porting the CM10.1 messaging app did not work out so i ported AOSP instead

i would appreciate it people could test this properly for me as the Y300 is not the phone i actually use or top up...

my main phone is the nexus 4 which has a micro sim.

so far it seems to be working fine, but i have only text 150 and received a text with my balance, settings seem to be working ok as well

NOTE

to test this you need to flash the zip then do a factory rest for it to work... the database needs wiped to work unfortunately,

this won't be a problem when included in the rom as a full wipe will be done before installing.

however you could just try deleting everything in this directory and reboot (if not you need to factory reset)

/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/

Flash in recovery

are you posting bo3 tonight? Just wondering if there's any use in going to sleep haha

I just tested this mod on the Skate and everything works perfectly.

http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1869521

I didn't need to modify the systems framework or anything. Just copy it over and set the permissions.

EDIT:

Here's something else worth trying. It's the messaging app from SlimBean (Android 4.2.2).

http://d-h.st/wQn

It might not have the same dependencies as CM10 and it has even more features.

The ROM I used is SlimBean. I don't think it's got anything to do with CM as it has it's own set of apps and the settings are totally different.

The APK I posted I've resigned with test sigs, so it should be as simple as replacing the stock app and wiping any data. If it crashes then it seems SlimBean/CM have something that the stock Y300 ROM's missing.

I'm sure SlimBean is based on CM sources.

cm based roms use "mms-common.jar" for there mms.apk or all 4.2 not sure, rather than in framework.jar like AOSP 4.1

I've read mixed things about it as some say it's totally different and some say they base it off of CM. With the Skate I do see mms-common.jar.

I was just looking at these threads:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086834

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100078

So it's possible and they explain how to do it. I'd try myself if I had a device to work on.

Still confused all I want to know is will it help me run apps allot better like browser, Facebook, minecraft?

The update will help ONLY the ROM apps because the HWA on the other apps downloaded from the Market is already "ok".

As a long time user of SlimBean Roms, on several devices, I can tell you it is AOSP based with CM cherrypicks.

Look on slimroms dot net.

Heres MMS from CM10.

Okay, this one has stock const values:

http://d-h.st/McK

And this one has CM10 const values:

http://d-h.st/eBh

I don't know if either of them work as I don't have a device to test on, so make sure you have a backup before applying either.

Both files are also patched to see if GPU rendering can be enabled for system apps by changing eqz to nez.

Details:

CyanogenMod has a const value of 0x1110027 in MmsSmsProvider.smali. Stock has 0x111001c.

CyanogenMod has a const value of 0x1040141 in SqliteWrapper.smali. Stock has 0x1040123.

CyanogenMod has a const value of 0x111003f in PduParser.smali. Stock has 0x1110031.

EDIT:

It's a shame that development for this device seems so slow as it looks to be a better device than the ZTE Blade or the Skate, yet theres only a handful of ROM's and not many people are posting or willing to try patches. What puzzles me most though is that theres 2 devs working on seperate versions of CyanogenMod. If they were to both work on 1 version together via github then things would probably be patched and working much sooner.

I just flashed the stock version of the MMS from CM10 to my stock B190:

telephone app has stopped constantly

88 messaging app has stopped many times

com.android.phone process has stopped constantly

=(

so I can say only this

went back to my backup

Edit:

yes would be quicker and efficient if the guys would do it in a teamwork… =)

unfortunately I am totally unfamiliar in this programming area...

I am making music =)

(sorry for the off)

Do you mean you tried the apps from the XDA links, or did you try my patches? If you tried one of my patches (stock const values?) then try flashing the other one over the top of it.

Tillaz also has a patch for the stock messaging app, but obviously we'd like to get the CM10 app as it has a ton more settings.

@ Clarkiieh

My guess is that he won't release anything until stuff has been tested like the GPU patch and the messaging patches.

i plan on updating beta 3 soon, maybe in a couple of hours

a quick note about the AOSP keyboard: (this will be in the FAQ)

the keyboard is originaly 12mb because of loads of dictionary packs built in, i have removed them all as we only need the languages we use

the dictionary packs can actually be download from with in the AOSP keyboard its self to the SDcard.

like this: (the phone should actually start to download the selected system language dictionary soon as connected to WiFi)

i want to keep it as small as possible, same reason i wont include any apps available on the market,

including Google's stuff... Gmail, Google Now, Calender, Music etc..

if its on the play store it wont be in this rom (Google now = "Google search" on the market)

if you want to know why read then of this post >

You've not hardcoded in any fonts have you? I mean simply replacing the fonts with AOSP fonts should make things like the settings menu look like stock, right?

I'm currently downloading the removed apps package you posted as I know my friend will want the Talk app. The Hangouts "update" on the market is awful as you can't even tell whos online, busy or away.

the font used is from stock 4.3 (roboto condensed) but yeah, replacing the who font folder will revert it

That may explain it as it looks like roboto, but it seems a little more sharp and less curved.

Like to compare heres what the stock font looks like:

I'd really like the CM10 MMS mod to be tested before the update releases, but I think my friend would be happy with stock too at this point.

yeah, its not what 4.3 uses by default its just took from the font folder in 4.3 (not even sure where its used in 4.3)

here is the original 4.3 font (CM10.2 for my nexus 4)

It's not a ROM for this device. It was taken on a Nexus.

My friend wants things as stock as possible so I'll probably be giving them a patch with the stock fonts in use as well as the apps they want (Gmail, YouTube, Talk).

@ Tillaz

Yep, they're the fonts I'm after.

Could you actually upload them somewhere as a patch when you next release the ROM? It'd help my friend out as then I could just link them off to that.
