Guest Dave1000 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Hi, I got my Coolpad F1 8297W today. All the instructions in the box were in Chineses (I guess this was to be expected :) ). Anyway, I've put my micro SIM in the GSM slot and charged it up. After it was fully charged. I have turned it on. I get a message saying that there is no SIM in slot 1 or slot 2. So, Q1) Is there something I need to do to make it connect with British mobile networks (I'm on giffgaff) ? Q2) I have successfully connected to my wifi network and it's asking me if I want to upgrade from version 4.2.036.P0.140704.8297W to version 4.2.039.P0.140801.8297W Do I need to bother doing this or do I want to be getting a different rom on it asap? PS. I am reluctant to flash a different rom until I know it hasn't got faulty SIM slots and it needs to go back to China. Thanks in advance
Guest dalyer Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 You shouldn't have to do anything. Try powering off, reseating the SIM and powering on again. If the problem persists then post back.
Guest Dave1000 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) Update: I've tried putting my SIM in another phone and that phone won't recogonise it either. My old phone was a mini SIM type, so I think I must have broke it somehow, while I popped it out of the bigger bit of plastic ie, when going from this to this. You've got to laugh or you'd cry. Guest dalyer Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Sounds likely alright. I presume that giffgaff can offer you a replacement micro SIM (for free?)? My MVNO here in Ireland does anyway...
Guest Dave1000 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) Update: Luckily, I had a brand new spare giffgaff SIM in the drawer. And I followed these instructions for doing a SIM swap. http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Blog/SIM-swap-launches-Nano-SIMs-arrive/ba-p/6884758 I put the new SIM in my phone and powered up and the phone is now working. :D So be extremely careful if you're ever changing your mini-sims into micro-sims. And thanks for the help. Edited November 18, 2014 by Dave1000
Guest userDJJ Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Q1) Is there something I need to do to make it connect with British mobile networks (I'm on giffgaff) ? Go here: system settings, more, mobile networks, access point names If there are already setup apn (net, mms), then you are ready to rock n roll. Q2) I have successfully connected to my wifi network and it's asking me if I want to upgrade from version 4.2.036.P0.140704.8297W to version 4.2.039.P0.140801.8297W Do I need to bother doing this or do I want to be getting a different rom on it asap? I advise you to turn off update checking and update to latest fw.Nothing is really wrong this stock rom.
