Guest Simon Desser Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 this is is a phone thats being revealed (for the first time?) on the 8th, it isnt being launched on the 8th (contrary to the title of this thread). thats what i'm led to beleive anyways :D You're right Midnight  In my haste to present the "news" I've misread "Revealed" and typed "Released" (edited it now) Ah well, that i600's ugly as hell anyway :-& it looks like someone's bred a Samsung, with a Motorola and a Sony Z5 and come up with this little beauty ;)
Guest morpheus2702 Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 Bit off topic, but you are so right about the i600. I mean Samsungs are amongst the best looking clamshell phones you can buy... so how come they fob the Smartphone user off with that beast? :x
Guest deepak Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 oh my god lets have something coming out with bluetooth and i am done...today life sucks with two phone that i carry even though i like mio i still mostly landup in using t610 for the convinience of using bluetooth... i hope it is asus....
Guest sebset Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Paul, give us more infos ! a - Dell b - HP c - HTC d - Panasonic e - Psion f - Samsung g - Siemens h - Sharp i - SonyEricsson j - Toshiba k - Viewsonic ... Just give us the first letter of the name ;)
Guest midnight Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 you missed a few ;) sanyo, alphacell, Sagem, Casio, Audiovox, NEC, Mitsubishi, Kyocera, the list goes on, kinda pointless guessing at the moment methinks :D
Guest Simon Desser Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 According to PPCW.net who had a little competition to guess the answer, the mystery MS Smartphone to be announced tomorrow, is from:- Sierra Wireless :?:
Guest midnight Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 could the full keyboard on the Sierra phone possibly be the FastTap keypad by Intel?
Guest pisquee Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 I hope not, those little keys would so get in the way - you'd be trying to type in a phone number, and you'd end up with loads of letter in the way, or something.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Sierra Wireless? Ok maybe a big player in North America but globally? Come on! And a full keyboard - umm, isn't that excluded from MS's Smartphone specs? 'Radical innovation' my eye!
Guest deepak Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 hi guys & gals.... i am kind of finding this funny...i have checked everywhere on there site and have not found anything that arne at ppcw or for that matter suddenly everyone out here are reffering to....if there was something to be released by sierra wireless then it should have been somewhere on there news or where ever.... I am more keen on asus or spv2 which is releasing now on the 15th of this month for bluetooth headset compatability.....i want to play around with the device and talk at the same time.......asus where r u(clamshell....bluetooth....faster processor for photo contacts to run smoothand then i am kind of done with this mobile world and get back to robotics where my robot will dial, fix appointments and conference me with u all.....
Guest Simon Desser Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 hi guys & gals.... i am kind of finding this funny...i have checked everywhere on there site and have not found anything that arne at ppcw or for that matter suddenly everyone out here are reffering to...... :? Click the link in my post that says it's Sierra Wireless, it takes you to the story.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 And a full keyboard - umm, isn't that excluded from MS's Smartphone specs? Â If that's true...I'll be throwing a BIG "I told you so!" out there for all of the nay-sayers who say Microsoft has to stick to their "strict" manufacturing specs.
Guest deepak Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 simon i did go to that story on msmobile and have seen it a couple of times but the company website says nothing.....and for shouting out loud as many as they come why should there be no pictures of the proposed design atleast.....besides why should anyone be so keen on this one untill & unless it has bluetooth...but overall this has been a good trip as it has made me go again and again to all the forums finding an answer.... TODAY IF IS THE DATE....IS MICROSOFT or u guys showing us something here
Guest midnight Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 The MS specs mention nothing about adding to the standard buttons which are 0-9, * and # obviously, two softkeys, 4 way controller, action button, record, volume and the two call buttons. A qwerty keyboad is an addition, so has nothing to do with MS's specs for Smartphone. So long as it features all the standard buttons then everything is fine ;)
Guest Maverick Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 There it is !! http://www.voq.com/site/default.voq Its a really beauty !!
Guest atonks Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Yep. Looks like a really cool bit of kit. No indication of price etc, but as they call it a "professional" phone it's likely to cost a small fortune. Maybe, one day, we'll be able to win one in a MoDaCo comp...
Guest Maverick Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Unfortunately... Doesnt look like it has Bluetooth (and I was expecting WiFi !! :-s ). Found the following specs in the FAQ on the site: * 200 MHz Intel Xscale * 32MB RAM with 16MB available * 48MB of ROM with over 20MB available * Support for QWERTY text input using the Voq thumbpad * Voice Dialling Software * Java Virtual Machine supporting MIDP 2.0
Guest Myke Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 i cant wait to use the thumbpad, finally easy text entry. i hope the keys arent too small.
