I looked at some technical documents on the S3C6410 (ARM11) chip beforehand, as well as some other datasheets.

What you say is true, to an extent. The internal DRAM, NAND ROM and Flash memory do have parallel paths, whereas the external (SD) flash memory has a serial one.

However, the limiting factor here, in both cases, is the actual speed of reading and writing flash memory at the memory chip level, since (if you look at the specs for current technologies) flash memory access is still relatively slow compared with accessing say DRAM. Transferring the data is a relatively small part of the total access time. The 2GB/4GB/16GB "internal" storage (My Storage in WinMo) is definitely flash memory (and 3 year old memory tech at that).

The above quotes from your previous post confirm that;

1 -The CPU communicates with My Storage in parallel.

2 -The CPU communicates with External(SD) in serial.

Now based on your findings, we can conclude the following;

1 - If the performance (access, read, write) of the SDcard

is similar to that of My Storage then install to My Storage

2 - If the performance (access, read, write) of the SDcard

is worse than that of My Storage then install to My Storage

3 - If the performance (access, read. write) of the SDcard

is better than that of My Storage then run the Benchmark test

Now based on this;

1 - The Dev's should continue with the autoinstaller for My Storage.

2 - Unfortunately each user will have to decide where to install B3

based on his/her choice of SDcard.

was checking and found a file called init.d increasing the RAM. I took the test and it worked.Initially 60 MB free RAM. Could Voysteckst of a look.File was developed by the Juwe11 xda-developers, now they have developed anapplication called RAM Manager. For those who want to test just download the file init.d and paste in the folder /system /etc and reboot. then check settings, information on the phone and check the total amount of RAM free.

Tried, no difference to the RAM at all.

Normally, I get around 46MB, not enough to

make Opera mobile run smoothly.

An update from above;

Immediately after a reboot, RAM about 46MB

Sometime later, RAM goes up to 59MB.

This is weird, you would think it'll be the other way round.

1- format 8GB Fat 32 using Ubuntu and also windows.

2- copied the installation files to the root folder of my storage card.

3- Run install android.exe from O2beta folder and waited for it until rebooted

4- Run haret.exe from the root but when I do that I get a white screen asking for default.txt

ANyone knows what is wrong please

Unofficial guide: How to manually install Android 2.2 (Froyo) beta 3 release on My Storage partition instead of external SD card on the Samsung Omnia II (GT-i8000)

WARNING: This guide will remove the hidden partition from your phone.

(But I guess it's possible to just resize the my storage partition to get the space you need for the swap and ext4 partitions without loosing the hidden partition)

Always make a backup of your phone before doing this kind of procedure to your phone.SPB Backup is a good software to do that on WinMo you can also store all of your contacts on your SIM card also backup all files you want to keep that is on the My Storage partition.

Note: You can use this guide starting at step 2 to upgrade from beta2 to beta3 (that's how I installed it) You only need to create the linux-swap partition using gparted

Disclaimer: This guide worked for me with the Omnia II (GT-i8000) 16 Gb version so it may not work on other phones compatible with this build. I cannot be held responsible for any damage to you and/or your phone.

Requirements:

- Samsung Omnia II (model GT-i8000)

- Froyo 2.2 Beta 3 build

- Windows (XP, Vista or 7)

- Linux (Live CD or Bootable USB key or a Virtual Machine like VirtualBox since it can link the USB port to the VM. You can use the ubuntu iso as a live CD with VirtualBox so you dont have to install the whole thing)

- Knowledge of Linux is a good thing also to have

- ext4.tar.gz from froyo_beta3.zip

- haret.exe, zImage and startup.txt from froyo_beta3.zip (not from the o2beta folder but from the root of the zip file) - [ you can get startup.txt from beta2 manual installer package froyo_beta2_manual_inst.zip ]

1- Preparing the filesystem: phone booted on Windows Mobile and PC under Linux

- Connect your phone to your PC (Making sure you've selected the My Storage partition in Home -> General Settings -> USB Connection -> Mass Storage -> My Storage)

- Started Gparted and choose the 15.36 Gb partition (should be the last device in the dropdown list)

- Unmount the fat32 partition

- Delete the fat32 partition and all other partitions including the extended partition (this will remove the hidden partition)

- Create 1 primary fat32 partition of about 14.7 Gb labeled sdcard

- Create 1 primary ext4 partition of 1 Gb labeled system

- Create 1 primary linux-swap partition of 128 mb (mine is 256 mb but 128 mb is more than enough)

- Apply the changes (this might take a while so go get something to drink)

- Reboot your phone so that WinMo ajusts its new My Storage partition.

2- Copying the files:

Mount /media/system and extract the content of ext4.tar.gz (sdd2 could be different for you depending on how many disks you have in your PC)

sudo mount /dev/sdd2 /media/system

sudo tar zxvf ext4.tar.gz -C /media/system

Mount /media/sdcard and copy haret.exe, startup.txt and zImage from froyo_beta3.zip

sudo mount /dev/sdd1 /media/sdcard

cp haret.exe zImage startup.txt /media/sdcard

3- Changing configuration files: vold.fstab in /media/system/system/etc

sudo vi /media/system/system/etc/vold.fstab

Change the following line:

dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/mmc_host/mmc0

Like this:

dev_mount sdcard /sdcard auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.1/mmc_host/mmc1

init.rc in /media/system/ (optional: If you want to use your external SD card)

sudo vi /media/system/init.rc

Change the following line:

mount vfat /dev/block/mmcblk1p5 /storage

Like this:

mount vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /storage

startup.txt in /media/sdcard

vi /media/sdcard/startup.txt

Change the following line:

Set CMDLINE "rootdelay=2 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 init=/init console=ttySAC2,115200"

Like this:

Set CMDLINE "rootdelay=2 root=/dev/mmcblk1p2 init=/init console=ttySAC2,115200"

fstab in /media/system/system/etc

sudo touch /media/system/system/etc/fstab

sudo chmod 666 /media/system/system/etc/fstab

sudo echo /dev/block/mmcblk1p3 swap swap defaults 0 0 > /media/system/system/etc/fstab

4- Unmount the 2 paritions

sudo umount /media/system

sudo umount /media/sdcard

5- Starting Android 2.2 (Froyo)

Unplug your phone from your PC

Phone booted under WinMo: Home -> File explorer -> My Storage -> haret.exe

Note: It's normal that the Loading Omnia 2 screen and Android logo screen takes longer on first boot since it's unpacking the apps.

6- Enjoy your brand new Android smartphone :D

I think that's about it, I tried to put in as much details possible from memory since I didn't want to reinstall the whole thing again.

Haret looks for it in the same directory as it is placed itself. The disk/partition where android is installed is set in startup.txt (k0p2 or k1p5 for instance)

1. Copy all files and folders to My Storage

2. Enter to o2beta folder

2a. If You want install on external SD card, just click installandroid.exe.

2b. If You want to instal on Internal Storage, rename sd.cpio.gz to something else, then rename sd_ms.cpio.gz to sd.cpio.gz. Run installandroid.exe.

3. Wait, extracting 150MB could take time.

4. After reboot run haret.exe from My Storage (it's normal that first screen is pink - just wait, if it's more than 30s, tap the screen)

5. Enjoy!

I think you should proper advice according to standard installation. You cannot see through your internetconnection if someone is doing anything different then the given directions.;)

It is up to you Sambosat :D If you followed the readme, place it in my storage.

Hi Voyteckst,

I found that Auto Focus works in the camera, but the manual (only in Camera360).

Peel the object to which you want to take a picture, enter the options (such a small cog in the upper right corner) / Common set / Shoot Mode / select Infinite Distance and again Auto Focus. The camera will catch the same focus on a particular subject.

The only drawback is that every time you perform this operation before shooting.

Odkryłem, że Auto Focus działa w aparacie, ale manualnie (tylko w programie Camera360).

Należy obrać przedmiot, któremu chcemy zrobić zdjęcie, wejść w opcje (taki trybik w górnym prawym rogu)/Common set/Shoot Mode/ zaznaczyć Infinite Distance a następnie ponownie Auto Focus. Aparat złapie sam ostrość na dany przedmiot.

Jedyna wada to, że trzeba za każdym razem wykonywać tą czynność przed zrobieniem zdjęcia.

I have tried all the RAM improvement scripts flying around the forum,

unfortunately they didn't seem to make any real improvement.

I am now trying an app called system panel lite from the market

you can use it to manually end running apps and processes to free

up RAM. It is light, you can close it when you finish with it. It doesn't

change your system config permanently, just reboot to restore.

I also tried Flash player that was posted here in the forum,

It seems to work, I tried it in the system browser, Two issues;

1- Bandwidth, this depends on signal strength, type.

Flash content needs more Bandwidth, I imagine it will

be fine with wifi. I haven't tested it.

2- RAM size, you can use the app I mentioned or something

similar to free up some RAM.

When Android boots up, it loads up all sorts of things to the

RAM assuming there is plenty of space there.

But unfortunately there isn't a lot of RAM space in our O2.

In fact when my O2 boots up, I am only left with about 46MB,

I only have Opera Mobile and k-9 Mail installed.

This is not a lot of RAM to run Flash content.
