Did you do wipe?

Is a wipe necessary when upgrading from RLS3 to RLS5 ?

Nope, no wipe, just installed RLS5 over RLS3.

First I installed the "main" Rom via Clockwork, rebooted, booted once again into Clockwork and installed the AHB and AOSP. Works without problems so far.

After reading some posts here I tried some reboots to see if I can reproduce some mentioned problems with SD. But no, no problems. Also I checked the MD5 sum of some files on my SD card, to see if something changed. There are no problems neither, everything seems okay.

Sorry for what seems like a ridiculously simple question guys but how do I copy a MP3 (any sound file), to the Notification folder in System? I did it with Astro when I had Flibblesan's Rom but it just won't paste the file into the Notification folder now! Is this an issue with the rom or am I having a very blonde moment!!!! :)

I have the same problem.....

(kar999 @ Apr 1 2011, 11:59)

I also found the notification tone “incoming.wav” and moved that to the SD card as well. If I click on it, it lets me set it as a ringtone, and it worked, but I want it in notifications. I’ve tried to cut and paste through Astro and can “drill” upwards to get to /system/media/audio/notifications but it won’t let me paste.

You need something like Root Explorer.

Hi, could someone confirm if it's possible to partition my SD card if I have a current custom rom on? I have no partition as of yet but don't know if it will mess up my current settings / custom Rom and lose my apps. I am currently on RLS3.

Cheers!

An hour ago I did a reboot and it spent an awfuly long time reading the SD card again, I thought it might have corrupted again. Is there a sd card problem with rls-5...?

Also my compass is not accurate, its out by around 90 degrees...no problems with previous releases

Same thing here :). I installed all those missing apps again after first successful format but i unmounted the card successfully few mins ago to copy some data on it because ftp was taking too long and now it is no longer mounting and i can see the message "Preparing SD Card Checking for Errors". I have even tried Mount SD Card and Format SD card option couple of times but no success so far :)

Is my SD card dead?

Hi Lance. Once again, I have another question ofr you (sorry!) I saved and extraced the GPS.conf file, and plugged in my phone to paste it in, but cannot find the 'system' folder to put it into - 'pushing' it different to pasting it, and if not, where should I paste it in my phone?

Sorry for the inconvenience.

You need to use adb to remount your system as writable (adb remount), then use adb to "push" the file on to the phone. "adb push gps.conf /system/etc". Then adb remount again to put back to read only.

I've got RLS4b (on my 2gb sd)

I want to use my 8gb sd card and I've heard I would have to reflash (otherwise the phone would not boot up properly if the 8gb card was inserted),

and planned to flash it with RLS5 if I did this.

How would I go about it?

Also how would I backup everything for when I change ROMs?

My sdcard showed "Preparing SD Card Checking for Errors" after rebooting into RLS5 and then it was corrupted and couldnt be read any more. I also thought it was broken.

Put your card into an adapter or usb reader and stick it into your laptop, it should ask you to format as it can't be read....if it doesn't ask to format then choose it yourself. Also try using a different adapter or usb reader if it's not read on the pc....

The last time I rebooted the RLS5, the "Preparing SD Card Checking for Errors" stayed for an awfuly long time before it finaly worked...which makes me think something in RLS5 may be corrupting the sd card....

thx... now SS is working fine in my newest blade with softbank kernel...

Alternative stock kernels

These can be useful if something doesn't work with the custom kernel like the accellerometer that seems to use different chips on some Blades (for which ZTE has not given us the source). Also it is said that the Softbank (and perhaps the same goes for the Comviq kernel) lags less in Angry Birds.

Are these kernels working on newer Gen1 devices (ones with TFT screen)?I also have an accelerometer problem and i hope this will fix it.

Thanks for your replies!!

Can anyone tell me which RLS5 Kernel I should use with an Orange OLED GEN1 San Francisco which I purchased in October 2010?

Updated first post with stock Comviq and Softbank kernels for those who want to try them out.

so "Comviq Kernel" is the original Swedish Kernel... Is "Softbank" also a stock kernel from an oem blade?

would these solve the RLS5 inaccurate compass and the sdcard corruption problems?

Mine is an Orange SF OLED, compatible with the two kernels....?

Thanks dadashi. I tried one of the adapters yesterday but it was not recognizing my card. I will try it with some other adapter or using my WM phone.

A really stupid question: I just installed SS5 and the Softbank kernel, but in No-frills I cannot set the clock freq over 600MHz. Is this because of the kernel?

Softbank kernel is the stock kernel from the latest Japanese 2.2 ROM.

There is no reason why compass or SD-card should work any different in RLS5 compared to any previous release. I doublt using a stock kernel would make any difference. However the recent stock 2.2 kernels are said to have less lag in Angry Birds and also there are a few people whose g-sensors doesn't work with custom servers that propably could have better luck with stock kernels.

The SD-card troubles one or two people reported are propably coincidences and have nothing to do with going from RLS4->RLS5. A simple thing like not doing a safe removal before pulling the USB-cable (or rebooting the phone) is enough to cause file system corruption on the card.

Mine is an Orange SF OLED, compatible with the two kernels....?

Most likely. My phone is also an OLED version.

Stock kernels does not overclock because they are, well, stock kernels.

Ah, yes. Thought so. Well, have to manage without overclocking then, as I want to keep using my accelerometer.

Why use an USB-cable at all?? I transfer all the stuff from my PC to the phone via DropBox. It's fast (via Wifi), free and no hazzling with cables. This way you can avoid the USB problem I think..

The SS-RLSx has builtin app2sd support. you dont need to install app2sd separately.

As in my case i already partitioned my sdcard before installing Swedish spring. So i have to do nothing to make app2sd work. After installtion of SS, application are rightaway being installed on sdcard.

My sdcard partition layout (for your ref) is

Sdcard capacity - 8GB

- Ext3 = 512 MB

- Swap = 64 MB

- Fat32 = leftover space

i guess this is an answer to my question. so thanks alot for the answer.

but i would like to use a2sd on a running system. is this possible aswell? partitioning the card is not the problem.

or do i have to set up a new system? if so would it be enough to just flash the rs5 release?

Sounds silly but have you rebooted and tried again?
