Guest Dave1000 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) Hi, I'm guessing that before I can install CWM recovery, make a backup and then install different roms I need to root the phone. However, when I go here https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4huyVgvdssGZEIxbjNaVDdSVUU&usp=sharing&tid=0B4huyVgvdssGQzI1M1lfMk1BSUE and to try and download VRoot_1.7.8.9139_Setup.exe I get a message from google drive saying the file contains a virus. Here is a screen print. Does it really contain a virus or am I doing something wrong? Thanks Edited November 18, 2014 by Dave1000
Guest dalyer Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Probably a false positive. Rooting tools are often incorrectly detected as malware. If in doubt do it all in Sandboxie: http://www.sandboxie.com/

Guest userDJJ Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) Copy this http://www.modaco.com/topic/372543-coolpad-f1-8297w-review-info-software-custom-roms/page-114#entry2231211 into / of your sdcard, turn phone off, hold power and vol + button, flash zip. Or http://www.7to.cn/download.html?action=soft&sid=6 , install within http://www.sandboxie.com/ (worked for me with stock fw 041, f1 8297W). Edited November 18, 2014 by userDJJ

Guest Dave1000 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) Hi again, I have copied that Official_root.zip file to the root directory of my sd card. I have then switched the phone back on whilst down the vol + I have been present with a blank screen that says => FASTBOOT mode... => FASTBOOT mode... Is this correct ? If so what do I need to type or what buttons do I need to press. Here is a photo Edited November 18, 2014 by Dave1000
Guest Dave1000 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 I managed to switch the phone off by holding the power button down for 20 seconds. The phone then luckily then turned back on OK.....phew...... I Had a horrible feeling I had a brick.

If in doubt do it all in Sandboxie: http://www.sandboxie.com/ I have downloaded and installed sandboxie and tried the google drive link for VRoot_1.7.8.9139_Setup.exe again. I got exactly the same error from google drive about it containing a virus. Is it possible to download this program from another source?

Here is a photo IMG_4477.JPG No fast boot it is not what you are looking for (phone, system settings, accessibility, untick "quick boot"), even stock f1 has some "kind" of recovery installed. Try power and vol - , or power and vol - vol + . There are only 3 combination possible. I don't understand why are you bothering with vroot as it doesn't work with 041 version of rom, when i told you to use www.7to.cn tool (link above). As for virus warning told you either, so please use sandboxie (easy solution) or setup virtual pc without net connection (vwmare player, virtual box, vwmare workstation). Guest Dave1000 Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Hi, Thanks for replying. But I'm utterly confused. It is not my PC that says file VRoot_1.7.8.9139_Setup.exe contains a virus. It is google drive itself. It it doesn't matter whether I click this linkhttps://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4huyVgvdssGZEIxbjNaVDdSVUU&usp=sharing&tid=0B4huyVgvdssGQzI1M1lfMk1BSUE (then try and download) in Windows7, Windows xp or ubuntu. Either in a sandbox or outside a sandbox in a physical machine or a virtual machine I get exactly same message "Sorry, this file is infected with a virus. Only the owner is allowed to download infected files." Please try it yourselves, and you will see I am not insane, googledrive is not allowing this file to be downloaded, because it believes (rightly or wrongly) that it contains a virus. All I am actually trying to do, is follow the basic stuff for beginners "easy peasy" section herehttp://www.modaco.com/topic/372543-coolpad-f1-8297w-review-info-software-custom-roms/?p=2212206 and I am getting nowhere fast. Maybe the easy peasy section needs updating because things have moved on (new methods of doing stuff etc) since it was written. PS. My phone is brand new and has version 4.2.036.P0.140704.8297W on it. I'm guessing this means I'm on version 36, can somebody confirm this? If I am on version 36, What is the correct or best method of rooting version 36? Thanks Edited November 19, 2014 by Dave1000
Guest userDJJ Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Again, it seems you not listening single word what i am saying. Have you tried power and vol -+ combinations ? power vol- power vol+ power vol+ - If you really want it so much you can get vroot here: http://www.mgyun.com/en/getvroot virustotal scan https://www.virustotal.com/sl/file/23331f258969f416cf610c18691d0d2ffb91c134c6e7559a7941f5c9b8642a84/analysis/1416402346/ Detection ratio: 20 / 54 Some Av marks root tools as viruses/spyware. My way on 041 was 7cn tool above under sandboxie/VM, job done. China Root Tools Collection http://www.modaco.com/topic/371968-coolpad-f1-8297w/page-22#entry2211634 Edited November 19, 2014 by userDJJ

I managed to root with this method in the end. I don't think I was pressing the buttons in long enough (10 seconds seems to work the best). :D Thanks
Guest dakok Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 So this is the official root that works in 036 (modified by the seller - multilanguage?) through stock recovery? Any china interface with something to confirm or select or it simply reboots to a now rooted 036 rom?
Guest Dave1000 Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) So this is the official root that works in 036 (modified by the seller - multilanguage?) through stock recovery? Any china interface with something to confirm or select or it simply reboots to a now rooted 036 rom? Because of my lack of knowledge with this phone, I'm not 100% sure what your asking me here. All I can tell you is what I did, which was: 1. I installed the Root Checker app from the google playstore and it told me I didn't have root. 2. I downloaded Official_root.zip from this link SPAM/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_14164554557326&key=9b4efad421c8b103b2c94b796db973b0&libId=5ead27b6-e779-4d60-8d7c-ec234f67c0cc&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.modaco.com%2Ftopic%2F372543-coolpad-f1-8297w-review-info-software-custom-roms%2Fpage-114%23entry2231211&subId=b0ec8f07a9b2e76d29cd641fde2b9d0d&v=1&out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dropbox.com%2Fsh%2F4j0q4cy2hs23s5b%2FAACzRipgipVV_VLi5qw88W1Ca%3Fdl%3D0&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.modaco.com%2Ftopic%2F373956-rooting-a-brand-new-coolpad-f1-8297w%2F&title=Coolpad%20F1%208297w%20-%20Review%20%2F%20Info%20%2F%20Software%20%2F%20Custom%20Roms%20-%20Page%20114%20-%20CoolPad%20F1%20-%20MoDaCo&txt=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dropbox....i5qw88W1Ca%3Fdl%3D0 3 I copied Official_root.zip to the top directory of my sd card. 4. I powered off the phone. 5. I turned the phone back on while holding down volume up and power while counting to 10 seconds (this got me into stock recovery). 6. I then selected "apply update from sdcard" from the stock recovery menu. 7. I then pressed the volume down button until I was on the Official_root.zip file, I then pressed the volume up key to select it (in CWM recovery the power button is select, but all the power button did in stock recovery was toggle me between a screen with an picture of an android laid on his back with words "NO COMMAND" underneath him and the stock recovery menu). 8. I then selected system reboot from the stock recovery menu. After the phone rebooted, the Root Checker app said that I had root. I never encountered anything in Chinese until the next stage, when I replaced the stock recovery with CWM recovery. Thanks Edited November 20, 2014 by Dave1000
Guest dakok Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 Thanks for details, which rom version did you have there?
Guest Dave1000 Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) Thanks for details, which rom version did you have there? When I got the phone it said it had version 4.2.036.P0.140704.8297W on it. But a couple of days ago (following your instruction on page 1 of the really big thread). I flashed a different ROM onto the phone, it's called jonzalvo's pure AOSP version 2. Here is a link to it.http://www.needrom.com/download/coolpad-f1-8297w-pure-aosp/ I really like it, fast and no bloatware. Which is all I want really. Edited November 24, 2014 by Dave1000
