Guest cjb110 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 What's the best place for sourcing USB OTG cables from?
Guest Peninsula Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 I ordered this one from amazon. It took about 7 or 10 days. I can say it is one of the cheapest out there, but unfortunately I cannot say if it works!! I am still waiting for my Nexus 7 and my Huawei does not accept OTG. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0087ARREW
Guest cjb110 Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) I think I'll get one of these, and a 32gb card. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...#ht_2522wt_1163 Don't like the cables, a little adapter would be ok though i.e. http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/150841770626?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&cbt=y Edited July 17, 2012 by cjb110
Guest comicbookguy Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 i have a cable for use with my GNex, it came from ebay - it's actually better than a short adapter because it makes it harder to knock the memory stick around in the socket. you can get right angle ones which would be even less obtrusive in landscape ..... Also, can one of you try something for me if you get chance please: I've connected my Gnex to the wifes Sony Arc S before using the OTG cable plugged into the normal charging cable. The result was that the device at the "host" end had access to the card mount folder in the device at the "slave" end (the host device even charges the other one, because it thinks its powering a usb stick, lol). I'd very much like to know what happens when you do this with an android phone and a Nexus7 ;)
Guest wvpv Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Just bought a little cable off of eBay. Just found StickMount this morning, so I'm anxious to give it a try. ::fist bump:: for the tip.
Guest tyhurd Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Here's a good cable from Amazon (if you're on the US). http://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Micro-USB-Host-Cable/dp/B005GGBYJ4/. Best of luck to you!
Guest ptbw Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 This one works perfectly with Nexus 7 + StickMount. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220960816331 Its actually gone up 4 pence since I purchased mine!!
Guest Pondlife Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Very nice, wonder how many have been put off by their warning "PLEASE NOTE : DOES NOT WORK WITH ANDROID 2.3.3 And Above"
Guest PaulOBrien Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 D'oh, anyone kind enough to let them know? :) P
Guest cjb110 Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Just did, its an odd comment though, as it says Xoom works which only ever had 3.x and above on it.
Guest xXBooSHXx Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 http://www.amazon.co...ils_o00_s00_i00 Ive just got one of these, using with an Integral 32gb flash drive and all appears to be ok so far.
Guest DyManic Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 I got one from Amazon. Works great with my usb stick and a 2.5" usb powered 400gb Samsung hdd I tried.
Guest xXBooSHXx Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) Just a quick question, if I get a usb hub will it have to be powered externally or will a bus powered one be sufficient? Edited July 27, 2012 by xXBooSHXx
Guest comicbookguy Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Probably depends on what you're planning to connect.....
Guest xXBooSHXx Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Connecting mouse, keyboard and flash drive, ended up buying a basic 4 port hub from currys for £3.99 no external power and it seems to work fine.
Guest comicbookguy Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Let us know how it effects battery life! I've had a portable hard drive working with my USB charger powering the drive
Guest trishmac Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Do usb otg cables only work on rooted (wish I was brave enough) n7?.. haven't tried it yet but from what I've read flash, usb otg and other minor things don't work after the 4.1 update :) x
Guest comicbookguy Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Rooting is easy! (If i can do it... lol)
Guest trishmac Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 Rooting is easy! (If i can do it... lol) I'm a scardey cat..would love to try it one day x
Guest comicbookguy Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 The super boot method on here is fairly simple, and Nexus devices are almost "meant " to be rooted ;) I used Wuggs Nexus Toolkit (it used to be galaxy nexus toolkit) which is step by step and almost foolproof I've scared myself to death with soft bricked devices before and always managed to repair them eventually
Guest chrisbarker Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 I got my OTG cable today so will be attempting to root mine tonight. :) PS: comicbookguy - Do you go to any of the UK comic conventions? Wondering if our paths may have crossed. :)
Guest comicbookguy Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 Only very occasionally! Its more that I'm an all-around (literally) geek with a goatee.... lol
