I have the Hudl 2 still on KitKat rooted. If anyone needs anything from me I can help. 

I sent a LinkedIn request to Jorge Perez Ruiz who was an engineer on Hudl team. Hopefully an Android engineer may sympathise with us wanting to customise things, and with no ties to them they may release anonymously but this is wishful thinking.

I blocked any update things in Titanium Backup on my Hudl 2 so I haven't been shown ANY updates at all. Not sure if this would be helpful to others or not.
I can extract/download anything if required.
