What is the difference between 8297 and 8297w? Because for the 8297 on the official site i see android 4.4. Can i flash it to 8297w?

It should work, but for 3g you should apply wcdma patch.

8297 is chinese model with gms + TD-SCDMA bands  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TD-SCDMA,   8297W is Europe/Japan model with gsm+ w-cdma (umts) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-CDMA_(UMTS).

8297 is the Chinese TD-SCDMA model.

8297W or Unicom is the WCDMA model needed for most of the rest of the world (e.g. Europe).

There are different ROMs for each.

You can flash 8297 ROMs on the 8297W but you'll have to do the TD-SCDMA -> WCDMA hack described here:

Note that there are 4.4 ROMs for the 8297W as well. 

My understanding is that 018 is the latest official one and anything later is a newer beta.

Not quite true.

 

8297W is Chinese model actualy and it is made for China Unicom network users.

We are just lucky that we have the same network standard.

Coolpad most probably never had Europe or Japan in mind when designing this phone.

 

Many of you think that those annoying china apps are just crap that was made to bother EU phone users.

You mean is the Needrom Lewa 6 the same as either of those?

I don't know.

Your first link above is to the Unicom version so that's presumably the 8297W version.

The battery use first charge after calibration, only 2G.Its 018 by ATX.

it seems good, it's an aosp with minor graphical changes (and a lot (on paper) of optimizations from the developer of this custom version). I'll try it if I have some spare time to see if performances are better!
