Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Can anbody recommend a good media player for the smartphone. try Pocket MVP.
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 do these encoders have to encode to wmv? avi and mpeg are much better, they also work in better programs. The above program encodes to a variety of formats including AVI & MPEG. WMV files are small and work well with the SPV.
Guest solo Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 I convert a DVD to DIVX as follows: 1) Use SmartRipper (or equivalent) to 'rip' the VOB files off the DVD and onto your pc harddrive. 2) Use VirtualDub MPEG with ClintEastmans VirtualDub filter to convert the VOB files into a single DIVX avi file. Result - a DIVX avi that you can put straight on a SPV and play using PocketMVP - this will be rotated 90 degrees on the SPV screen thus making best use of spv screen space (ideal for widescreen DVDs) You can find Clint Eastmans VirtualDub filter here => http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=6358 VirtualDub MPEG can be download here (it is free) => http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/index.html SmartRipper can be downloaded here (free) => http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...smartripper.cfm Pocket MVP can be downloaded here (install onto SPV) => http://www.angelfire.com/alt/spv-soft/ You might also need an AC3 decompressor on your pc, and if so you can get one here (free) =>http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/index.html It might seem like a lot of messing around, but all you need to do is install all of the above software, place your DVD in the drive, run smartRipper, run VirtualDub MPEG (using ClintEastmans VirtualDub filter), copy the avi file over to your SPV and enjoy! Guest Pagemakers Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 This program alone does the whole thing in 1 step! www.artech365.com/mpeg4maker/index.htm It will go from DVD (the disk itself) or VOB directly to WMA/MPEG/AVI etc. A one stop process. You only need this program. You have full control over bit rates, sizes etc.
Guest solo Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Cool product, but it is not free! Can this product rotate the image through 90 degrees? Solo
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Don't hink so, but you can adjust the size. The files it generates work perfectly on my phone and pocket pc. No it's not free!

The rotate feature is very useful to me, especially as the SPV aspect ratio is not ideal for widescreen DVD's. Personally I think non widescreen DVDs look better on an SPV when rotated 90 degrees... Guest Pagemakers Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Well I don't know if it is my machine, but I am getting errors left, right and centre with that. morpheus - I installed it. Set Bit rate to 200, frame to 30, speed to 1, size 320*240, clicked convert in the advanced program and 70 minutes later the entire Iceage DVD was converted perfectly.

Solo I do it the same way sort of, except that I make a DivX first then convert that to SPV format. Didn't realise that you could do it straight from the VOB's to SPV format, I had that MPEG Virtual Dub too and never used it! :? Does this new program give any better results than the way that Solo said?
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 I don't know Solo's quality. The program I recommend gives results better than this which I made on the first program I mentioned: You can view a short clip of the Pocket PC file I made here -
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 try Pocket MVP. Tried that and it locks up my E200. Any other media player you can recommend?

The program I recommend gives results better than this which I made on the first program I mentioned: You can view a short clip of the Pocket PC file I made here - Tried the clip it looked really good on my PC (as in better than the normal SPV quality videos) but when I put it on my SPV it was very jerky and didn't play properly. Could this be because I don't have the E-200? The Quality was great though, just a shame that you can only watch it in media player.
Guest jambo Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 Hello all, new here! Probably posted before, but... Smartphone Video's ... not that there's anything worth downloading
Guest jambo Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 Me again  This looks good... PocketTV Classic Related Guide

I made that clip for my Pocket PC, although it plays well on my E200. Try this one I made especially for the SPV It runs perfectly on my E200 but you just have to reduce the frame rate etc when you encode the clip if you want it to play better on a less powerful device. The problem with Smartphone media player is the screen keeps turning off and you can't play full screen. I can't get Poctet TV or MVP to work properly on the E200. Is there another player available?
Guest mike-oh Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 It seems to me that we still aren't entirely there with this. The process we need. 1)insert dvd 2)open software 3)load some optimized settings so u don't spend days having to tweak it (or have them built in so it's even easier) 4)hit encode! 5)few mins later you have a smooth video rotated through 90 degrees. Any more steps than that and it becomes too laborious! Maybe someone could write some software specifically to do the job
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 This www.artech365.com/mpeg4maker/index.htm does all that, but it does not rotate the finished item
Guest mike-oh Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 Needs rotating really, the screen's small as it is, not being rotated kinda emphasises that fact.
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 Works fine in media player un-rotated. Can't use any other media player program cos they don't work on the e200
Guest solo Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 I don't know Solo's quality. The program I recommend gives results better than this which I made on the first program I mentioned: You can view a short clip of the Pocket PC file I made here - The quality is good enough - just search through these forums for some of the movie previews ClintEastman did using his VirtualDub filter. If I remeber correctly he had previews for T3 and The Matrix. The only difference to what he produced and what I produce is that I use VirtualDub MPEG which allows me to go straight from the vob to avi. When I get a spare moment I will post a short sample... Guest mike-oh Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Which is faster/better for watching *.avis on? pocket mvp or pocket tv?
Guest DMF Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 My pref is MVP - been making SPV films all day long with virtual dub :D quality is astounding really :) - I can get 2 full length films on one SD 256 megger
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Which is faster/better for watching *.avis on? pocket mvp or Pocket TV? I can't get Pocket TV to work on my e200. Should it?
Guest darren22 Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 I looked at converting some of my DVD's ages ago. I managed to get some success, eg some video with no audio etc.... However, yesterday I tried the following guide from SPV4U. :D Result first time, converted FARGO perfectly, smooth, and good audio quality. Fortunately I already had all the software on my PC from my previous attempts. Now very happy :) , workmates very impressed  Give it a try, from somebody who has struggled to achieve this for months. Darren
