents and its worth what its worth (nothing)...

ps. sorry if i wasted anyone time for reading this! lool

Did you install google apps? You have to to install them through clockwork to be able to add a google account! Add that same problem in N6 and solved it like I said....

Just updated from N8 to N11 without wiping anything and the proximity bug is back worse than ever!

Anyone else getting this? if not looks like a wipe is on the books!

I'd say such a big update calls for a wipe anyway. And also before you reflash, edit your build.prop with the prox fix on the second post

I find this whole thing in having to install GApps quite bizarre...

How come Google Search is installed by default on the home screen. Without GApps installed that is...

That's what I don't understand... why did Google stop you from bundling it yet on JJ/FLB/MCR it's there bundled as part of the ROM?

Am curious...

Dude, seriously, you are incapable to read, I have answered 3 times to you, it is also written in the second post and in the s2e description that it handles EXT3!!! WTF do you ask things if you don't read the answers? :)

Thanx Rotmann & take it easy...

Any chance of one of the devs incorporating Ext2 A2SD support for Cyanogen....pleaassse :P
