Guest Kurtinaitis Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 After cheking @magmar452 link and anothers, i think the development for our terminal has stopped, even in 4.4. People in Coolpad forums seem to be angry, but i can't be sure. Translator to chinesse is terrible.
Guest johnickz Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Yes I think that development has stopped or maybe never have never began at all.The fault in this case was that they let this picture with the schedule of upgrades go in public.Thats why the people on the Chinese forums and us of course are very dissapointed by this situation..
Guest Destiny133 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Well. We know that they are building new OS. Myb with that OS they can get to lollipop.
Guest 77chedu Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Do you guys know of some other mtk6592 phone currently running Lollipop? Not that CM ported hybrids with kitkat kernels, that are popping out like crazy lately
Guest SeerJ Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 There are a little models that have KK...therefore maybe us we had goog luck but...the optimism of coolpad wasn't enough...The most of the mtk6592 are still in 4.2, probably that's the fact because our roms in KK drastically worstened the GPU performanceperformance, maybe we could focus in JB again because i think its the best kernel we could have...
Guest xeros2 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) Well, I (& all of us here, I think), was really counting on this 5.1 update because I'm looking for its features & fixes (including better compromise between performance & power consumption), because as I still use 4.2, I don't have any objections for performance, but battery life is very weak (even after removing, killing, freezing, hibernating most of apps), especially on when using more heavy tasks just for a couple of minutes each day.I really miss other kernel features that are not available in released JB & KK kernels so far, like I/O accounting, USB 3.0 charging support, USB Host (even non-powered), ExFAT & other FS support, better CPU & IO schedulers and CPU frequency scaling fixes (like CPU goes to static ~1142MHz in sleep state, regardless of cpufreq kernel settings for any scheduler to set min/max/cur frequencies, but from power consumption it looks like ~750-850MHz frequencies with 6 cores disabled (using only 2 cores) seem to be most power effective for sleep states for MT6592).Other things are mentioned GPU drivers - other phones with MT6592 & KK have better GPU kernel drivers for our MALI 450 (for example Lenovo A8/A806,...), which are better in both performance & power consumption. There are even more things waiting for fixes on Coolpad side, but these are the first things that come to my mind for kernel side. Guest zltnngy Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I don't think you can expect wonders with this hardware regarding power consumption. A Cortex A7 cpu at 1.7 ghz is really on the limit, so it will produce lots of heat and drain battery when under load. Limiting the number of cores to 4 doesn't help much, the effect on real life performance and battery drain is quite small, I tried it. I think the hotplug governor (default) does its job reasonable well. The screen on high brightness is also draining battery, you can't fix that via software. The camera is a heavy user too.Yep Mali 450 is the other main culprit, I cannot judge whether better drivers could improve power consumption. I get about 4.5 hours of SOT with 2 days standby, with moderate usage (mostly using Chrome). With really heavy usage (max brightness, video recording or GPS+3g) I feel I could drain the battery in 2-2.5 hours. The other interesting thing is that if you want to get longer battery time, it is important to charge to 100%. Somehow I feel that if I only charge to 80-90%, the battery percentage seems to be falling much quicker. Unfortunately some think that charging to 100% has a bad long term effect on battery.
Guest Kurtinaitis Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) Some of various kernel tweaks (set diferent core frequencies, I/O scheduler tweaks, tryint to group tasks into the least cores possible, Entropy tweaks, ...) are available with Kernel Adiutor. I don't use them because i don't know how to modify these things safely, but it seems interesting. You can give a try @xeros2I always set screen brightness to minimum when I'm at home, at work or in other enclosed spaces. Outside use autobrightness. For commonly used tasks, like surfing the web, listening music, etc always try to use light and efficient apps .For instance:-Now browser, Ninja Browser or Lightning browser instead of Chorme, Maxthon, Delfin, Firefox... and that kind of bad optimized browsers with a lot of functions i never will use; -OruxMaps for GPS outside sports-OruxMaps for GPS outside Sports.- Camera: only stock coolpad, Maucat cameras (Infocus, AOSP) or FV5. Many others (Coolpad Pro, A better Camera, lgcamera, Open Camera,...), in my case, produce remarkable overheating on the back. 7 hours SOT in two days of use. I'm happy with the battery performance. Guest 77chedu Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I wasn't expecting much, given what buggy was first batch of L roms on other phones running newer chipsets and I really don't think 3D performance is such an issue. Mainly because people that are in to heavy android gaming and that sort of stuff, may have long sold their phones and upgrade to something newerOf course it'd be better to get the most out of our hardware, but sadly this whole mobile business is not set to have a very extended lifespanAnd our phone, at least doesn't seem to have lots of hardware problems, while some other models with similar specs made by more "reliable" brands seem to have some issues with its screen for instance. And when it comes to software, they're pretty much on the exact same spot as we do
Guest jakethedooggg Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Off topic nonetheless. If I had money I'd buy a Nexus 5 (or a SGS6) all the way. Even if second hand... I'm tired of chinese phones to be honest, but at least my Coolpad is one of the best and I'm glad I bought it.
Guest Destiny133 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Well we just need to wait. If coolpad wont make L for our phone. Myb MMX will. I would love to see L for our phone and also i saw somewhere on chinnese forum that L could arrive somewhere in november. ;)
Guest xeros2 Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 I think it's the same rumour like with L for F1.MMX gets ROMs from Coolpad so I doubt that it will get official L, too.Sadly speaking, I think that development for F1/MMX has stopped. But I wish I was wrong.
Guest dhruvdave Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Micromax has released canvas nitro 3 with lollipop 5.0.2 with 4g .So there are very less chances of getting update
