Guest Rotmann Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 2. Battery drain - don't ask me why, but setting WiFi to never sleep has drastically improved my standby time. Yesterday on N11 I only lost c5% between 0700 and midday, same the day before on N8 - this is with light use, ie the odd email check and text message, couple of calls. Was wifi active all the time? Or did you set wifi to never sleep and then disabled it? I use mostly HSDPA for data and barely WiFi, that's why I ask.

Maybe it's something as simple as someone getting a minus sign the wrong way round, then? E.g. lets say WiFi has states which are coded in numbers from 1 to 4, corresponding to the radio transmission power. If those correspondences are non-intuitive - e.g. if 1 means most power and 4 means least - then it seems possible that it's simply being set to the wrong level, and when it goes into standby, it starts transmitting harder than ever. Also, from another device (I own a Pandora handheld, which has had a number of WiFi issues), polling for WiFi can be WAAAAAAY more intensive on the battery than staying connected to a network, at least on some WiFi chips. Specifically, on Pandora, battery drain equates to 5 hours of life with WiFi on, but not connected, and about 8 hours with it connected - even if usage otherwise remains entirely unchanged. Could something similar be having an impact here? E.g. instead of sleeping, WiFi just disconnects and then starts polling networks like crazy, only entering the lower power connected state once it's marked as awake. Conversely, if it never tries to sleep, it only polls when it's explicitly disconnected. This behaviour could be tested by someone with two blades to spare (if anyone like that is reading this thread and fancies giving it a go): Install CM7 on each, connect one to a nearby network, and leave the other with WiFi turned on but disconnected. Set both in sleep mode (initially without setting WiFi to never sleep). Check rates of battery drain. Repeat wth never sleep turned on. If the phone without networks configured doesn't change battery drain rate, but the other does, then this might be a factor. Just some thoughts by someone who's waiting for a few more issues to be solved before trying CM7 properly...
Guest Maz2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I have my wifi set to "never sleep" but it still disconnects the second the device goes to sleep, and doesnt connect until I wake it back up again. My battery empties very fast and I get occasional touchscreen freezes. My screen stays black after a call and I have to keep pushing the on/off button to get it back again. The camera colour is all washed-out on the nightly 11. I shall try 12 now.

I use mostly HSDPA for data and barely WiFi, that's why I ask. Set to never sleep and left enabled. End button behaviour set to sleep and mostly leave phone on 2G, BTW. Moving on, I just flashed N12 and maybe it's subjective, but it feels slightly snappier, most noticeably keyboard response, which seemed a little laggy on the previous nightlies. Guest timsewell Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Pardon my ignorance, where would you set WiFi to never sleep ? Settings/Wireless & Networks / Wi-Fi Settings - press Menu button for advanced.

Stills camera v. washed out in N12, even with saturation set to highest level. Funnily enough video camera mode fully saturated. Edited March 3, 2011 by timsewell
Guest alex1alex2alex3alex4 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Settings/Wireless & Networks / Wi-Fi Settings - press Menu button for advanced. Oh well, I've been in WiFi Settings, of course, but I guess this was about the only place where I did NOT hit the menu key ... Thanks !

No wonder you did not find it, I mean WHO CAN find it without knowing of it? Android riddle menus  Anyway, it seems N12 is no reason to upgrade.

Guest galorin Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Just downloaded and flashed it. Can we get a mirror for the Google Apps link in the first post? android.d3xt3r01.tk is resolving, but timing out, can't download the apps. Proximity sensor/screen wake thing is a bit of a problem, even when on power, but I noticed loads of ShouldBeFixed things that should come with the next nightly. Had just flashed it when wife called, no time to tinker.
Guest skull_fcuk Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Do you get any delay before the screen comes back on after a call or is it completely normal? Mine takes about 15s which is a pain if you have to use the keypad during a call. Yes I've had the same problem since nightly 11 connecting to a WPA enterprise network (PEAP, MSCHAPv2). It connects without trouble the first time, but won't reconnect unless you forget and reapply the settings. I'm going to do a full wipe and try again before adding a report. Apeman, my screen comes straight back, just as it always has. There is maybe a 0.5 second delay, but it's certainly not 15secs as in your case :( I do a full wipe of everything before installing new nightlies, and only restore Apps using Titanium Backup Free version.
Guest Chris_M Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 No blade specific changes for 10 days in the change log at https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_devi...its/gingerbread :( So why don't you fix some defects and submit the changes? It's not all take take take.....
Guest viggee64 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 my "car home" app is broken in cm7? anyone else experiencing that? it's like that since N8
Guest Rotmann Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 my "car home" app is broken in cm7? anyone else experiencing that? it's like that since N8 It's like that since RC1. Delete it and install it from market, it will work, it's not a priority though, with the crazy idle battery drain.
Guest BigD18t Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Flashed n12 over n11 with just wiping cache, Wifi has been on all morning, and including the flash since 7.30 ive lost 15% which is much better than n11 for me.

Most likely the cache wipe has helped you - md5 sums of N11 and N12 differ, but the size of both is almost identical... Edited March 3, 2011 by ufoman
