Sorry to ask but would someone be able to put 5.1 on rapidshare as mediafire won't let me download from my phone?

Been running CM9 rom but having a few issues so want to try fnc for a bit.

Thanks for all your excellent work (:

Use stock browser, long press on the download and open in a new window

Hi people, I’m enjoying the rls5.1 even though i feel it’s a bit power hungry at times :/ but my problem at the moment is internal memory. Now I’ve looked at -----this----- guide but it seems very confusing for a relative noob like me. I think i want to create an ext2 partition to enlarge the internal memory (using SD card) but its eems that there are no real (or comprehendible) steps saying how to do this. Additionally there were a few cautionary warnings about having A2SD compatible ROM. I noticed previous fish n chip rom RLS's had A2SD GUI but this new release doesn’t, which made me think hmmm.

So I’m pretty much asking can ext2 partition be achieved for fish n chips rls5.1 and if so the method how, and how to move the apps,

or alternatively should i change partition sizes to get more space from system partition wasted space as mentioned in the previous link, if so what sizes etc.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance :)

Their are many ways to approach it. The built in A2SD GUI we had in one version of FnC allegedly didn`t work automatically, it was further pointed out that it will not play happily when another version is installed. Personally it never worked even on its own at least for me. So rather than mess about I downloaded and installed APP2SD, it's free, it's all manual but it works. It presents a list of possible apps to go on the SD card and as you click each one it shows a link to transfer it to the SD Card, when this is done it shows a link to transfer it back if their are any problems. You can pick one app or tell it to do all of them. After each one you press the BACK key on the phone then deal with the next one, press BACK and deal with the next one. Once done its sorted!

You need a partition on the SD Card that is EXT2 for the APP2SD to work. You can do it from CWM, I did it instead from a free Windows program (see link) with the SD Card in my laptop SD Card Reader. I set X amount of kb (yes I mean kb) to normal FAT32 (yes I wanted FAT32) and X amount of kb to EXT2SD and made the partition ACTIVE. The kb I set represented the amount of MB set to that partition. Nothing complicated to work out. If you see 500,000 kb for example it's obvious 250,000 kb is 50%, 125,000 is 25%. Equally if it shows 1,000,000 kb then 50% is 500,000 and 25% is 250,000 If it shows 100,000 then 50,000 is half and 25,000 is a quarter. So you set the slider where you want so that each partition has what kb you decide you need. Whatever size of kb mine turned out to be I divided by 2 and set the slider roughly to the halfway mark. This worked perfectly for me.

Now what you do is up to you. I did mine around December 23rd and did it again when I got a bigger card after Christmas. Since that day 20+ ROM changes later and Titanium Backup is still restoring my stuff from the SD Card, my phone is still accepting it as a valid card and APP2SD is still happilly moving stuff to SD Card. I haven`t had a reason yet to move anything back to the phone but would imagine it would still let me do so. I am now on FnC R5.1 and all this still works with no problems.

Minitool Partition Wizard is what I used, clunky but free and it works;

Just to clarify the ROM does have A2SD - just not A2SDGUI which is purely the user interface/app. Install the latter from the market - you will then be able to see if apps are on internal or on SD card. It also allows you to move apps from one to the other. The simplest way to re-partition your SD card is via Clockwork recovery which can also be done via ROM Manager app. - I suggest 500 Mb extn partition. Once you have the extn partition all apps will be automatically installed to the extn partition but whatever method it will not be totally efficient with approx 50% still remaining on internal memory. Although A2SD moves apps to SD extn the phone "thinks" they are on internal memory - using another app such as apps2SD to move apps to SD is pointless as they are already there. You will see also that it duplicates the action & this can create conflicts. Having said that I have done this in the past & I didn't notice any ill effects - now I know better I would avoid it. I hope this helps

Many thanks for the advice regards internal memory / SD partitioning, makes interesting reading

and I thought installing a custom ROM was complicated!

Could I please ask... In simple terms, how (via ROM manager) do I actually create the partition?

(Sorry Reider59 Ive read your post but still confused)

A step by step would be brilliant

Phone spec

Vivacity

Fish'N'Chips RLS1

Internal available space 5.43MB

SD Card Total space 14.83GB

Available space 6.32GB

Thanks for any help Guy's

Raverrr let me thankyou for a really good rom. On my zte blade I ran into a few problems with fish and chips which resulted in me getting no notification of my daughters school being closed due to bad weather. As a result I was skeptical about this rom even though all reviews had it head and shoulders above the rest. Boy was I wrong !. The rom is very good and I now feel bad for not unlocking and flashing sooner. Thanks again from a very happy bladebuddy.

P's shame on me!

Repartion SD Card is an option on ROM Manager main menu - just select 512 Mb & click. Phone will boot into Recovery; you may have to re-confirm your selection there by scrolling up/down with vol+/vol- & selecting with Home button but it's all very straightforward really.

You will lose anything that's on the SD card so before re-partitioning back up (to PC) anything that you want to keep & you can restore it after re-partitioning.

After rebooting you should then have a ext partition on your SD Card - install A2SDGUI from Google Play & it will show where apps are.

From now on any apps will be installed to the SD ext by default. If A2SDGUI shows apps are on on SD all well & good - if they are on internal click it & it will re-boot phone & move apps to SD.

Job done!

in relation to this, ^ (the bold bit) , are you saying even if i do make an external partition and use A2SDGUI it will still leave a reletively large portion of data on the phone internal, no different to using a standard A2SD (without partitioning.). the only difference would be that it would be completely automatic if i used the A2SDGUI ?

and cheers guys for the quick responses, and detail :)

Any brave TMV testers? this is another attempt at 5.1 for the TMV:

make sure you have a backup.Report back with findings :)

how I wish I could test it, but pitty that I've broken my dear vivacity. hope the seller could repair it. prey for it ...

Hello Titas thanks for that.

When I click on Partition SD card (in ROM Manager) it says you must have CWM Recovery installed before continuing. Install the recovery through ROM Manager first.

I thought I had installed CWM along with FnC RLS1?

How can I check? ta

Nope. Won't boot. Stuck on the green android logo. Replacing the startup script did not help this time... sad.gif

Essentially, yes. A2SD is fully automatic, marginally more efficient than App2SD etc & will still work if the SD card is mounted to the PC via USB & apps may even still work if the SD card is removed temporarily after booting. The main difference as far as space goes is that A2SD moves all apps to the ext partition whereas with App2SD some app's will not function correctly if moved to SD. The reason is that A2SD runs app's as if they were on the internal; with Apps2SD etc they run from the SD card. Finally, if you decide not to partition take a look at Link2SD app - it's very good.

Hmmm. I had that problem for a while too. I guess ROM Manager is not recognizing Clockwork Recovery. OK, go directly to Recovery (switch off phone then switch back on & hold down power & volume- buttons). Then scroll through options to "partition SD card", select size & confirm action with "Home" - phone may reboot itself or, if not select "reboot now" & of course press "Home" to confirm. It's almost as easy as ROM Manager anyway

If this is any help to anyone - I have been using the Blade S/San Fran RLS5.1 version on a TMV for the last few days without any problems (applied the Fuzzra OC kernel afterwards though).

A big thanks to the developers as it so much better than the stock ROM. I don't mind testing when your release the official TMV version.

Dennis - Well I guess you don't have Clockwork Recovery so you'd have to flash it to be able to use the method I suggested. (Of course you also have the other option, as suggested by Reider59, of repartitioning your card via a PC & card reader)

There are a few ways of getting Clockwork Recovery but I'm a bit hazy on it & I don't want to take you in the wrong direction. Have a look at the flashing Clockwork guides - also Psychokilla has just posted a good guide on How to get started which explains how to get from FTM to Recovery. Alternatively hang back & await advice from someone who is more familiar with this. I'll check back tomorrow to see if you're OK.

Edit: I did a little homework - I think it should be possible to put Clockwork Recovery on the SD Card, re-name it "update.zip" & then flash it via FTM??........but I'm not sure so don't go there until you get further advice. If it was me I would use this http://android.modac...flash-recovery/ simple & effective though slightly more risky.

Edit 2 After a little more homework I found this http://sanfranciscoandroid.co.uk/android/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-the-orange-san-francisco-ii-zte-crescent/ which is about as clear a guide as you will get. Either the TPT method or this should get Clockwork Recovery onto your phone again. (Btw, I did also mention Link2SD is very good didn't I?? biggrin.gif)

Here`s a tutorial someone did, just ignore the bit about Link2SD cos you`re not using that. All you want is 2 partitions, a FAT32 or whatever for normal use and an EXT2 partition. Windows will no longer recognise that EXT2 partition after you create it, but the phone and and application that sends to SD Card will. On the other hand you still have the FAT32 or whatever for normal Windows stuff.

http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1432459

When you use the Minitool Partition Wizard all it is basically is a program that points at the drivespace on the SD Card and depending on what you set it places a partition on it. The size purely depends on you sliding a slider for a smaller or larger partition. Then create it after telling it what type you want. Just remember some for your normal Windows use and some for the phone. You can drag your backed up stuff back to it once its up, running and tested in both the computer and the phone. Something like this is always going to appear harder than it really is until you have the actual program installed and in front of you.

This is like watching paint dry creating the partitions. But if it fails then you wipe the SD Card with the same program and start over, no harm done. You may be lucky and watch the Tutorial then get it first time round. If not then what has it cost you? Just a little time, no bricked phone and no destroyed SD Card. Go on, have a go.......

Thanks Titas (you've got the Patience of a Saint lol)

Right Ive managed to flash CWM

Then from there, I tried to partition the card (Ext 512mb / Swap size 256mb)

However when I re add the apps the internal memory soon gets full (30mb remaining after doing the repartition)

Baring in mind Ive moved as many as possible to the SD via a2sd

Sorry all I seem to be taking this thread off topic, will start a new thread in misc

DennisElbow - Congrats on getting CWM on! Yes, this is going on a bit - will look for your new thread.

Edit: OK, in the meantime then - Swap size should be 0. Have you installed A2SDGUI & confirmed apps are on SD? What are the sizes of the various partitions (Titanium or FreeSpace will show this).

In A2SDGUI underDalvik tab click Move to move dalvik cache to SD - this will reboot phone. You should see a significant improvement then.
