Guest JohnnyZTE Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Good news Johnny I block ads before they come down using OpenDNS on my personal wireless which leaves mobile data vulnerable. Goodman, this is something I will have to do, Could you explain how you did this? I know a little about WiFi and routers loggin into the 192.xxx.xx.xxx thing and changing MAC address but after that i'm lost.
Guest fr0do Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) If you go into your router you should see somewhere to set dns. Usually it's turned off/ using your ISPs default address/es. Go to OpenDNS and create a free account, and set your dns to the one given. Then choosing your level of filtering is a matter of selecting options. There's a block category called ads. Very simple, and you can add specific domains too. I added about 20 extra domains, but the default catches the majority. All unwanted traffic will then be blocked there. Just found Set DNS in the market. Has OpenDNS support for 3G. Don't see how you add its IP to OpenDNS yet, but it's looking hopeful! :) Sent from my Blade2 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-2 Edited March 22, 2012 by fr0do

Guest fr0do Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) Still there for me: 'Adware' But yes, that covers hidden adverts. Here's my list of blocked domains: 2o7.net adbrite.com adlog.com adservices.google.com advertising.com alexa.com atdmt.com atdmt.net doubleclick.com doubleclick.net ebayadvertising.com exponential.com fastclick.net google-analytics.com googleadservices.com googlesyndication.com hitbox.com intellitxt.com rad.msn.com rmxads.com rpts.com rpts.net tribalfusion.com view.atdmt.com yieldmanager.com foolDNS and DNSAdvantage look good too, will look into theose. . Guest windy_miller Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 If an app doesn't need internet to function properly, but displays ads (most games are a good example of this), then use droidwall to block all internet access for those apps.
Guest heidspide Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi, Have been on Fibblesan's ROM for a while but decided to swap to Fish'N'Chips - have booted in Clockwork Recovery using ROM manager but it has limited options - ie. no advanced (so can't wipe Dalvik cache), and no browse to SD card - I can only install update.zip from SD card. Should I rename the zip file to be update.zip and do it that way? I have already done "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition" so have a very bare phone :-( Any suggestions? Thanks!
Guest raverrr Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Did you instal clockwork worth ROM manager?
Guest heidspide Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Did you instal clockwork worth ROM manager? No - it was just the one with Fibblesan's FLB2-R1 following the instructions on Bouncer5's thread. Just tried to install one via ROM manager but doesn't seem to work - phone seems to freeze on Green Android logo. Think I picked wrong phone, but couldn't see Crescent (or many other phones) listed for that matter. I'll try and follow your "Installing Clockwork recovery made simple (windows 7)" guide ... Thanks.

Guest heidspide Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) No I realise now that you didn't mean for me to try and install Clockwork via ROM Manager! I'll try not to rush into things. Tried your method but PC froze and would not boot up. Phone said USB debugging mode but that was about it. Was using partner's Windows 7 PC who would kill me if I mucked it up so am back on good old Windows XP PC. I've been hunting round the forums but can't find a simple guide to installing clockwork recovery via ADB - link here is closest I have found but the drivers and ADB link does not work: http://android.modac...d-now-complete/ Since not rushing into anything now - can you point me in the right direction? Wasn't sure if your Windows 7 guide would work on a Windows XP PC, or if there was an easier method. EDIT: Just found this guide, will give this a go http://sanfranciscoa...i-zte-crescent/ EDIT (again): Wouldn't install drivers but think I already have drivers installed - I've got "ZTE Handset USB Driver" which must have installed when I originally followed the guide above. So should I be okay to just follow these instructions now? http://sanfranciscoandroid.co.uk/android/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-the-orange-san-francisco-ii-zte-crescent/ Thanks (sorry a bit nervous). Or you can try the TPT way here http://android.modaco.com/topic/349795-san-francisco-iit-mobile-vivacity-tpts/
Guest heidspide Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Tried this way http://sanfranciscoa...i-zte-crescent/ but get < device not found > and the debugging icon doesn't appear. Should I mount the USB storage?

Guest Josef Prusa Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 One step ahead of you. Already started. Hi, do you think I will be able to use it on my TMV if I just reflash a Vivacity kernel over it? Just to know if I should even try...
Guest CurtisAndroidSF2 Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Just installed FnC. Firstly, it looks nice and clean, but when I had CM7 on my Galaxy 5 I had the option to move any application the SD and I could overclock the kernel from the settings, how would I do this in FnC? Thanks Also many people have 200mb or something internal storage, I only have just over 100... How do i increase this?

Guest CurtisAndroidSF2 Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 Thank you raverrr! Just wondering whether it would be possible to include toggle buttons for WI-FI, 3G, Aeroplane mode, ringer mode etc on the notification bar on the next update? Thank you.

Guest bryfly Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 I'm working on it later when i'm done at work Hi raverrr, Wow sounds like you have your work cut out with all the requests on here to be added to RLS 5. I know you are looking into why the Bluetooth doesnt work right, so just curious how that concern was progressing and is it likely to be corrected for RLS5...... Cheers Bryfly

Cheers Bryfly Like everyone else i would like it to be fully working in R5. I haven't fixed it yet. When i get round to it hopefully thanks to all the user imput, finding the fault shouldn't be to hard. As always i can't give an ETA on any of the above. It depends entirely on what other problems i run into and how long it takes me to work though the increasing list of "to do's" i have.
Guest raverrr Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 This weekend i am focussing on a Rom for the french ppl and the power widget for FNC.
