What's the best Gingerbread ROM (for the Vivacity) that has a working front camera and flash? I looked at CM7 and found it doesn't have those, so I guess it only works on stock-based ROMs?

FishNChips 7 http://www.modaco.co...shnchips-7-235/ proven to be stable and has everything in place, also there's a JB theme available.

FishNChips 8 http://www.modaco.co...m-fnc-rls8-235/ Not quite as proven but newer and therefore probably better.

H3 Blues [Port] I don't know if it works but if it does this is definitely the best http://www.modaco.co...s/#entry2062507

Swedish Snow [Port] Only issue was the size of the keyboard but replacing it with any other should works http://www.modaco.co...-fully-working/

AndrodIum 2.0.2 http://www.modaco.co...roium-202-2302/ based on FnC but newer and better

If any of these Roms doesn't provide a TMV version, you must simply use this kernel http://www.modaco.co...erclock-kernel/

Maybe Stock ? http://www.modaco.co...ded-gb-rom-r2a/

I'd disagree androlim is better than fish n chips. It's for French, free mobile users so they can use EAP sim. It also has the GPS fix removed and is based on an out dated fnc release.

There is also pinguys "kick ass Rom"

A note:

Any Rom based on fnc including the ics style music app stops Bluetooth from working. You'll need to install the stock app to fix.(I think that's version 6-7).

I'm not really sure what version the other roms are based on.

Some people have reported upside down front camera on most roms. I don't have this problem bit suspect it's due to the version of the camera app installed.

Whichever you choose don't be afraid of trying all of them yourself. Different people will like different roms.

For the "upside down" front camera problem, there is an explanation :)

The "stock Android" ROM from ZTE is patched :) because ZTE team have this problem within their phone.

So, if you use another camera app or another ROM not using the patch from ZTE team (like CM/Paranoid), the upside down problem is here, thanks to ZTE team not providing their patch to fix it.

Front camera IS A PAIN lol

Then how come some people get the problem with Roms based on stock?

Is it because only the original camera.apk works?

Yes, I think so.

I tested AndroIum (from FNC from stock).

Original cam app is OK with front cam, but if I use any other cam app (like Camera ICS), the front cam is upside down.

ANd you might have noticed that the successor (ZTE Blade 3) have no frontcam. That's a clue : ZTE dev. are not so... you understand ? lol

I just tested swedish snow and camera is upside down, despite using stock camera.apk (asfaik)

If I read well, swedish port is coming from first ZTE Blade, not ZTE Blade Crescent so the stock cam app is from Blade 1 so... upside down ;)

Have you tried taking the camera.apk from fish n chips and dumping it into Swedish snow?

This thread got me experimenting last night.

Swedish snow works fine apart from upside down front camera and wrong keyboard. I'm guessing this could easily be fixed by packaging other apks to replace them.

Kick ass rom has the same upside down camera and also gave me inaccuracy when typing (seemed the touchscreen, at least for the stock keyboard). It was one character to the right inaccurate.

H3Blue I was looking forward to the most but it would not boot for me. I tried looking for the crc of the zip but there wasn't one. I reformatted twice and re downloaded again. I even removed some apks in case it was a space issue. Same result.

I also tried atomic mod, another port in beta, no boot.

I even looked at the Mui gingerbread port but already saw that it wasn't working.

So basically the only roms that work flawlessly are fish n chips and stock.

Be aware though, with release 7 you will need to replace the ics music app with the stock one from earlier releases otherwise Bluetooth won't work.

Release 8 is much better in this respect, but you also have to be aware, by default it switches off the data connection when the phone sleeps, meaning if you use any kind of data service/app that needs background sync(e.g.Skype, tango, kik, Google voice etc) you'll need to edit the build.prop to remove this feature- don't be put off though it's easy to do AND if you don't need to use those apps, this feature will save battery!
