Guest petaster Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 Hello !I have just painfully recovered from a bad rom installation, in which my y300-0151 canada Virgin/Bell was wrongfully flashed with a y300-100 version, causing it to lose 3G network connectivity...Now i have managed to find a working recovery, so now the phone is back to thinking it is a y300-0151 model, but is there a way to re-program the correct bands in it for 3G to start working again??I know it would probably work with the original firmware, but i cannot find it anywhere??or another possibility: my wife has the exact same phone, but not rooted and untouched... is there a sure shot way to copy the firmware from my wife's phone to mine??Thanks for ANY help!Pierre
Guest wbrambley Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 Try flashing this from TWRP (2.6.3.3 recommended)https://mega.nz/#!vBYnyJyL!Ih6kTyBU8M8liYYbLbUT8CsitTVMmchMYKoyvUOiZ2gIt will only update your baseband. Version b184 y300-151 (nz telecom, should hopefully be the same)Edit: After some reading it will get you back the 850 band but maybe not the 1900 band used in some areas.
Guest petaster Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) Thank you for your help, i did this and the phone still cannot see the virgin/bell network... but could you tell me how you found this file, i would try to find more information on the topic?I also found a few other official firmwares for the y300-0151 (but from other countries) and would like to try to recover them to see if it would change anything, but now every time i try to recover from the dload folder thru the vol up + vol down+ power method, the phones starts the decompression and halts at the beginning of phase 2/2 of the firmware update with a yellow triangle saying "Update failed" ... any idea what is stopping it from completing the update? Should i try to uninstall clockwork backup from the bootloader first? Thanks anyone Edited September 12, 2015 by petaster
Guest wbrambley Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 I pulled it from a Telecom NZ y300-151, 850 is the main 3g band in in Canada for Bell? You shouldn't need to remove custom recovery before flashing update.app.Only need stock recovery for OTA updates. What version was your last official firmware before you started modding it? This can be important as only the same or later version can be flashed AFAIK.
Guest petaster Posted September 16, 2015 Report Posted September 16, 2015 Thanks for your help again.i was wondering if you could detail for me the procedure of "pulling" this data from a working phone, since i have access to my wife's identical phone, which is still unrooted and very STOCK. If i knew this, i would try to transfer this info from one unit to the other. For now, i am still trying to fix the initial bootloader because i still cannot flash official firmware updates to it, it always fails at the start of the 2/2 (second part of the firmware update) and then displays the yellow triangle saying "update failed"in the meantime , i still am able to install roms from clockwork recovery, but still do not know How to reprogram the correct basebands to it (since it would be done thru the official firmware)Here is some info i could find on the bands used in canadaCanada2G capabilities GSM 850, GSM 19003G capabilities UMTS 850, UMTS 1700, UMTS 19004G capabilities LTE 1700, LTE 2600Thanks for reading me , have a good day.
Guest wbrambley Posted September 16, 2015 Report Posted September 16, 2015 I will have to remember that procedure, was a couple of years ago! Or of interest, (and possible other solution) the other official firmware you found for the 151 are there any comparable with Canada? Here is a quick list of countries and providers I found:www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
Guest wbrambley Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 (edited) Try this.Other phone NEEDS to be rooted!adb shell su dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/26.baseband.img Exit from adb shell(back to normal prompt)adb pull /sdcard/26.baseband.img c:\temp\baseband.img(this is complete partition image so should be 130mb)Grab the zip i posted before and extract to(for example) c:\151baseband\Swap the 26.baseband.img into this folder replacing the original fileRezip the contents of this folder, push to SD of your not working phone and flash.Done! (hopefully) If need be we can also use the same process for /cust partition If this works please post the completed zip file here as looking back in history other people have the same issue! Guest petaster Posted September 25, 2015 Report Posted September 25, 2015 Thanks a lot for taking the time, and for helping me.I finally got time to try it, and the pulling part worked fine. The image file was about 130 Mb like you predicted. I was not sure if the correct name was 26.baseband.img or 25.baseband.img as you had named it before. Turns out the system seemed to like 25 better... But, still the phone (y300-0151) does not see the networks that my wife's identical phone sees.So , as you mentioned in your last answer to me, i would be interested in trying to pull the /cust partition from the same phone, i hopes that in there would be the lost settings my phone needs to begin seeing the bell/virgin networks again. (i think they are GSM 850 and 1900 mhz, and their coverage map says LTE and HSPA+ is available in my area.)So could you just give me one more hint on the adb shell code lines i could use to pull this /cust partition and how to install it in my sick phone?I have also tried other "complete" backup solutions like romdump for system files, seemed to work for retreiving the partitions, but i have no way of "pushing" this back in the other phone.I read that simply re-installing my official huawei firmware would probably settle all my problems (thru DLOAD folder method) but my phone always returns an "update failed" message at the beginning of step 2/2, when i try to load the original y300-0151 bell canada firmware or any other 0151 official firmware... weirdly it works with any other official firmware for the y300-0100 and manages to complete the firmware update process... (which i imagine was THE noob mistake i made in the first place!) Very sorry for the long post, but it feels better to just talk about my nightmare. Any other suggestions for "complete system backup" method would be welcome, while my wife's phone is available...Thanks!Pierre
Guest wbrambley Posted September 25, 2015 Report Posted September 25, 2015 All good, the 26.baseband.img should be the same name as the original file replaced. If you can provide me with a link to your original 151 rom(or post it on mega or similar) I may have a solution.Believe me I know how frustrating it can be when you soft break your phone!

Guest petaster Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 Sorry for the long upload times! Everything installed fine, and thanks to the (full canada 151) you sent me, it was the closest it came to beiing "stock"... but, sadly still NO communication with any telephone network... Thank you for all the efforts you made to help me!I was about to throw it all away, when i decided to try the only thing i did not try , i used the "OEMINFO-Hack-Tool-v1.zip" , which i was very afraid of using, but said to myself: Why not! (otherwise, my phone was doomed) ...Before doing this,I also installed "ToolBox5iromV1.0.4.2.apk" in the phone to have quadruple backup of my IMEI, just to be on the safe side. (it helped me learn a bit of spanish in the process!)WELL, AFTER THIS, I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO RE-INSTALL the OFFICIAL FIRMWARE FROM HUAWEI Y300-0151 for my region and including the correct baseband , flashing it with DLOAD/update.app.....Y300-0151_Firmware_V100R001C557B196_English_Bell Canada_Android 4.1_EMUI 1.0.zipI was shaking to see it pass the 2/2 firmware update step... and upon reboot when i saw the phone's signal bars light-up, i was jumping like a frog!So i guess my noob mistake was to install a firmware update that was for other y300 models , like y300-0100 or y300-0000... i should have been more careful! Many thanks Mr WBRAMBLEY for all your help and time.Petaster CASE SOLVED
Guest wbrambley Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 That's great news! I've seen a number of older posts where other people have made the same mistake. There should be some kind of safety feature in the phone to stop this happening. In glad the problem is finally sorted.
Guest abedon Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Hi petaster and wbrambley, OMG. I did exactly the same thing to my Y300-0151 (Bell Canada) late 2014 and had tried countless ways trying to restore it for the past 12 months until I finally saw this post. @Petaster, trust me, I can totally understand the exact feeling that you had at the moment you saw the cellular signal bars lighted up from the empty :) Again, many thanks you guys for sharing the solution and other valuable info!
